A Splash Of Wonder & A Dash Of Christmas Cheer: A Trip Report With Pictures

Great Start!

We saw the Holiday Illuminations in 04 and the ending made me ball like a little girl ( even though I am a virile manly man).

It just struck me how the ideal of a world where we live in peace and beauty lived in this fnatasy world while we were at war and thousands of people all over the world were at that moment plotting how to kill each other.

(I had been sampling the liquid offerings at Germany for a bit before the show)

Anyway, looking forward to hearing about your time on the Wonder!

Welcome OhMari & Fairy Tale Bride  . Glad to have you along. FTB I wanted to display all my antannae toppers & couldn't figure out another way to do it so I am glad you like my bowl o' toppers.
It is so exciting to know that people are actually reading this.

FatherForce.....I am a big old sap head & that ending really did me in this year probably because this trip had been so long in the making & I was finally there with people that I love. I wish we could always live like the song says...."let me walk with my brother in perfect harmony". If the World could be like that it would be a much better place. I always get misty at Disney because I am sentimental but also because things always seem so perfect while you are there....it is such a wonderful escape from the real world & all the realities that confront us every day.

Ok, I am off to write the next installment......next up we will be on the ship. :sail:

My DH & I woke up early because we were excited about getting onboard the Wonder today. He went to exercise while I just laid in bed like a lazy slug basking in the glory of being at Walt Disney World on vacation. After he came back, we found out that the parental units were up, so we all got ready & went to get breakfast at the Boardwalk bakery…pastries, milk etc all around eaten in the splendor of the beautiful Boardwalk surroundings. Ahhhhhhhh, now we were really in vacation mode. We weren’t being picked up by Disney Cruise Line until 12:30, so DMom & DDad went back to the room to rest a bit while DH & I decided to walk around & go see the Christmas decorations at the Yacht & Beach Club. We had a wonderful stroll & saw such pretty things. This is one of my favorite pictures taken that morning in the Beach Club lobby….those chairs are just too cool.
100_2065.jpg

This is a close up of the train area in the Yacht Club……Disney touches everywhere. I just love Christmas at Walt Disney World. It’s like an even more special Wonderland than normal with so many special touches & details. It is beautiful!!!!
100_2061.jpg

This sign at the Boardwalk says it all…it was the last picture after our walk & we would have a very Magical Day ahead of us.
100_2058.jpg

Here’s the whole famdamily hanging out in the Bellevue Lounge at the Boardwalk while waiting for DCL to pick us up.
100_2076.jpg

We were all so excited. We had put on our scopolamine patches to avoid motion sickness & Dad was feeling a bit weird from his. Looking back I think I would skip this next time, even though we felt some waves it never made me sick. My parents were glad for theirs because the motion of the boat seemed to bother both of them more. It made me as dry as the Sahara desert & I didn’t like that at all!!

We were finally gathered up by a very nice DCL representative & before we knew it we were on a bus to Port Canaveral.
100_2090.jpg

They showed a really cute video about the ship & all there was to do & I enjoyed watching the characters antics, but what self-respecting Disney traveler hasn’t already done all their research & already made an itinerary of what to do????? I mean really!! :lmao:

So after about an hour, we pulled over that bridge & could see the Disney Wonder in all her glory waiting for us to come aboard. It really is such a breathtaking sight to see.
100_2088.jpg

We checked in uneventfully. Our cast member was great & gave my Mom a really hard time for having a book in her carry on bag telling her there was no time for reading on a Disney cruise that there would be too many things to do & too much fun to have. She got a real kick out of that. Before long we made our way under the big yellow ears & were on our way to the ship—photographed & announced ta da we are FINALLY on the cruise. I wanted to stop & bask in the beauty of the atrium but by now it was a little after 2pm & we were all starved so we headed to Beach Blanket Bingo for lunch. It was a nice buffet & I remember the turkey & shrimp being especially good, but I was more excited to go exploring & get in cruise mode. We went to find our state rooms on Deck 7 Aft. We had stateroom 7624-category 7 with a navigator’s verandah.
100_2103.jpg

DMom & DDad had 7629 down the hall-category 11. I had a little surprise for my hubby-a champagne Bon Voyage package waiting for us since he had so patiently put up with me obsessively planning for 11 months.
100_2106.jpg

The only bummer was they delivered the wrong champagne & I called guest services but it was about time for the drill so they would fix it later-which they did & brought us sparkling cider…finally after another call 3rd time was the charm & we got the bottle of Fairy Tale Cuvee I had ordered. :confused3 We enjoyed a few of the sweet snacks before the mandatory drill & they were yummy. Here is the obligatory shot with the life jackets on.
100_2115.jpg

Our muster station was in Animators Palate & that was kind of weird. It was hard to hear & seemed like mass chaos to me, but hopefully it would all work in the event of a real emergency.

“Hurry up, hurry up, hurry up……it’s time for the Sail Away Party” said the OCD trip planner to the rest of her crew. We headed up to Deck 10 & got a good spot on the rail to watch the party. So fun to dance & sing along & wait for us to set sail.
100_2121.jpg

That Crew Staff is amazing they have enough energy to power a small town….more on them later. It is amazing to hear that beautiful horn play When You Wish Upon A Star as the ship pulls out to sea.:sail: That is a WOW moment. We had a few pieces of business to take care of next. Went to the Vista Spa for my Mom to book a massage & me to get an appointment to have a blow dry before dinner at Palo. I had already booked the Exotic Rasul for DH & me for the next day on-line. I had only been able to get 2 tables of 2 for Palo for the night we wanted so I also put in a call to them to see if we could get a table for 4. Back to our rooms & our luggage was there & we met our stateroom hostess Christina. I decorated our doors….I was trying to be sneaky & do Mom & Dad’s door as a surprise, but darn it before I finished she opened up the door. I think they looked pretty good. Here is our door.
100_2138.jpg

There weren’t a lot of doors done & Christina was thrilled. She said she hardly ever had guests decorate. It sure made it easy to find our room. We loved the location on deck 7 aft. We were close to the hidden deck & the back stairs to Beach Blanket Bingo & the 24 hour beverage station.

We finally had time to relax a bit because we had decided not to go the show before dinner. It was Mike Super the magician & we thought a bit of a rest would be better. We drank a glass of champagne, unpacked & began to relax. We got ready for dinner at Parrot Cay & then headed to the atrium to watch the Christmas tree lighting ceremony. The Christmas decorations were beautiful. Here we are in front of the tree.
100_2145.jpg

It was really cute with all the characters, but wow does that atrium get packed. Those darn characters move so much that it is hard to get a good picture, but here is my feeble attempt. It was really cool when all the tree lights came on & everyone applauded.
100_2158.jpg

We relaxed a bit in the Promenade lounge before dinner. Michael from the Crew staff was standing around & he engaged us in conversation. We chatted with him for quite awhile. I recognized him right away from the Sail Away Party….he was the head dude with the mic & had so much energy. I asked him about his job & he said the funniest thing when I asked him how he stayed excited & upbeat all the time….”sugar & caffeine are my friends.” It was great to talk to him & find out about his life aboard the Wonder.
We headed to our dinner. We had the 2nd seating & that worked out great for us. We were at table 72 which turned out to be a table for 4 so we didn’t have any tablemates. We enjoyed each other’s company & laughed a lot. We had Agus from Indonesia & Sabrina from Argentina as our server team. Parrot Cay is so colorful & bright. We had a really good meal here & enjoyed getting to know our servers a bit. The ship was moving quite a bit getting out to sea, but we forgot about it as dinner went along. I couldn’t finish my grouper (which was delicious, but I was stuffed) so Agus fed me one last bite & embarrassed the heck out of me. He really is a mess & we really enjoyed him. Here is a picture of the lemon meringue pie that DH & DMom chose for dessert.
100_2177.jpg

Mom & Dad decided to call it a night after strolling around Deck 9 & locating the beverage station so Dad could get his morning coffee. We went on down to Route 66 to Wave Bands in search of Match Your Mate, but it turned out that Mike Super had agreed to do a set for adults only. He was really good & did some really cool illusions & was pretty funny too. I was sad that we had decided not to attend the big show. After the show, it was time for 70’s night. The Crew Staff were all decked out in their 70’s finest (afro wigs, polyester clothes etc) so we decided to stay & have some fun. We danced for a bit & the next thing I know my husband was drug off by afro guy to reappear later as the Indian from the Village people. They had recruited several guys to do the YMCA. It was hilarious & I loved seeing my hubby up there doing his little dance. Here is a picture of my Macho Macho Man.
100_2191.jpg

We had a great time, even though there weren’t that many people. That Crew Staff is amazing in getting people involved. Learned the hustle & just had a good old time. Here I am with my favorite Uncle Walt....
100_2193.jpg

When we got back to the room, our first friend was waiting for us.....
100_2188-1.jpg

We went to bed, two very tired but happy cruisers.

In honor of our first day on the Wonder……..here is Captain Potato Head.
100_2940.jpg

Next up……..Day 3 Nassau but we didn’t even get off the boat but instead had an Exotic Rasul Kinda Day.

Thanks so much for the trip report! Love the pictures! We are surprising the kids at Christmas with a four day cruise in April! Can't wait to tell them! I'll be more excited than them! Can't wait for more..

Melanie- So good to finally see you. You look great. You are getting me super excited for my Magic cruise.  :woohoo: Too bad I gotta wait till next September. It looks like you had a fantastic time. :thumbsup2

Oh wow!! You are getting me so pumped for our cruise! :hyper: I can't stand it any longer! :rotfl2:

I also see you have booked a 7-night for next year! :woohoo: I am planning on booking a 7-night in the next few months! I would love to go in December to enjoy all the amazing and beautiful decorations! It looks so Wonder-ful!

The room looks great too! I was also looking at booking a Navigator’s verandah, but for the first cruise on the Wonder we have gone with a GTY CAT 12. We are trying to save money where we can and I am very curious to see what room we get! Maybe we will luck out and get better than a CAT 12! I'm keeping my fingers crossed! :teeth:

I am also loving all of your food pictures you have posted over on the "Disney Dining Board!" All of it looks so yummy! :bitelip:

Such a wonderful report! I've never been interested in cruising but after seeing your lovely pictures and hearing how much fun you're all having, I might have to reconsider!!

That Bon Voyage package looks yummy. I might have to consider purchasing that! Would you recommend it?

Enjoying your report, keep it going! :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

Great report and pics!!

The Beach Club villas looked nice. And I love the pic of you all waiting on the DCL bus. You look REALLY happy. And why wouldn't you be?

We want to do a Disney cruise soon. We've heard nothing but GREAT things from Disney fanatics and non-Disney fanatics. I'm looking forward to your report.

Thanks for taking us along!

NM :sunny:

Awesome and can't wait for more.

I am the planner and do the EXACT same thing you do. Drive my partner absolutely crazy for the next 11 months. We are going in October and I am already planning!!!

Thanks so much for the positive replies.

Miscoehill....you will have a blast. That is a hard secret to keep.

Becky so good to see a familiar person reading along. We had such a good time, but boy did I ever eat too much. Too bad you are going in Sept....we booked a 7 night Magic cruise for Oct, we could have had our own little meet.

FTB...I love that I am getting you excited for your cruise. It is such a great experience & you will love it. We did go ahead & book another trip...if you book while on-board you save 10% & get an onboard credit so you might want to wait until you sail to save some money. I am glad you like my food pics too.....the food was marvelous on the ship.

Katy..I am glad my report is making you consider a cruise. DCL is great & I don't think we have ever had so much fun!!

disndat....welcome.

Jennifer48 the bon voyage package was very nice. I might consider just ordering the champagne if I had it to do over again..the treats were good but there is so much food at meals that after our initial nibbles the food was mostly thrown out.

Nicolemarie...thanks for reading. We were really excited waiting for the bus to pick us up glad that our enthusiasm showed in the pic.

bgsnmky.....glad to have a fellow OCD planner along. I just can't help myself. I plan & plan & plan. This trip went pretty much as planned except a few things we couldn't fit in because we simply did not have enough time--we missed the Candlelight processional & did not make it to a night spot like I had planned after MGM because honestly we were too tired.

Thanks again for coming along with me.

I had a bad day at work today & it was nice to hop on here & see people enjoying my report.

I hope to have another day up soon...but it will probably be Friday or Saturday. Bear with me....I promise to keep on going as long as you all are enjoying it. Too many pics??????? I love reports with pics so that is why I am putting so many.

Really enjoying your report! We are doing a 3 day on the Wonder this time next year, with a stay at OKW beforehand, so I'm very interested in all your details ::yes::

How did your parents like their Cat 11? My first cruise on the Wonder was in a deck 7 aft Cat 11 (solo) and I loved it and the location. I actually prefer the layout of the inside staterooms, with the bed in the 'back'. Ok, ok, I love having a verandah too.....I guess I'd really be happy ANYWHERE on a DCL ship :thumbsup2

Welcome along Tinkerbell.

Ibouncetoo--I love your screen name. My parents like the category 11 room fine as you really aren't in your room that much. We liked having a verandah & have booked a category 6 for our next cruise because we thought on a 7 day we would have more time to spend out there & would like to have a full verandah to be able to sit & watch the ocean go by. We enjoyed OKW...more on that later.

I am working on Day 3 & may get it posted tonight.

I love this TR! I just got all update. The boardwalk looks beautiful and it sounds like you made the right choice to do EPCOT, otherwise known as adultland first! Can't wait to hear about more of your adventures!

Glad you like it serendipity. I am really enjoying writing this report & reliving all our great times.
I love the Boardwalk & it is even more beautiful at Christmas. It is a great place to stay & you are right I made the right choice with EPCOT because DDad really seemed to enjoy it & loved Test Track & the weenie version of Mission Space.

I am uploading pics right now so hopefully a new chapter is on it's way.

After our late night, we slept in a bit until about 8:45. We had breakfast at Beach Blanket Bingo. The breakfast buffet was really good with a lot of yummy things to pick from….mini-Mickey waffles, grilled tomatoes, jelly doughnuts. Yummo!! We ate outside looking out at Nassau. We had decided a long time ago in my planning phase that we would just stay on the ship on Nassau day. We had all been to Nassau before (except DDad) & didn’t really feel the need to get off & explore when we had such a great ship with lots of fun things to do. Here’s a pic of Atlantis resort to prove we really were in Nassau Bahamas….
100_2207-1.jpg

Our appointment at the Vista Spa was at 9:30 for the Exotic Rasul treatment & my Mom had made a massage appointment.
Inside the spa.
100_2200.jpg

We met up & headed for the spa together. They make you fill out a questionnaire before your treatment which made me wonder, do they really pay attention to these or is this just a formality. I am a nurse after all & couldn’t help wondering. We filled them out & then were called for our treatment. We were taken to the changing rooms & given robes & plastic shoes. Then we were escorted to our chamber........muahhhhhhhhh!!!! Our spa lady showed us the basket of goodies & what order to use them in & explained the chamber to us-there are 3 separate areas-a small shower off to the left, a main chamber with a tile bench where they leave all the stuff & then the steam chamber which really does get HOT HOT HOT & which has a sink thing in it that reminded me so much of the sink in the bathroom of Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets!!!! Then she left, telling us she would knock 10 minutes before our time was up to give us fair warning. We kind of got the giggles a bit, but it wasn’t long before we were enjoying our experience. Suffice it to say that the lotions, potions, exfolliants & mud were all very nice & soothing & it was a lovely experience. Our skin felt baby soft & we were truly relaxed when we left---the stress had just magically melted away (probably because that steam room was so hot it about melted your skin off…thank heavens for those buttons that started up the cold water spritz). I highly recommend this experience for couples looking for a fun spa treatment. We went to the Rainforest Room after & enjoyed relaxing in there on the warm stone recliners with cold water to drink.
Here’s the Rainforest Room.
100_2201.jpg

It was a wonderful experience all around & I plan to book it again on our next cruise.
My Mom really enjoyed her massage as well. After all that relaxing, we went back to our room & well you figure it out for yourself……..

We decided it was time for some pool time. Here’s my favorite pool pic….the water play area at the Mickey pool.
100_2197.jpg

We went up to the Quiet Cove Pool. DMom & DDad were already there. All 4 of us spent some time in the hot tub & then the pool. By now after all the relaxing we had done all day, we had really worked up an appetite. We all wanted different things for lunch, so we all went to our respect places & got what we wanted. I had salad & fruit from Goofy’s Galley & pizza from Pinocchio’s. We relaxed a bit more with a drink of the day which was a Planters Punch which we took up on Deck 10 & enjoyed sitting there looking out over Nassau.
100_2212.jpg

We decided we had been in the sun enough so next DH, DMom & I went to the art auction. This was very confusing to me...I was confused if anything really sold, but I do know that the free cosmos we got for attending were good. There was some neat Disney art & some cool other stuff like Peter Max, Thomas Kincaids etc. It was all a bit steep in price for us, but it was kind of a different experience so I am glad we went.
Here are a few ship pics that I really like.
The statue of Ariel in the lobby.
100_2220.jpg

On Deck 10…..I like the perspective of this shot.
100_2214.jpg

We went back to the room to relax. Here’s DH on the navigators verandah in case you would like to see what it looks like.
100_2208.jpg

At this point we were worn out & decided to take a nap. Not sure what the parents did, but thank goodness we set a wake up call with Mickey or we probably would have slept through the show. Tonight was Hercules: the Musecal. It was really good. Wow, some of those people have great voices especially the head Muse. Pain & Panic were the highlights of the show with their silly, hyper selves. They were so funny. It was really quite entertaining & even non-Disney Dad seemed to enjoy it.
Here are the Muses….sorry it's a bit blurry.
100_2229.jpg

Next up I got to do something I had been looking forward to since I read Zweilhund’s cruise trip report—Geeks on a Boat (really if you haven’t read it go find it & read it because it is hilarious). We went to Diversions & I got a flight of martini’s to taste. The waitress told me a bit about martini’s (really anything served in a martini glass can be considered a martini). The flight consisted of 5 small drinks-a classic gin martini, an apple black martini, a raspberry martini, a 53coco Cadillac martini & a coffee cognac ocean martini. DH & I shared them. We liked them all except the classic which just tasted like rubbing alcohol with an olive to me. Here’s a pic of the flight.
100_2243.jpg

It was great fun trying some new drinks & I like the atmosphere in Diversions.
Time for dinner…..tonight we dined in Triton’s. What a beautiful restaurant. There is a gorgeous mural done in small mosaic tiles of King Triton & Ariel all across the back of the room.
100_2251.jpg

The lighting is greens & blues. It is a very calming & relaxing atmosphere. Dinner was marvelous. I had a shrimp medley appetizer, the crusted halibut entrée & Grand Mariner soufflé for dessert. Wow it was so good. Tonight we talked with Agus about accents. Now being from the South we have those good old Southern accents--& being from East Tennessee we have a special twang….which my Mom told Agus was an East Tennessee Whang. It was hilarious listening to him trying to say Whang….and he continued to remember this & say it to us later. We told him we would be dining at Palo the next evening & that we would miss him & he pouted a little bit. Sabrina wasn’t feeling well this night, so we had a different assistant server & she was quite chatty. We enjoyed talking to her.
Here’s the Grand Mariner soufflé from Triton’s.
100_2249.jpg

We all went to wavebands after dinner to watch Match Your Mate. They picked 3 couples…one that had just been together a short time, one that had been married several years & one that had been married I think 35 years. It was like the newlywed game & it was hilarious..some of the questions & answers were priceless. An example, which car most accurately describes your husband after he gets out of the shower in the morning? A stretch limo, a wide load dump truck or a pink Volkswagen beetle with the air out of it tires. Michael from the Crew Staff, that I have already told you about, was the host & he did a great job. The young couple-the girl was like air head blonde of the century-was so funny that we almost wondered if they were a plant, but they weren’t. The couple that had been married for 35 years won!! After that the parental units (who were way glad we were a few minutes late so they didn’t get picked) left to retire for the evening & we decided to stay for 80’s night. I mean we were both teens in the 80’s so who could resist. The dancers from the shows came down & did a couple of dance numbers… one from Footloose & then a Michael Jackson medley & they were really good. We were out dancing when one of the crew staff came up & put a glow necklace around my neck & said you get to help us out later & I knew from the previous night what that meant. I got to HELP out during the battle of the bands…guys vs. girls. The guys were Bon Jovi & the girls were the Go Go’s. We had to put these towel get ups on & I was given a guitar & the 5 of us went up there to lip synch to “We Got the Beat”. Good lord, I felt ridiculous & here’s a picture to prove it-that me in the red towel.
100_2255.jpg

The crowd had to cheer for the winner & the girls won. Woo hoo!!!! I tell you, those Crew really believe in getting your involved. We stayed for a while longer & then decided to head up to Deck 9/10 for a stroll before bed.
Here’s a pic that reminds me of us on the cruise..dancing fools.
100_2240.jpg

Here's the friend that greeted us at bedtime at 1:30am.
100_2257.jpg

It was another great day.

Here’s Mary Poppins Potato for your amusement.
100_2942-1.jpg

Next up………Castaway Cay (another day in paradise)
