A Short Word on Strollers

I think everyone's been bumped by a stroller.... you're on vacation! you smile, know it wasn't on purpose, and say, "whoops, sorry!" Move on with your day. At least that's how I look at it. Someday, I'll have a stroller and hope that I will control them better.

I think the worst part of it all isn't strollers at all. It's the folks that are walking down Main St. and decide to just STOP in front of you (no brake lights!) so they can take a picture of the castle!

ACK!!! Many collisions there.

Just a quick suggestion, for everyone that has had problems being run over by strollers etc. Maybe Disney isn't the place to go. You will absolutely a ton af families with stollers and some of us even have more than 1. Sandals which doesn't alllow children maybe a better destination. As far as scooters/wc go the ADA gives everyone the same right. Maybe we should just be a little more considerate of those with mobility issues. My family would definatley not have been a welcomed sight as we were travelling with3 stollers(2doubles) and a wheelchair on our last trip.
BTW how do you handle the mall during christams season, talk about a mob scene.

I have never been run over or hit by a stroller in my 5 Disney trips so far, although I did see a rude stroller pusher plowing through a crowd and running, to get to a show at AK!!:scared1:

This is an ongoing battle. It will never end. Those without strollers blame the stroller pushers; and those with strollers blame the pedestrians who stop suddenly while walking or cut right in front of their stroller like they are invisible.

It comes down to this. There are rude people all over the world that come in all shapes and sizes. Some have strollers and some don't. Some stroller pushers are very considerate and nice and some aren't and the same goes for the pedestrians.

There are rude people everywhere at WDW. The ones who cut in on your parade spot you've been holding for an hour. The ones who hold a parade spot for 10 people but only 2 are holding it while the rest go on rides. The same with line cutters/holders; while someone does a different ride they have family members hold their spot in the other line. I could go on and on.

There are rude people everywhere.

The OP comments about stroller pushers is in comparison with saying that all smokers are inconsiderate and that certainly isn't true!

I just find it sad that as humans we all find each other so annoying. The lady that stops to take a picture, I am just happy that she is having a good time and taking a picture and I just slow down and walk around her.

Someone bumps me with a stroller on accident, just smile and nod.

Now there ARE some very rude people in the world, and I am not excusing their behavior, but I think most of the stoppers and bumpers are just in awe of disney and enjoying themselves. Give them some space, and hopefully they will do the same for you next time you get so awestruck by the sites, you feel compelled to stop.

Can't say we've ever had stroller issues either..

However, there was that one time that a woman had her child sleeping in a stroller at the parade and insisted that everyone BE QUIET so as not to wake the baby..

Okay........................

Nice tone.

I'm going to agree that there are rude people in the world..., but also disagree here...

Just because you're on vacation does not mean you don't have to be mindful of your surroundings. Usually there's a mass exodus on Main St. towards the castle. If you stop, you're going to get run over. If you want to take a picture, be aware that there are a lot of people who are going to be walking AT you and since they are looking around at all the sights, they may not see you and bump into you.

Oh that's a hoot. Yeah, quiet at Disney. HA!

Just out of curiousity, do all of these "issues" - with strollers, cussing people, stopping on a dime, jumping in front of others to see the parade, and all of the other irritants - only occur during very crowded time frames?

I've never been to Disney during a crowded or peak season so I'm wondering if it's more of a problem then.. I can honestly say that after reading all of the numerous threads on these boards about all of these awful happenings, I would be very reluctant to even go to WDW at more crowded times.. :(

No, they happen when it isn't as crowded too. Main St is always busy and people get caught up in the moment. IMHO, it's life. It's exciting to be at Disney, no matter how many times you have been there already and people are not as aware of the surroudings (ie. other people) when the excitement and adrenalyn rush kicks in.

My cut and paste doesn't work, but to respond to the poster who's response to my post about ECV's being difficult to handle--I didn't mean to imply (nor did I ever say) that not being familiar with an ECV is an excuse to use them to bump into people. On the contrary, they should watch where they're going, like everyone else. I meant to say (which I thought I did) that those things are difficult to drive and those using them are probably not too familiar with the "feel" of them since most of them are rented. Just a warning to others that you should be extra careful around someone in one of them since their handling can be unpredicitable. BTW, I have arthritis and refuse to use one of those for those reasons. I don't want to spend all my time worrying about driving that thing and not able to relax and enjoy the parks like everyone else. I'd rather limit my walking, take frequent rest breaks, and enjoy myself.

I'm glad that most parents put their kids in strollers. I remember what it was like not being in a stoller when I was 3. Those were 2 VERY long days in the MK. I also remember touring when my sister was 3 and 4 and not in a stroller. That wasn't fun. She had a tendency to fall asleep standing up, which meant she would litterally fall over and get stepped on. We also walked at a snail's pace. My dad refused to bring strollers to WDW. He acted like those things were the plague. Have I been hit by strollers? Sure have. Do I care? Not really. It hurts for a minute and then it's all over. I'll probably be flamed for saying this but...We go to WDW expecting to find strollers, wheelchairs and ECV's. Those of us lucky enough to not need any of those pieces of equipment just need to shut up and deal with them honestly. They may inconvinience us slightly, but they are a very big convinience to those who need them. Most probably wouldn't be able to be there without them. It's a public place, and they should have the opportunity to visit.

Personally, I think that anyone who says that strollers shouldn't be allowed in the parks has some growing up of his/her own to do. It's not a practical plan. Children thrive when exposed to lots of different experiences. Plus, what about families with multiple children? We only have one right now with one more on the way, but we plan to have about 4 or 5, all pretty close together. I think my oldest will be in Jr High before I don't have any in a stroller.

When I started this thread I simply wanted to air my peeve about some, not all stroller drivers. I don't think I ever said I wanted strollers banned for this is simply not a practical alternative.

Convenience?? Yes. But put the kid/s in the thing at least. I have seen many a stroller so full of stuff that the parents were CARRYING the kid/s around. Not very practical.

So what. It isn't hurting you. Kids get tired of riding in strollers and it works for carrying packages. Rather than the parent carry the kid and packages and hit people with packages, put them in the stoller if needed. It works.

No, even at the quietest times of the year crowds will gather. Parades and fireworks, being at the end of the day, bring together the worst drivers, tiredest kids and most exhausted parents.

My only bad stroller experiences are leaving after fireworks (Epcot and MK). You cannot drive a stroller in those massive, shuffling crowds and not clip a few ankles.

Sit, relax, the kid's probably asleep anyway. Get an ice cream and watch the kiss goodnight.

All I can say is WOW.

Oh and that DD 4 was almost BURNED WITH A CAGARETTE in AK.

Yes burned! We were in AK and just coming out of a restaraunt. We had just exited and started to walk with the crowd. I am a non smoker and am very aware of the smell, I dont know what made me look but when I did, there it was, OH SO CLOSE to my babies face!
I was furious.

Had something similar happen in WalMart yrs ago. was walking around holding DS's hand. He was about 5 or so at the time. A guy ahead of us smoking in the store. He saw an employee so he sticks the cigarette behind him and missed DS's eye by just a couple of inches.

Thats just about what happend to us, just right at face level!
