A Small Rant about RX Home Delivery...

Inferior? They are the same brand. How can they be inferior?

If my vet's office fee went up 20% I would go elsewhere. ::yes::

Well - my "mail order" experiences with my DH's medications have been with the VA - which is a nightmare in itself - and I'm not terribly fond of it at all - but we don't have a choice..

On the other hand, I have had several experiences with the B&M pharmacies here where I was given the wrong medication.. The last incident literally could have resulted in my death - as well as the death of the other customer - after the pharmacist gave each of us the others medication..

So I guess it's safe to say there can be mistakes and hassles either way.. We all know how expensive medications are and when it comes down to spending more on meds than is necessary and as a result having to go without heat, food, lights or whatever, then people have to do what they have to do..

OK, keep on buying your vet meds online. We are so tired of wasting our time explaining how they're inferior that we just gave in and will ok the Rx's w/no questions asked. Of course, or office visit fee went up 20% this year as well. But that's not your problem.

ETA: sorry for going a little OT here; we seem to have 2 separate issues being discussed here.

In our case, we buy the meds at the vet and don't even check online.

Why?

Because I want our vet's office to stay open. If they close, I am hauling two 100 pound labs an hour each way to the vet. No thanks. I am willing to pay the extra money to TRY to keep the services available to me.

Again.... I get what I paid for. Sorry if that offends someone, but if I have the meds delivered to my door.... I get what I paid for... the meds. But if I buy them locally, I get the vet and office staff that know my dogs well asking how they are.... and servicing their needs if they are sick or we have a problem. Even after hours. It's worth it to me!

Prescription counseling? Is that the part where they staple the sheet of warnings to the paper bag?

:hyper: :rotfl: This is the same counseling I get at my local Kmart.

I used to go to People's. Then it became Revco. Then it became Rite-Aid and all the people that were there at the time from People's were gone. Everytime I went in there, there was a different person, so I never got to know any of the people working there.

Now, the kmart people know me by name, heck there is even one there who remembers when I bought the pregnancy test for my son!! Do they counsel me? No. If I ask a question will they answer it? yes. Would I prefer to pay less to get the same piece of paper delievered to my door? You better believe it! I did it mail order for a long time and never had any problems with it.

Good luck Dax on getting your scrpts right, I'm sure once the bugs are smoothed out you won't have any problems. And I wouldn't be too concerned about local pharmacies going out of business. If your town is anything like ours you have a stand alone pharmacy on every corner and within walking distance of another!!

You guys are making me feel really good about the level of service we provide our customers! You are definitely getting less than you deserve.... possibly less than required by law, IMO.

We are the only pharmacy in a 30 mile radius, but we treat our customers the way they deserve to be treated! :)

That's wonderful!! I think that in rural areas you do have better customer service. Part of what's lacking in our society today is an emphasis on the service aspect of their jobs. Thank you for working hard for your patrons.

I have never used mail order yet but I would not hesitate to use it if I had to.
The reason? DH and myself have three maintenance meds that we take, the doctor always gives us prescriptions for 3 months at a time with refills of three months at a time. My co-pay is still $25 for each for a 3 month supply, however I have heard a lot of people say they pay $25 per month even on mail order, in other words , it would cost me $75 for a three month supply for one medication. If I had to mail in for my maintenance meds, I would not have a problem. I use the local pharmacies for the short term meds.
What ticked me off the other day while I was waiting for my dd's meds, was that out of 6 customers I saw helped while I was waiting, only one of them had a $5 copay, the other five customers all used their access cards and had 0 co-pay, then here I come, I get my bill....$25 co-pay for me, and I should consider myself lucky because it could be worse !
