"A voice behind me asked, "Where is God? Where is He? Where can He be now?" and a voice within me answered: "Where? Here He is -- He has been hanged here, on these gallows."

Elie Wiesel

What you can imagine, you can accomplish. It can be done. Yes, it's very likely that there are difficult obstacles standing in your way. Still, it can be done. Perhaps no one has ever done it before. Yet it most certainly can be done. Maybe no one believes you can do it. Even so, when you believe in it and commit to it, when you are ready to do whatever is necessary, it can indeed be done.

Go ahead and connect yourself solidly to whatever you truly treasure most in life. Consider the most positive, meaningful, fulfilling possibilities you can imagine, and begin to make them happen. The best of those possibilities are yours to fulfill. Think of the incredible value you can bring to the world by doing so.

Every moment of every day you are committed to something, you are working toward something. So imagine the very best of your possibilities, stay focused on them, and work your way steadily there. Know that it can be done, and spend your days making it happen.

-- Ralph Marston

The truth is that no profession of faith or lack of faith has anything to do with a man's morals.... Away with the bugbear that to be good we must be pious.

-- 1870, published by Lester F. Ward, founder of American sociology, from James A. Haught, ed., 2000 Years of Disbelief

When you come to the end of everything you know
And are faced with the darkness of the unknown,
Faith is knowing one of two things will happen.
Either there will be something solid for you to stand on,
Or you will be taught how to fly."

Peace within

If there is one thing we've come to understand over the last few months, it is this. The more tumultuous and uncertain the world around us becomes, the more important it is to nurture a real and abiding peace within our hearts. When there is trouble around you, it is more important than ever to have peace within.
Peace is strength at rest. It is high energy without high tension. Those who are strong enough to live in peace and at peace, are the strongest indeed.

Today, and every day, is an opportunity to put the power of peace to work in your life. Though there may be turmoil and confusion all around you, with a peaceful heart you can find the strength to make each and every moment more beautiful than the last.

Act from a perspective of genuine peacefulness, and you'll act with strength, confidence and effectiveness. Hold peace firmly in your heart. Nurture it and let it flow from you, and it will give power to whatever you undertake.

Find your own genuine inner peace and with the strength of that peace you can truly change your world.

-- Ralph Marston

A Jesuit Weekly

In a pluralistic society a fundamental assumption of public policy is the recognition that everything immoral need not be declared illegal. The public morality that is expressed in law reflects a consensus derived from public debate.... Social realities as well as religious principles must be taken into account in judging the wisdom of any legislation. Citizens who come to different conclusions are not necessarily immoral or unChristian. The tendency to so brand one's political opponents suggests a kind of moral fascism.

Not only should I say thank you for posting but also let you know that I really needed that today.:D

Be suspicious of substitutes.

When something important is missing in our lives our natural tendency
is to scramble around until we find something, anything, in an attempt
to fill the gap. We may use food, alcohol, money, sex-anything.
That's how addictions begin: we don't know how to get what we need,
so we reach for something else. What we are often reaching for in these
"switched addictions" are love and acceptance. Addictions do not
generate love but only the illusion of love.

Substitutes make us sick. Even if they're not bad in themselves, we
abuse them. We forget they're alternatives and stopgaps rather than the
real thing.

Sometimes we don't know what our real needs are. And sometimes we
do know, but we're afraid to take the risks involved in meeting them. In
either case, we will continue to be slaves to our addictions or
substitutions until we recognize them for what they are and learn to
satisfy our needs in healthy ways.
