OK...say this sentence: (to yourself or outloud)

"The team came in fifth place."

Now answer this question......Di you pronounce the F? Did you say fif-th or fith?

I find I drop the F and just say fith. Curious. My MIL would say Fif and drop the th. (She pronounce th as an F)

No, I don't hear many people saying "cam" for the word calm. I do think many people say fith, though.

I'm Southern, and definitely have a Southern accent, but I say "fifth". Maybe it's because I've lived away from the South so long. But I really think I talked that way when I lived there.

Apparently I speak oddly because I pronounce the G in "hanger" very 'harshly.' I also pronounce the TH in "Clothes." Ah well. I've been training myself to say "sore-ry" for "sorry" (like a Canadian would), just to be a bit more different like that.
