A single night, room-only stay question......

My family will rely solely upon Disney transportation for our upcoming Sept trip, including Magical Express to/from the airport. Our returning flight doesn't depart until 8:50 p.m., so I know we'll have several hours of "hang time" prior our departure from POP to the airport. In order for my family to have a nice comfortable place to nap right up until the moment we board the bus, I am CONSIDERING a one-night, AAA room-only reservation for the night of our departure. Here's the plan . . .

At least 4 other times in the past I have added a single night, room-only stay onto the end of my package stay and received a guarantee from the CM upon checkin that I would not have to switch rooms, and I would not have to come to the resort desk because it would be "taken care of." It has always worked just the way the CMs have said. The way I see it is that if I cannot be guaranteed on the day of check in that I will not have to switch rooms at the end of my package stay, then I can turn right around and call to cancel that one-night reservation on that very day. (FYI: I will still be outside the 5-day cancelation window at the time of check in -- 6 days out, to be exact.)

So the question is: Is there any reason why this would not work?

:thanks:

I think the problem may be that no CM can really guarantee you won't have to change rooms when your new reservation kicks in. They will do their best, but no guarantees in my experience.

We've had two reservations a couple of times and have never had to change rooms, but I think it's always a possibility.

So, it could work that they say they will do everything they can to make sure you don't have to move. But, then the day of, they have to move you anyway. By the time you find that out, it's too late to cancel your reservation.

Have you considered moving to another hotel for that day? If you're mostly going to rest, swim, etc., you could book a room at the Hyatt Regency at the airport. I even think they have a day rate. Take an earlier ME bus to the airport, then relax in your hotel room there, enjoy their pool and lobby and then you're right at the airport when it's time to board your flight. There are restaurants at the hotel and in the airport where you could have dinner before your flight.

Just a thought.

I believe this is what you are saying. You have a current reservation. However, your flight doesn't leave until later that night so you want to stay in your room until you have to leave on the Magical Express. That will give you time to relax there instead of being "homeless" for the day and late check out is never guaranteed and it's not late enough. I think that is correct.

You want to now make a room only reservation at the same resort but you are concerned that you will not get the same room or even that you don't want to go back down to the front desk and check out and then back in.

But from past experience, at check in, you have requested to extend your stay by one night so you are "guaranteed" to stay in your room and not have to check out and then back in.

I think what you are really doing is extended your original reservation by one night, not getting a new room reservation number and that's why it's "taken care of". It's not a separate reservation but an extension of the original one.

To cover your bases, keep your one night room only reservation. But if you cannot extended your original reservation, you will have to come back and check out and check in. More than likely, you will not have to switch rooms. And going back down to the front desk takes such a short amount of time to do.

If you can extended you reservation, then have that front desk person take care of your other reservation right then and there. No need to call and cancel. It can be done at check in.
