A stupid question about glasses...

:confused3 Are there any rides that you routinely take off your glasses? My DH and I both wear them and are curious if we need to bring our glass cases with us to the parks. :smooth: Sorry such a silly question, thanks for all advice!!

I don't wear glasses, but if you're riding Rock N Rollercoaster, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain ("Hold on to yer hats 'n glasses, folks"), possibly Kali River Rapids, and maybe even Dinosaur you'll most likely want to remove them. These are fast/shaky rides. You don't want them to fall off now, right? :) Never do the CMs actually make you take them off though...it's entirely up to the guest.

I wear glasses all the time and can't see a blasted thing without them.

There are no rides that I take my glasses off for, but I haven't been on Kali River Rapids yet. However, all the roller coasters and other rides are fine with my glasses on.

I have wire frames, so they hold on to my face pretty well.

I even go swimming with my glasses on, though I don't go under water with them.

Nothing at WDW should require you to remove your glasses.... Once at IOA on HULK and everytime in Las Vegas on Scream I was asked to remove my glasses.

The first time I rode RocknRollercoast I took my glasses off and was a bit disappointed because I couldn't clearly see all the neon signs. On the next trip I decided to wear my glasses and they were fine! :3dglasses They didn't fall off (yay for centrifugal force! lol), and I was able to see everything clearly. Well, about as clearly as you can while going 60mph. :teeth:

Never felt the need to remove them for any other ride at WDW. :smooth:

I'll tell you my story - I wear prescription sunglasses all day at WDW, and often wear them as a headband on top on my head while I'm in a show. I had them on inside the Figment ride, and that part where there is a strong burst of air sent my glasses right off my head and onto the floor of the ride vehicle!!!!

The only thing at WDW that I’ve taken them off for is Rock n’ Roller Coaster. Then I couldn’t see anything but blurs and came off slightly ill feeling. As a result, I haven’t had the desire to ride it again. I usually carry a strap for them in my pocket that I put on before anything that goes upside down but I always seem for forget it when I go to MGM. I have never removed them for Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Kali River Rapids or Splash Mountain.

Hint: on Rock 'n Roller, after the restraint comes over your shoulders, you can hug it and use 1 hand to hold your glasses in place if you are nervous. I am, too. I just use my right index finger to hold my glasses so I can still see everything. The ride isn't very long, but you do go upside down several times, so you will feel better if you secure your glasses that way.

The first time my DS (9 at the time) rode RNR he was so preoccupied with holding his glasses on his face that he was a nervous wreck and did not enjoy it at all (now whether they actually would have come off I don't know, he does tend to be kind of a worry wart :confused3 ). The last time we went, I carried his glasses case in my purse and he took them off for any "turbulent" rides and he was much happier (he loved RNR this time  )... of course on the 3d day of our trip, he broke his glasses walking across the Pop food court... go figure! :rolleyes1

I actually bought those sun darkening prescription glasses because of our disney trips! I hated always switching back and forth from my regular glasses to my sunglasses- some of the rides are DARK!

:3dglasses :smooth: :cool1: :hippie:

I wear my glasses on all the rides at WDW and have never had a problem with them falling off or almost falling off. If you wanted to be really safe, you could always put one of those sports straps on them.

The only place I find I have to take my glasses off would be the water parks. I find they get so spotty that there is no point keeping them on.

My old glasses didn't sit tight so I would always take them off for roller coasters. I hated it because I couldn't see anything. We also went to Universal and rode the Mummy. I had to see it, so I would hold the glasses in a way I could hold them tightly, but hold one half up to one eye. I just knew I would be riding some ride and they would snap a picture of me in all my dorkiness.
We just got back and I have new snugger fitting glasses. I didn't take them off for anything. The only time I regretted it was on RnR. We were in the front seat. I didn't think about it until it was too late to try to take them off safely. We were catching all the wind right on the face. I could feel them lifting ever so slightly. I ended up trying to hold one hand up over the middle of them, but when we went into a turn it jerked my hand away and I ended the ride with both hands over my glasses, leaving little peep holes to spy out of.
Next year I am going to bring a strap and wear it only on the wilder rides.

I don't remove my glasses for anything, even rides like RnR---I'd hate to think how much I'd miss if I did! No problems yet, but I do make sure they're secure before the ride begins. Not just at Disney either--I've worn glasses on the major rollercoasters at Magic Mountain as well with no incidents. :)

I wore my glasses on everything and had no problems at all. This included Tot, RnRC, SM, Kali, etc....I have both my regular glasses and a prescription sunglass pair, and niether came close to falling off on any ride.

I even wore the goggles over my frames at Shark Reef (TL).

I've worn my regular glasses on Space Mountain and Dinosaur and RnR without any problems. If your glasses fit right, they're fine. If they leave your nose when you bend over and duck your head, then I'd secure them with a strap.

When I used to wear glasses I would allways have them attached to a glasses string around my neck. That way if there was anything that would knock them off, I still had them with me.

As a side note, I haven't ridden anything at DW that I lost my glasses on. They will just get VERY wet on Kali.
