A Smile in my Heart–Magical Week of Friends,Fun & Freezing-10/28-COMPLETE!

February 7th - Animal Kingdom - Chapter 3

I forgot to mention that while we were eating at Pizzafari, Michael's tooth was really bothering him. See, a couple of days before leaving for the trip, Michael mentioned to me that he felt something kind of "pop" in his tooth. It wasn't really bothering him though and I asked him again the next day (the day before we left) if it hurt at all and he said "no, it was fine" so I didn't think much more of it. Here we were....first full day of the trip and it was bothering him enough that he was having a hard time eating. Poor guy. I gave him some Children's Tylenol and we finished up eating and headed out.

I'm thinking it was about 1:30 at this point and we decided to split up. One group headed towards the Tree of Life to see It's Tough to be A Bug, and the other group headed to grab fastpasses for the Safari. We were going to meet up in Asia by the Maharajah Jungle Trek. The Bugs Life group was myself, Shawn, our 3 kids, Charlene, Luke, Kaitlyn, Dave, Peggy, Hunter, and Megan.

I think.

The other girls went with Nichole, Michelle, and Monica to grab the passes. Along the way they also caught some of Divine's performance. Drat - I was really hoping to catch that this trip.

We entered the theater and were let in to a showing almost immediately. The theater is very cool and the kids all thought it was pretty neat to be "inside" the tree. We donned our honorary bug eyes and got set to watch what I knew might not be the most favorite of 3D attractions for everyone (me included). It was gross at times but that didn't bother anyone. The kids all laughed. But then that dang Hopper came out and boy, does he look menacing! I can see why I hear more screams coming out of this theater than I do on Everest! Good grief. All our kids seemed to be fine though. I sat forward in my seat because I knew about the "stinger" part and really didn't want to feel it. We all liked it ok I think, but it certainly isn't my favorite of Disney's 3D choices! I'll take apple pie smells over stink bugs any day.

We left the theater and made our way over to Asia.

Other than to go on Everest, we have never ventured deep into Asia. This is not by choice, it's always our intention to get over to the MJT, but it just has never worked out for some reason. I was excited to be finally getting to go see the tigers and bats! At this point though, the boys were all about Everest!

All the way over it was "When are we going to Everest"? "Can we go to Everest next"? "I can't wait to ride Everest"! "You said we could do Everest"!

AHHHHH!!!! :scared1:

So, we determined at that point that the plan would need to be Tigers, Everest, Safari, Lion King.

There.

Done.

Shut it.

The rest of the crew was sitting off to the side in front of the Jungle Trek waiting for us and once we met up we decided to get a group shot of the kids in their matching shirts!

233-Disney-02-07-2010.jpg

Apparently, they thought we were hilarious for some reason. Either that, or Hunter was laughing....which means everyone would start laughing as his laugh is contagious! Either way...I love this picture!

235-Disney-02-07-2010.jpg

Apparently, Michael didn't "get" the joke! LOL!

So then some of the kids and husbands took pictures of just us Moms.

237-Disney-02-07-2010-1.jpg

In their attempt at impersonating a photopass photographer, they had us pose in our "animal" poses and this shot got dubbed the "Cougar Mom" shot!

238-Disney-02-07-2010-1.jpg

The kids at this point were very happy that we were sort of tucked over to the side and out of the public eye for the most part! What kind of Moms would we be if we didn't embarass them a few times, right? I'm regretting that we didn't get a shot of the two men in the group though!

Well, we managed to get some crazy shots of the younger boys though!

(Apparently, Luke has not mastered the "making crazy faces" like the older boys have! He has just mastered adorable!)

We ventured towards the Jungle! First up was the giant Tapir. The CM standing there said it was a female and she was like 16 years old and weighed upwards of 600 pounds I think! Yowzers - I don't think I would want to meet up with her in the jungle! She was kind of hidden over to the side but here is the best shot Shawn snapped.

245-Disney-02-07-2010.jpg

We made our way further in to hopefully see the Komodo Dragon, but no luck. The CM said it was too cold and they would not be out in this kind of weather. Drat. Ok, on to the bats.

As much as they freak me out, I was really looking forward to seeing the bats.

At least briefly.

And from a distance.

Well, no bats were out today either. Apparently, the cold was keeping a lot of these animals out of sight. This is the closest we got to seeing any bats:

Let's hope we have more luck with the tigers. They have lots of fur for pete's sake - they shouldn't mind the cold, right?

Thanks Becky! Glad you are back! Yes, I had to keep pinching myself over that view! We were so pleased!! :dance3: It was a lot of fun being there all together - we had a blast! :grouphug:

Good morning Sara!

I love the group shot of all the kids laughing. Those shots are just priceless! And people ask why we love WDW so much.....go figure! :confused3

No bats, really?? There are a ton of them...I wonder where they all go?? Well...they're gross, you didn't miss much! :)

Being able to embarrass your children is one of the joys of motherhood! ;)

So are we going on Everest next? :rotfl:

Yeah, I'm not sure where they all go either, Missy. I was behind the group so maybe the CM told everyone else....any of you other girls know? Maybe they have some dark cave-like sauna that they all bundle up in!

Well, the kids embarrass us enough...we figured we should repay the favor!

Ugh....Everest...one of my favorite rides, but if Michael didn't stop asking me when we would be going to ride it, I was prepared to leave him there with the Yeti!

Great updates!!! We love AK!!!! I love just walking around the animal trails and seeing all the animals!! I LOVE the tiger pics, we never can seem to get good pictures like that! Cannot wait to hear more about your trip!

Woo Hoo - another fabulous update! :cool1: I just love reliving that day through your report.

I haven't seen It's Tough to be a Bug in forever, really need to get back there. Sam was like four when we went last and was freaked out, so she has it in her head that she hates it. :confused3

Not sure what was up with the bats. I didn't hear any explanation. I was a little apprehensive about them, but was then disappointed when we didn't get to see any.

The tigers were awesome! I enjoyed watching them being so active. We had never been on that trail before so it was a treat to see everything and all the little hidden gems.

More please! popcorn::

I LOVED this update. The pictures were fantastic!! So sorry to hear about Michael's tooth, I hope it didn't get worse. What a bummer that it was too cold to see a lot of the animals but the tigers are beautiful!

The group pictures with the kids laughing was adorable, but my favorite was the "Cougar Mom" picture :thumbsup2.

It's too bad you didn't get to see DiVine. I saw her on our last trip and got some fantastic photos. She was so great at posing for me and my camera. Now, on the other hand, you really did hit the jackpot with the tigers. I've never been lucky enough to see them active in that exhibit. Usually they were just laying in the shade, cooling.

Carry on......popcorn::

Linda

Great update! I love all the pics! We havent seen the tigers (I am not even sure where they are!?) The picture of the girls with the bug glasses is great!!

Are the kids sad to be back home? Mine keep asking when we are going back!

I read your Herding Cats report and looking forward to this one. Just spent the last hour at work catching up - good thing my boss is out of town:). It looks like you are off to a great start.

Well I am finally all caught up! Sorry it took so long :sad2:

I am loving your report! You are so detailed - I feel like I'm right there with you! :thumbsup2 Can't wait to read more! popcorn::

I love its tough to be a bug. That was a very neat show. Aww maybe next time you guys can see more animals. At lest the tigers were out! i love the pic where they asked you guys to do your animal pose.

Great pictures of the kids and tigers. We only saw about 3 bats when we went the following week. I got great pictures of them during the heat of summer. Truth be told I'ld rather have great tiger pictures. Glad your family braved the bugs. I love that show, not the bugs but the reactions.

The kids all look so cute in their matching shirts! Glad to hear that noone in your group was scared of ITTBAB. Those tigers look like they were a lot of fun to watch!

Sara:

Love the cougar shot! And the matching t-shirts are adorable!

I actually like the bug show but boy I hate it when they feel like they are crawling under you! I scream every time.

Look forward to the next udpate! popcorn::

Erika

Great update and great photos.... I always love the "bug eyes" pictures that people take. It's tough to be a bug is one of my favorite attractions but of course it scares the poo-poo out of DD. I don't know why I torture the poor girl, but what mama wants, mama gets.:rotfl: So if I want to go, we go! ;) On our trip her auntie held her and she just hid her face the whole time. She didn't even bother wearing the glasses because she knew she didn't want to watch. She's a good sport.

Thanks! I like Animal Kingdom more each time I go there! It's really beautiful and I seem to relax more when I'm there....maybe all the tropical foliage makes me feel more peaceful or something! :confused3

I didn't realize you had never been on the tiger trail either Michelle! I loved it more than the gorilla one. They are both beautiful, but there was just something about the details they put in the architecture in Asia or something...it was just so pretty! So maybe Monica heard the explanation about the bats.....Monica????

Can we hear about Everest next? Can we, can we??? :rotfl:

Aww geez...now I feel like I'm right back there with Michael! I swear that boy had a one-track mind this trip! It's coming up....eventually...

LOL Tracy! It's so funny about the cougar mom thing...I mean, we are so NOT cougar moms! When Shawn did the design for the shirt, he also made one for us moms with a cougar print instead of zebra and put "Cougar Mom" on top! So classy!!

I love the kids laughing picture too! :goodvibes

Yeah Linda, there were some that were sleeping too...lazy old cats! I guess the cold weather was good for something that day! :thumbsup2

Thanks Nickie! The tiger trail is right near Kali (which we have never been on) - sort of before the monkeys, I think.

Oh yes, I hear it every day from the kids. Of course, I'm right there with them! :rolleyes1

I read your Herding Cats report and looking forward to this one. Just spent the last hour at work catching up - good thing my boss is out of town:). It looks like you are off to a great start.

Thanks for reading! (And for reading my first one...it was a doozie of a trip!):goodvibes

Thanks! It's funny how many things you start to remember as you sit down to write! Of course, I know I'm forgetting a lot of stuff too!
