Talking to Katie...

From this point, we wandered over to Scuttle's Landing (now no longer there for the most part) to meet up with Pop Pop and Michael and got some popcorn and a yummy cream cheese pretzel. Um, WHY has it taken me all these trips before I finally got one of these tasty little treats? It was delicious! :thumbsup2 We also got some coffees and hot chocolates to warm ourselves up.

Yes, I let the kids feed these little birds. There were hardly any people around so I didn't feel like we were risking making anyone mad, and they weren't even big yucky birds that I would have had a problem with! LOL!

(Love the bird sitting on Scuttle's scope)

We hit the restrooms right there and got ready to go when I heard Shawn say to Michael, "come on, buddy, let's go take a ride on Small World with Katie!" SAY WHAT? :scared1: This is an ongoing joke in our family - the girls both want to do Small World, and the boys wish it would get run down by a runaway Thunder Mountain train, forcing Disney World to replace it with something more exciting! So when I heard that, I had to do a double take. Michael kind of sighed but he actually went without a fuss! Those boys must secretly love it too! ;) Pop Pop and Katie went with Shawn and Michael, and we agreed to meet up at Philharmagic as soon as they were done.

In the mean time, Mom, Emily, and I went over to the giftshop next to Philharmagic. I think it used to be the one called Tink's Treasures and is now called Castle Couture. We were on the hunt for a Silvermist pin for Katie as it is her favorite fairy and she had not been able to find one all week. Well, we didn't find one, but we did find a Silvermist doll that we knew she would love. Emily picked out some jewelry for my MIL and also got a necklace for herself plus a charm for her charm bracelet. I got some earrings as well. Purchases in hand, we went back out to the Philharmagic waiting area and found them waiting for us.

Katie was very excited about her Silvermist doll!

(Boys???)

We walked right into Philharmagic and waited to be let into the theater for the standard 10 or 12 minutes. The show was great as always and we all enjoyed watching Donald and all his antics. Seriously, who doesn't love this attraction? It's funny! It's charming! It's silly! It's overall just happy!!! It has great music and features some great Disney movies, and is just so well-done you have to love it! Yum....APPLE PIE!!!

Shawn tried to replicate his 3D picture of Ariel and her hands using the glasses over his camera lens like he had done on our couples trip last May. He did a pretty good job, but I think the other one is slightly better.

1454-Disney-02-12-2010.jpg

With so much accomplished at this point, we decided to head towards Space Mountain to use our fastpasses and get Emily on for her first time! :thumbsup2 Grandmommy and Pop Pop offered to take Katie for a spin on the TTA so we split up in different groups again and we were off to ride the "new" Space Mountain. At this point, the rain was REALLY coming down. Lovely. BBB appointments were in 45 minutes. Wonderful.

So, the four of us gave all of our stuff to the others to hold for us and we made our way over to Space Mountain in the rain and zoomed through the fastpass line and straight to the loading area. This was going to be Emily's first time ever riding Space, and also my first time riding it since it had been refurbed last year (the boys had already been on it the other day with Dave and Hunter).

We arranged ourselves so that Michael was sitting in the 3rd seat of the first rocket, and then myself in the first seat of the second rocket, with Emily behind me, and Shawn behind her and we were off. She LOVED it and I loved hearing her giggle the whole time behind me! I really enjoyed the changes that they made. The way they took off the stripes on the side of the rockets really make you feel like you are all alone out there in space. You can still hear other people, but you don't see where the other rockets are, like you used to. I thought the ride seemed a little smoother, but I think I'm in the minority on that one as most people I hear don't think so at all. :confused3

Anyway, it was great fun and when we left the rain was coming down even harder so we hung out in the gift shop for a while before deciding to make a run for the bathrooms across the way. We were pretty wet anyway, so we figured why not?

The rain was still coming down but had definitely slowed and we saw that a certain space toy was out for pictures, so we jumped in line. Without my trusty character-loving Katie with me, I had to convince Emily to go up and get her picture with Buzz. To do so, I had to agree to get up there in the picture with her...poncho and all!

Image0857.jpg

Image0850.jpg

Thank goodness for Photopass, because our bags were with the grandparents.

While we were riding Space and meeting Buzz, Grandmommy and Pop Pop walked around with Katie and did a little shopping. Then they took a spin on the TTA before coming to find us as we were finishing up with Buzz. We grabbed fastpasses for Buzz for later as the girls had not been on it yet this trip, and got ready to split up once again!

The girls were off to go to the BBB and the boys were headed for Adventureland. Yes, the rain was still coming down and the temps only seemed to be getting colder...

All caught up again! I love those photos of everyone in front of the Castle.

How great that you were able to eat at Liberty Tavern for breakfast. I have not been there in years as the food doesn't really appeal to me, but I would go there for breakfast in a heartbeat! I wish they offered this all the time!

Your kids look like they are having a blast touring with your mom and stepdad.

Hopefully the weather doesn't get any worse....what a different rain can make on your touring plans!:sad2:

Thanks Trish! Just updated two more times while you were posting!

Yeah, I wish LTT was open for breakfast all the time....wouldn't it be great? :thumbsup2

Rain definitely makes you change some things up, that's for sure! :goodvibes

You know, we've never done the Carousel! :scared1: Your post reminded me of that and we need to make a point to ride next time.

The step-family sounds like such a hoot! What a fun interaction. :rotfl:

We've only waited in line for Ariel once, and you are right, that line is sooooo slow moving. Sorry about the rude guests in front of you. Some people just don't think.

Yum on the cream cheeze pretzels. One of my favorite treats.

So glad Emily liked Space Mountain too! Did Shawn have to lean forward and hold her shoulders like I had to with Sam her first ride? Man, that hurt!

You and Buzz make a nice looking couple.

:cool1: Two more updates! You are cranking them out girl!

Once again, your rainy pics remind me of our last trip. But you are still getting a lot done!

Confession time ~ We've never been on the carousel either. Or Dumbo.

Yes, it would be nice to have another option for breakfast in the MK, wouldn't it? Maybe I should write a letter!

Thanks Nicole! Your cruise is getting so close - are you SO excited, or what?

Sara

Yes, please do write a letter!!! ::yes::

And OMG my cruise IS so close!!!
yahoo.gif
Uh, yeah, you could say I am a little bit excited!

These were great updates! It is so neat to read about your trip because you went during a pretty slow time, and it is amazing to hear about how much you were able to accomplish at the parks in such a short amount of time! :goodvibes

I can't believe those people hogged the umbrella even though they saw you had kids. That is so rude! :headache: I probably would have gotten right up there with them and stood as close as I could until they got uncomfortable and moved! :rotfl:

I can't wait to see pics from the BBB appointment!!! :woohoo:

Michelle??? The Carousel? Seriously? Next time, promise??

Yeah, the line for Ariel was deceiving - I can't even imagine waiting for that with any kind of line because without much of a line, it still took us at least 20-15 minutes I think!

Nope, no one held on to Emily. She was totally fine with it and LOVED it! I don't know if she liked it as much as Everest, but she still loved it!

Yeah, 2 more updates to get me through like 2 hours of our trip! :rolleyes1I'm trying, but I'm so long-winded! I think sometimes when I hit my *image* limit, I just decide to stop; hence the small amount of time covered with each update! BBB might take me 3 updates just for it!! LOL! I hope you take a moment to ride Dumbo next time! Classic!!!:goodvibes

Hey - not only do you have a cruise ticker, but I notice a new WDW ticker!! Woo-hooty-hoot!!!!:banana:

Yes, February was a great time to go for low crowds! (That is, until our last day....which was the day after this one...)

Too funny about the umbrella hogs - you're right - I should have just encroached!! Then maybe they would have gotten the hint! :headache:

Sara

What day of the week was this? The reason I ask is we got there on Saturday 2/13. We started driving on the Friday and it was snowing here then raining.

I'm so sorry it was cold and rainy. While we were there it was just cold. I hope those hot chocolates did the trick.

Such low crowds and you're getting so much done. I love the character interaction with the step family. That was great! I've waiting in very long lines to see Ariel. It moves really slow. I hope it's better when they finish the Fantasyland rehab.

Yeah for Emily riding Space Mountain! I'm glad she liked it. I think I'm just getting too old for those thrill rides.

This was Friday, the 12th. Luckily, the next day was nice out. Still cold, but not rainy, so that was definitely an improvement. We basically had this day and the Studios day that were cold AND rainy. The other days had sunlight, which makes everything better, right?

The step-family is always good it seems! They do well with the casting for those characters! :thumbsup2

This was the day we got snow and rain. Saturday was beautiful. We spent Saturday at DTD and ate at TREX. We just missed each other.

I hope they keep the step-family in the parks. It would be a shame for them to go away with all the rehab.

Yep - just missed eachother. We were at Epcot on the 13th and left that night! (I'll eventually get to that day....eventually...:rolleyes1)

BTMRR, one of my favs. Good thing you did it first thing before the rain.
IASW is a must do, but once is enough. Yay for Emily's first ride on Space Mountain. If Chloe is tall enough I will probably let her, but the no seatbelts kinda freaks me out.

Add me to the list that has never ridden the carousel. We skip it because the kids never seem too interested, and by that I mean they run right past it!

Ahh, the stepsisters. I am really looking forward to meeting them this time. Great character interaction!

Yeah, I was especially happy that we had decided to do Thunder Mtn first thing that morning, or else Katie would not have had a ride on it the whole week.

Emily did fine on Space, but I totally understand your nervousness. The harness comes down on their laps, but what I was more worried about was her riding all by herself, i.e. single file. I get worried if I can't see my child's face or hold their hand. I didn't need to worry - she did fine.

The stepsisters are great fun - hope you run into them. We saw them during the Halloween party 2 years ago and they were just walking through the park talking to one another (not a formal meet and greet...although I'm sure they were doing those somewhere that night) and they were a riot.

Kathy, so glad you are back posting (or have you been back and I just haven't seen??) :confused3

I see you are going on a Mom's trip in January! Yay!! SO happy for you!:banana:

Still going in June though, right?

Sara

Nope.

Family trip is pushed forward to December 2011.

I was out of touch, DIS-wise, for a few months and am trying desperately to catch up with all the great TRs (like yours!) :goodvibes

Kathy
So glad you're back! I saw your blog post and tried to comment, but for some reason it wouldn't let me. Strange, because I know I have commented in the past. :confused3 Hmmm...anyways, all it said was how happy I was that you were going to be able to go with your Spectrum Moms and how wonderful it is that you all have found eachother and can gain so much valuable information and support from one another! :grouphug: It's fabulous!!

Day 6 – February 12, 2010
Magic Kingdom
Chapter 5

The boys were off to find adventure….albeit kind of slowly, as Pop Pop had decided to forego the ECV today due to the rain and his overall feeling like he could handle it. Not exactly the best choice, but I’ll get to that later. They didn’t take any pictures for me to share as Shawn just pretty much put away his camera when the rain started coming down really hard. They did the Jungle Cruise before the rain got to be too heavy, and then they hit Pirates. They grabbed some lunch at Pecos Bills and after that, around 2:30 they left to go back to the Poly to dry off and warm up.

4490559696_afdc56443c_b.jpg

A cold and rainy Poly…still beautiful though

The girls were headed for the BBB inside the castle. This never seems to get old for my girls. I really thought that with the crummy weather, the BBB would be fairly empty, but apparently everyone was just like me in that they prepared for it, they were there, and by golly….they were gonna do it come rain or highwater (or both as it were)!

We got checked in and I told them that they had their own dresses that they would need to change into. I do so love the Disney costumes, but they aren’t usually the most comfortable or affordable, so we have always brought our own. The "needing to change" thing was not a problem and they said they would call us back to a dressing room a little bit before our scheduled appointment times in order for them to get changed.

Just then Katie decided that she really needed to use the bathroom. I told Mom I knew they had one over by Pinocchios, behind Dumbo, but surely they had one closer than that here at the BBB, so I asked.

Um..….nope.

At this point, the rain was POURING down and tons of people were huddled underneath the castle trying to stay dry and somewhat warm. What made it worse is that they had the castle closed off like they do when they are getting ready for a castle stage show, but all of us under there KNEW that they were not going to be doing the next show due to the rain, so you would think they would open up the rest of the castle “tunnel” so that we weren’t all crammed into the small little BBB/CRT waiting area. Oh well. So Grandmommy offered to run with Katie to the bathroom beside Pinocchios while I waited with Emily. Wouldn’t you know they called us back to the dressing room as soon as they left? I told the CMs the situation and they asked if I preferred to wait so that the girls could do the whole thing together and I told them I would.

So we waited.

And waited.

And waited.

Oh for the love of Pete….what was taking so long??? I swear I know time passes much slower when you are anxiously awaiting someone’s return (sort of like a watched pot never boils) but they were indeed gone for a LONG time. The rain just kept pounding down and I was standing there wondering how in the world we were going to keep their “makeovers” looking nice in this cold monsoon!!

Finally I saw them, so I grabbed the giant XL Ziploc bag that had been under the stroller all morning (dresses were safe and sound and DRY in there) and made a bee-line for the check-in desk to let them know we were all together again.

I couldn’t wait to get in there. It was WARM in there!! :cold:

They led us back to a dressing room and the girls were giddy with excitement. We took off their soaked leggings that were all wet along the bottom, along with their wet shoes, but left the white long-sleeved shirts they had on underneath their shirt dresses so that they would be able to stay somewhat warm in their princess dresses!

Oh yeah, the dresses…. Emily decided that this time she wanted to be Belle. She has been Cinderella twice before, plus she thinks she looks the most like Belle, so we found a very sweet Belle costume online for $19 and only had to hem it (well, my MIL did that) as it was seriously long on her. Katie wanted to be Tiana from the Princess and the Frog, but she only decided that a few days before the trip when she saw a “dress-up” dress at Target. Prior to that, she was going to wear a white dress we already had and be Cinderella “Bride”. Once she saw the Target Tiana dress, she decided that’s what she wanted to be. I loved the dress and the price too – I think it was $14.99. So cute!

With the girls changed, we went back out to the waiting room to wait a little bit longer. Although it was now a good bit past our appointment time, they probably took someone else in to keep the appointments from getting backed up. I really didn’t mind as we were dry and warm in there. After about 10 more minutes of waiting, they took them back at the same time. They weren’t next to eachother but they offered to have us wait a little bit longer so that they could be in seats right beside one another, but I was fine with it. Katie was in the last seat before the dressing rooms, and Emily was along the back wall, so really there was only one other girl in between them. With only our cell phones and video, we did the best we could with covering the split location event! LOL!

This was our 3rd visit to the BBB, but this visit had the best Fairy Godmothers in Training. They have all been nice and pleasant in the past, but these ladies were so bubbly and cheerful, asking lots of questions, and telling them all sorts of fun things. Katie’s FGMIT told her that they do all the princesses hair and make-up before they start their days in the MK. She asked if Katie had met any of them that day, and Katie said “just Ariel” and she told her that she did her hair and makeup in that very chair just today in fact – and that she is the only princess that they have to bring around in a baby pool! LOL! Then Katie told her that she had seen the step-sisters and the FGMIT said that they do their own make-up. LOL!

So, without further adieu…the transformation pictures!!

As they got started on Katie’s hair (you notice how short it is, right?) they said they would probably just pull the sides up to do the bun and leave the back down as it probably wouldn’t all fit up that high on her head. I figured as much and that was fine with me as Katie is not um….shall we say….."good" with having her hair done.

At least not with me.

Or anyone in the family.

Or even herself. Ha!

(Katie again! By some miracle she was starting to pull all of Katie’s hair up)

They must have spent 20 minutes just trying to get Katie’s hair up in a bun! Apparently, the more the FGMIT worked with it, the more she wanted to get it up there, so she kept trying. Honestly, that is some serious Disney magic for Katie to sit there and let her do that – she sees me coming a mile away with a brush and hides. Only at Disney. :goodvibes

It was when they turned her around that Emily said "did Katie get something different from me?" I said "what do you mean?" She said, "she doesn't have a mickey in the back!" So I leaned over to Tessa (FGMIT) and mentioned it and she said "oh my word! In all the excitement over getting her hair up, I completely forgot!" LOL! It was too cute! Way to go Emily!! (You can see in the above pic how Katie is missing the hidden Mickey)!

With the transformations complete, we were ready to head out.

How's that weather though??? :scratchin

Sara

Yay! I was so excited for this update! I couldn't wait to see the girls' BBB makeovers! :goodvibes They both look beautiful, and it is so great that they got good FGMIT! :goodvibes

Love the BBB update! They are so beautiful. Their dresses look fabulous too. We brought our own dresses too. What girl doesn't like to be treated so special and made up. I think it's so great that they have done it 3 times and still love it.

Thanks! I think it's a great idea to bring your own dresses if they want to do the whole thing. Definitely a cost-saver!! I'm afraid that next time Emily might want to just wear a princess-y shirt or something, but I'm trying not to think about that right now. :sad1:

Sara

Hi Sara,
All caught up on your updates. I'm enjoying hearing about your cold and rainy MK day. You got so much done! Sorry about the rude family in line for Ariel :snooty: that is just wrong. You saw the same Ariel we saw this past June, but she was wearing her green dress instead of a tail. I'm glad Emily enjoyed Space Mtn and that the boys agreed to ride Small world. I love the pics from the BBB makeover. The girls look beautiful! I love their dresses too. Glad they were able to get Katie's hair up in a bun and that Emily noticed the missing Mickey hair pin :goodvibes.
