Tomorrow, my family will be on the way to the airport for our first ever Disneyland trip. I originally booked this trip in June 2019, for a March 2020 vacation date. My son was 4 years old and just starting preschool. I was addicted to DISboard, learning everything I could about the parks, restaurants, hotels, SWGE, and most importantly—boarding groups!! Remember those?
Then the news started talking about this weird new virus, which I ignored. But then the virus got worse, and worse, and on March 14, Disneyland closed, two weeks before we were supposed to leave. I rebooked for June. No dice. Then August. Nope. Then November. Lol. Then one night, DIS told me that Bob Igor was quitting Newsom’s economic taskforce, or whatever it was. Seeing the writing on the wall, I called Disney THAT NIGHT and got our non refundable tickets fully refunded. I put Disneyland out of my mind.
But now here we are. Three years later. The boy is 7 now, and about to be a second grader. He doesn’t nap anymore, walks on his own, and can carry his own water bottle
Boarding groups are long gone, and Avengers Campus is open. We’re splurging with a stay at the Disneyland hotel. And I’ve been back on DIS, getting my updates and trip tips, and photos and camaraderie.
The reality is, we live too far away and it’s too expensive for Disneyland to be a regular thing for us, but it is clear that the Disney community is a special place. And as I pack our last few items this evening, I just wanted to say thanks for your help, and for letting me be a part of it during these super wild times.
