A simple breakfast for six

For those that have never read my trip reports, I am a 40 year-old Dad of four wonderful children. Christopher, also known as the map boy, is now ten. Connor is seven. Alex, the infamous octopus, is three and Caley is two. The glue that holds us all together is, of course, the mom, my wife Kathy who is 36. I am a fanatical Disney planner and am currently preparing for January trips in both 2004 and 2005. In preparation for another set of trip reports, I present breakfast at joedisney’s…

Breakfast for a family of six is never simple. I wake up with the idea of having scrambled eggs, toast and a nice cup of hot coffee. Connor immediately informs me that he doesn’t like scrambled eggs. Undaunted, I set out for the kitchen where I stumble upon Alex. Staring up at me with those big, bright blue eyes, he politely asks, “can I help make breakfast Dad?” We start with the coffee. After dropping several hundred coffee beans all over the counter and floor, we are soon brewing the life-blood that will fuel me for the rest of the day. Just as we are about to start the eggs, cook number three (I know, too many cooks…), Caley Elisabeth, joins us at the counter. Soon the eggs are cooking and the two miniature cooks are arguing over who will distribute the forks and who will do the plates. Argument two involves where Alex will sit, followed by where Caley’s baby doll will sit.

Breakfast is ready. The eggs are steaming, the bagels are golden brown and the coffee smells great. In come the big boys. Connor moves Caley’s baby over to Christopher’s seat and starts in on his Lucky Charms. Christopher comes in and moves baby onto the floor. Eggs are distributed, drinks are poured and I’m ready to dig in. I grab the sports page, sit down and take a sip of my coffee. As I slide my fork in to a fluffy clump of scrambled eggs, Caley’s cup of red juice flies off the table onto her seat and all over the floor. As her butt soaks in most of the juice on the chair, I put down my fork and go get some paper towels. After cleaning the mess, I sit back down to the still warm eggs and get in one mouthful before Caley realizes she is still thirsty and asks for more juice. I refill all of the cups and sit back down. By this time, Alex is done with his breakfast, slides down from his chair and heads off to play. As he rushes towards the family room, he trips over Caley’s baby and falls flat on his face.

As I finish my cold eggs and coffee, Connor sarcastically proclaims, “that was a peaceful breakfast!” By now, Caley is done and starts to head out with her juice soaked bottom. I quickly grab her before she gets to far and slide off her pajama bottoms. “You’re free,” I say as I set her down to play. “No”, she says, “I’m two.” And so another day begins in the life of joedisney.

LOL you really made me laugh this morning. Reminds me of meals in my house when we were growing up!!

I can't wait to read your trip reports!! that was great!! :teeth:

You are hilarious. I bet you and your wife are great parents! :)

LOL! That is too precious. Enjoy those moments! :teeth:

Loved it, very funny! BTW. my DD's name is Calley, similar to your Caley. Oh, one more thing, my grown DS lives in Medford (Tufts grad) and works at Biogen in Cambridge. I noticed you are west of Boston! Small world!

LOL!!! I love this! Can't wait to go read your trip reports, joe!
May I suggest McDonald's next week though? ;)

Just another typical Sat. morning breakfast :)

You should print that out and save it for them to read when they are older :)

As a fellow dad of 4 (one also a Connor, who by the way just got a saxophone Thursday, his practice scares the dog to death but that is another story... ) I can't quite help but notice a flaw in you menu planning.

We have established that there are Lucky Charms in the house (as there should always be)

Here is the approved plan:

Start coffee

1) Open Lucky Charms
2) Pour 4 bowls.
3) Set on table.
4) Retreat to kitchen - drink coffee in peace.

This works well for dinner too, just substitute Scotch for coffee.

Great to hear from you Joe!
Wishing you & the kids all the best.

Want a saxophone?

Zurg your too funny.....thanks for sharing. Added much needed smile on the gloomy rainy day.

ROFL!
And this is why I send the kids out to breakfast with DH on Saturdays. ;)

And heres a tip...add food coloring to the scrambled eggs. DS goes absolutely nuts over this. He thinks its the greatest meal.

Oh yeah a little food coloring goes a long way. Now I still think you put it in the lucky charms 'cause it is so much easier to make ( and more likely to actualy be eaten) than eggs.

Enjoy those moments. They grow up too fast. You are such a great writer...I remember the exploding diaper story in your last trip report.:D

Hey Zurg, I was also going to suggest cereal.
Joe, loved the story. Can't wait to read your next report.
:D

Heck! I don't want to wait on a trip report! I think your daily life is exciting enough to write about!
I only have 1 child but my sister has 4. I think you see the humor in it all better than she... :p

Zurg...you are too funny!:D

Hey Zurg you crack me up! I think I'll pass on the sax, but I am in the market for a big bannana. So let me get this straight, you substitute the milk for scotch in the Lucky Charms and then retreat to the kitchen for coffee?

Hope all is well with your crew as well!
