Last Thursday, our cruise ship stopped in St. Thomas. We took a cab to Redhook, sailed and snorkeled, returning to Redhook for the ride back to Charlotte Amalie. In the rush of the moment, and anxious to pick up a few gifts prior to getting back on the ship, I left my favorite Eddie Bauer tote bag with my towels, some clothing and my perscription sun glasses in the safari type cab. By the time I realized it, the cab was long gone. I said a guick prayer, asking for help to find my bag and I set out. I must have approached 20 cabbies who did not know "George" or the truck that we rode in. Finally, at 4:40 pm, one cabbie knew exactly who he was. He was George, number 1078! He gave me a central number to call and they immediately patched my through to George who was way on the other side of Donkey Hill in 5 o'clock traffic. He looked in the back of the truck for my bag and there it was. He told me that he would return it as soon as possible. The guards at the gate found some other cabbies who called him on his cell phone while he was en route. He arrived at 5:20 pm with my bag. I gave him the rest of my money, which was only $10. I would have given him more if I had it. He told me that I didn't have to give him anything. It goes to show that there are really nice people in the world, in even tourist spots!!
If you ever need a cabbie in St. Thomas, remember George, 1078. You know that you will get a really nice man who is also very honest and goes the extra mile when he doesn't have to.

What a nice story! Maybe we'll get lucky and get George in Aug.:D What beach did you go to, and did you like it? I asume since you went to RedHook that you went over to St. John for the day. That is our plan too I think.:D

I had George, 1077, when I was there last

Oh boy - I'm DISing without my contacts in (blind as a bat), and I thought the thread was titled "Super CABBAGE in St. Thomas".

I'll be in St. Thomas on June 2nd and I'll definitely look up George 1078. Thanks for the tip! Glad you got your bag back also. :D

We sailed on the Winifred and had a great time. Check out Captain Sharon's website www.sailwinifred.com. We went to St. John, snorkeled and swam ashore to Caneel Bay.

Wow that looks nice! Was is really expensive? We are going on the Disney Magic and they do not allow children age 4 on the tours to snorkle. This might be a very nice option for us! Thanks for the web site.

We paid $100 pp for a 6 hour tour including lunch. Captain Sharon is very nice as is her first mate Tom.
