So I'm looking in to buying an iPod (I'm just trying to get over the $200 price tag for the Nano). Anyhow, I want to upload a few CD's to the iPod. I know there is a fee per song through iTunes, but my question is: is there a fee to upload a CD to the iPod? How do I upload my CD to the iPod? Thanks!

nope...any cds you own you can upload onto your ipod. there is software that will come with. its very easy to do. we have mostly our cds on our ipod, although we do have maybe a dozen itunes songs

Yep--easy to do. Just load your own CD in the CD drawer, have your ipod hooked up and the software will prompt you through.

Thank you - seems very easy!! :) That makes the iPod even more appealing.

You may even want to consider the little larger ipod over the Nano, yes it is more expensive but it does do more, not only that but the Nano is very tiny, almost reminds me of an oversized credit card!! But if you do go with the Nano make sure you get a case for it, the black one especially scratches easily, as for using any of the ipods as others have said the software that comes with them is very easy to understand. I ordered mine through www.igive.com so my charity would get a percentage of the purchase price (no cost to me) and they have hundrends of catalogs under the igive site, Apple being one of them, also if you order it online they will engrave it free, which many have done with their names and phone numbers.........stupid me didn't even think of the phone number and just had my name put on it :scratchin Nobody better not accuse me of not really being blonde! Have fun with your ipod I wonder now how I lived with out them!

The software that the ipod uses is called itunes and it is very easy to use.
If you have your computer on the internet when you are downloading the music from your CD, the software will look up the music on the internet in a database. If it can find the CD in the database (which it usually can), it will also load things like the title, the artist, the composer, the type of music into itunes.

What you'd be doing is uploading your CD into the Itunes software and then transferring songs to the Ipod. You may upload an entire CD or just certain songs if you wish. You'll have the Itunes software on your computer (the download is free) and you won't be charged for uploading from CDs or other sources on your computer. You'll be charged if you choose to purchase songs from the Itunes store.

Thanks, everybody! :)

Over 10,000 posts??? How the heck do you do that? How long have you been here?

I would also consider bumping up to one of the other Ipods besides the nano. For not much more money you get whole lot more space and stuff.

I've been with the DIS since nearly day 1. The scary part is that there are lots of DISers with more posts than me (at least two have 40,000+ posts).

You know..I had SUCH difficulty with iTunes! I wanted to throw my new shuffle out the window 2 hours into the "figuring out how to use iTunes process".

IMO - the software that came with my Creative Labs mp3 Player (the Creative Zen Touch) was MUCH more user friendly! But that's JMO.

I'm always in the minority here on iPods. Try and figure out realistically how many songs you plan on putting on it. Are you ever going to put 5,000 or 10,000 songs on it? I doubt it. You're better off getting something the right size and using the money you save to get a good set of headphones. Then you can actually enjoy the music as the headphones/earbuds that come with all mp3 players are junk. There are many very good/cheaper players than iPods. iPods are an average player backed by a fantastic marketing department.
