A Sensible Dinner - Pearlieq's Journal

Welcome "back" Pearlieq!!
I am so happy to hear that the kitties are recovering, when mine has been sick in the past I know my life gets jumbled, so I am sure it has not been easy!

I admire that you were able to leave those cookies behind. They sound deadly and delicious! hehe! And as for granola bars, nowadays it seems like some of them have more candy in them than a chocolate bar! Of course, I dislike granola so I haven't been paying that close attention. hehe :goodvibes

Hope that you had a great night and an even better tomorrow!
Mike :wizard:

Good morning Pearlieq! :cool1:

Even though the granola bars are now taboo, it could have been much worse. Great job on leaving the cookies at your mom's. I have foods that I would like to try as well, but am afraid that if I like them too much, I will eat them all. Those are always best tried with unsuspecting guests around. ;)

Keep up the good work and I will see you in a few days! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

I use canned diced tomatoes in black bean soup and chicken curry...can also be the start of sauce for pasta.

i'm just trying to catch up on everyone's journals.. sorry to hear about the kitties.. i'm glad they are doing better..I'm a MAJOR cat person so I hate hearing that they were sick!
if you like the taste of granola, have you thought of just buying a bag of loose granola..i put it in yougart, etc... it's good :)
those cookies sound so good!! I'm all for white chocolate ANYTHING!!!

hope you have a good day

7/6/05

9:00am

--1 light yogurt cup
--1 LC chicken florentine

I didn't really want "breakfast food" but this is really tasty. I guess I can't say much other than I'm here and trying again!

9:40am

--1 bite oatmeal

I made up this big bowl of oatmeal, with brown sugar and raisins, even though I wasnt' hungry. It sounded good I guess. I took a taste after it was done, and it was awful--I don't know if oatmeal packets go bad, but it wasn't great. Luckily, it seemed to snap me out of whatever I was doing, so the rest went down the drain.

1:30pm

--1 light string cheese
--1 whole wheat english muffin
--1 T. peanut butter
--1 T. low sugar jam
--2 carrots
--2 T. hummus
--3 prunes
--1 cup nsa pudding
--1 mug light lemondae with raspberry syrup

I made it to Curves today, which was cool. It drives me nuts when I get on the circuit behind someone, being careful to leave a few extra machines between the two of us, and then they start doing double sets on the machines until I have no choice but to be right behind them! Ugh! If you want to do a machine again, either go around twice or jump in after your circuit is done! If I had wanted to be right behind you I would have started there! /end rant

I may be going to the pool later on with my neighbors. It will be nice to get out and see people. I've been in kind of a funk for the last couple of weeks. I've been feeling very negative and angry toward other people, sometimes with good reason, sometimes with fairly minor provocation. I realize though that the negative feelings are toxic, for lack of a better word, and damage no one but me, so I'm trying to shake it off.

I have to go to the store this afternoon/evening! I made a big batch of tortilla soup this morning and I think we'll have salads with grilled chicken and pita chips with hummus. Not sure about tomorrow yet.

2:00pm

--1 1/2 ounces reduced fat potato chips

I wasn't quite satisfied after lunch. Much better now!

6:15pm

--2/3 cup chicken broth
--1 breadstick
--2 pieces of meatloaf w/gravy & ketchup
--1/2 cup mashed potatoes w/gravy
--2/3 cup corn

I did wind up going to the pool with the neighbors and it was a lot of fun (good exercise, too!) After that DH and I went to dinner at a local restaurant--the entire place was wide open, but we were seated directly next to some gabby ladies, one of whom made constant calls on her cell throughout the meal. Relaxing it was not! The food was pretty tasty, though, and very reasonable.

7:15pm

--1 piece nsa cheesecake
--1 T raspberry syrup

This was pretty good--it cured my "I need dessert" but it probably wouldn't ever seek it out to have again. I'm going to make every effort to be done now for the night!

11:00pm

--1 whole wheat english muffin
--1 T. peanut butter
--1 1/2 T low sugar jam
--1 oz rf potato chips

I wound up staying up late while DH finished his work and I got too hungry to ignore. I'm loving these peanut butter/english muffin sandwiches! It was dark in the kitchen and I slopped on too much jam, but it was still tasty.

Finally! A good day! Haven't seen one of these in a while...

You're here! That's a big step, so don't minimize it too much! It's not a race; it's a journey with highs and lows.

I can remember days when 8 cookies would have been just the start of me polishing off the whole bags. Maybe you did better than you're giving yourself credit for.

So when are you off to DC? Fair warning- it was really hot and humid there last week. Be sure to bring cool clothes and a good pair of shoes for touring the museums (those concrete floors at the Smithsonian are murder on feet!)

Hope you have a good day!

Hi there!

I'm sorry you're frustrated. I wish I had words of wisdom but I seem to be slumping also. I'm not gaining (yet - knock on wood) but I don't seem to be losing anything either.

This weekend, I'm having a nice long chat with DH about Curves, exercise, etc. The only way I'm going to get exercise in is to pay for it and get up and go somewhere to do it.

Even though you're kind of ambivalent right now, you're still trying and that's what matters. Just keep swimming!! :flower:

Hi Pearlieq,

I just wanted to stop in and say hi! Great job on leaving the cookies.

Hope you had a wonderful day and evening.

Keep up the good work!

7/7/05

9:00am

--1 LC peanut chicken
--1 Light 'n fit yogurt cup

Again, I wanted something different for breakfast. I'm having a techincal probelm with my computer for work, so I'm pretty much stymied there, which stinks because I have a lot to do. Aside from work, I need to go grocery shopping and to take a long walk today. I think I'm going to try to alternate walking days with Curves days. I don't like going to Curves everyday, and while I do like walking, I don't think it's quire enough of a workout. So, I'm hoping this will be a happy medium. DH and I are also going to try to alternate days of cooking in and going out for dinner. I really want us to cook in more since it's cheaper and healthier, but being cooped up in the house all day I'm usually desperate to get out by the time DH comes home. Hopefully this compromise will work. Since we went out yesterday, I'm going to do the tortilla soup/chicken salads tonight.

1:15pm

--1 light string cheese
--1 LC beans & rice
--3 carrots
--2-3 tablespoons hummus
--1oz reduced fat chips
--3 prunes

I'm starving! I actually have a headache. I got caught up in comparison shopping for our May cruise. I just found a new TA that saved me $400, plus I got an onboard credit. Yippie!!!

4:30pm

--2 south beach chicken wraps
--1 roll Rolos

The South Beach wraps weren't bad--they were on sale and I had a coupon, so I thought I'd try them out. The Rolos just kind of jumped in my cart at check out :rolleyes1 .

I now have more fruit than I can shake a stick at and all sorts of other good stuff.

Bummer update on my cruise. The TA has now emailed me back saying that they had the wrong price listed. The "correct" price is only about $20 less than what I have now (plus the onboard credit) but I'd be going from oceanview to inside. I emailed them back to see if all of the prices were wrong. I guess the old adage is true--if it's too good to be true it probably isn't. :sad2:

6:00pm

--salad greens, broccoli slaw, cherry tomatoes
--light ranch dressing (maybe 3T?)
--4-5oz grilled chicken breast with barbecue sauce
--3-4T 2% cheddar cheese
--1 cup tortilla soup
--1 1/2 whole wheat pitas (made into pita chips)
--12 oz 1% milk

Oh my goodness did my soup turn out spicy! I don't know if it was from the tomatoes with chilies, the cumin, or the long simmer (probably a perfect storm of all 3) but I couldn't finish it because it was so hot! I cut the leftovers with more broth--hopefully that dilutes it a bit.

DH and I went for a nice long walk and a quick dip in the neighborhood pool. It was a gorgeous night and nice to spend time with him and talk to him. We've been talking a lot about kids lately--it's really a big issue for us. We're not really sure about what to do. We really, really like our life and lifestyle now. It would be very hard to give up. Plus, I like kids, but I'm not sure I want them 24/7. I'm much better at "favorite babysitter". But, we're both afraid we would come to regret not having children, which is really not a good reason to have them. Sometimes I wish I could just snap open a fortune cookie and have it tell me "don't have kids" or something. The decision is the worst part--if I woke up tomorrow and found out I was pregnant or completely infertile, I could live with either of those. It's the not-knowing, middle ground that's tough.

8:45pm

--1 sugar free jello cup

9:00

--2/3 large peach

I bought so much fresh fruit--the peaches are really ripe. The one I ate today is already going soft, and the other one I've got probably won't last past morning. It's been so long since I've had fresh fruit!!!

Hi, Hey about today and the TA when they were going to save you money and you went with it. I would put up a huge fight and get it. TA told you and stated the price and then took it back. I would talk to a supervisor and FIGHT. They have to be very careful and not make any mess up bacause they give themselves a bad rep for it. I am that type of person thought. I am sassy when a person tells me one thing then takes it back. :goodvibes But with that being said you had such a great day it seems to me. I wish I could get out and walk with DH. Have a great day tomarrow. SMILES kardiebelle Oh I forgot about the kids part. If you are not completely sure then don't. You need to be 100% that you want them because it is a very hard thing to do. I have 3 very small children 4,3, and 9.5 months and it is a huge chore. DH works 80 a week and is rarely here. I know that your DH does not have this schedule and you seem very great with children. Don't get me wrong though if you decided that this is right for you and you are 100% then DO IT! I can't believe I just said that! :earseek: I would not changed it for anything. Seeing the kids play (fight) together is the best. First word, step, food, everything is so memorable. I makes me smile just typing it. DH and I talk alot about having another one when I get down to my weight goal. But you have alot to think about when having a child. Do you want more than 1? How far of an age gap? You have to thing about the world and what you will leave your grandchildren with? My DM Dont want us to have anymore because she is afraid for the world. YGood luck with your decisions I know you can do it. SMILES kardiebelle

Pearliq, I'm so glad your kittens are doing better. You've been through a very difficult week. :sad2:

Sounds like you're doing great at Curves. I used to love going there. Thankfully, when I went no one ever doubled up on the machines like that. A couple of times I did an extra "lap". Like you, I didn't like going more than 3X a week so I'd walk, bike or do Denise Austen 2X a week. Those walks & swims with dh will rev up your metabolism. Keep up the great work! :flower:

7/8/05

8:30am

--2 kashi waffles
--3T sugar free syrup
--1 light string cheese
--1 largeish peach

So far, this does not have the makings of a great day. I woke feeling about 90 years old--all sore and stiff. We need a new bed! My computer wouldn't work this morning, I burned my waffles, the waffles are yucky anyway, and I'm waiting for information on one of my work projects and my contact is being less than helpful!

I think I'll move to Austrailia.

1:00pm

--1 6" chicken teriyaki sub
--1 oz rf chips
--1 fresh apricot
--1 plum

Still having technical problems with my work connection, but mercifully I was able to get in and get the critical stuff done. Now I'm just trying to stay motivated to go to Curves later. Fridays are so hard! I just want to go out and play! I just keep telling myself it's only 30 measly little minutes and that I'll feel so much better afterwards! I should probably go sooner rather than later!

3:15pm

--1 LC peanut chicken
--1/2 cup peas

I guess lunch didn't quite do it. Hopefully this holds me until dinner!

6:00pm

--3 chicken wonton cups

I'll have to keep experimenting with these--they have potential but arent' quite what I was looking for. DH is fast asleep--he came home at 4:15, sat down and was out light a light by 5pm. Must have had a long day! I'm glad he's getting a nap, but I'm hungry!

9:30pm

--2 double stack cheeseburgers
--5 chicken nuggets
--1/2 order fries
--1 pkt honey
--1 small frosty

DH finally woke up and I was starving! The hamburgers were good, but next time I think I'll just get one bigger sandwich--less calories and more satisfying.

1:30am

--2 cups multigrain cheerios
--1/4 cup raisins
--2/3 cup 1% milk
--1 chicken wonton cup

Midnight snack. Need to go to bed!

Ooo, take me with you!!! We could go on safari in the Outback...or go surfing on the Gold Coast. ;)

I hope your day picks up; nothing like starting with a couple of frustrations to make the going that much rougher.

Hey, if you want to kick start your walking for a little more cardio, you might consider walking with music. Since I got my mp3 player, I am finding that I can speed up my pace easier and get about the same heart rate as I do at Curves.

Hope you have a good weekend :)

Good evening, Pearlieq! :flower:

Looks like your days have gotten back on track and you have made some great plans with your DH for weight loss goals. :cool1: I think that cooking in every other night will work out really well. I am home all day, but I have children to distract me from the fact that I rarely get out, but there are definitely days when I don't want to cook, clean, or even look at the house. Just get me outta here! (Working from home isn't all that they crack it up to be at times. ;) )

Anyways, you are doing great. As for the kids, I think you guys will figure it out. It is hard when you can see the future both ways and be satisfied with what life gives you, but at some point the answer will come to you. Not all of my children came at opportune moments and there are definite adjustments, but it is amazing that after a short time, you can't imagine life without them. Enjoy your freedom and the time you have with DH now while you can, and if later the picture adds a little one to your life, you will be glad that you took advantages of those opportunities when you could. ;)

Keep up the great work. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

*****forgot to add********
I WANNA GO TO AUSTRALIA! When do you want to go? I can be packed in no time. Let's call it a WISH get-away. :rolleyes1

Good morning, Pearlieq! :sunny:

Hope that you had a wonderful evening last night. Keep on moving and losing today and have an AWESOME weekend. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Hi Pearlieq!

Getting caught up on your journal and sorry to hear about the TA frustration. I know what you mean about fresh fruit, how good is it! I forgot how nice some cold grapes are or the juiciness of a ripe plum. :flower:

What i enjoyed most about your posts is that in the middle of explaing how a day is going completely wrong so far you threw in this line...

I nearly spit out my ice water laughing so hard. hehe! It definitely tickled my funny bone! :rotfl2:

I hope that the weekend is going well for you so far and that the rest of it is amazing!
Mike :goodvibes

7/9/06 - Austraila!!!

10:30am

--1/2 cheese omelet
--2 pieces of bacon
--1 4" pancake with sugar free syrup
--2 pieces Greek toast
--2 pkts jam
--1/2 small chocolate milk

Wow, I'm glad DH and I split this omelet! It was huge! Unfortunately, as soon as the waitress heard we were going to split it, she got pretty snotty. Plus, we had ordered some orange juice, but when I got it it was super duper bitter--they either got too much of the zest or the got a bum orange or two. She was not thrilled with me when I sent it back, but what can you do? At least the food was really, really good. I think I'm set for a while.

I am so up for a trip Down Under! Everyone get packed! Surfing sounds great, Bondi Beach, Uluru, Sydney Harbor Cruise. Pack well, we could be gone a while :teeth:

One of my neighbors is having a Mary Kay party this afternoon. I'm going, but it is my very last home party! I've started telling people that I won't be going to any more "parties" and it feels great! I've already turned down 3 this week! After the "party" I'll have a little time to myself, then I'll be meeting my mom for dinner and a play. The community college where she works is doing The Trip to Bountiful, which is one of my mom's favorite movies. I'm just happy to be doing something a little different tonight. DH is not going, and unfortunately I won't get to see too much of him this weekend because he's going to a White Sox game tomorrow with one of his vendors. Next weekend he's going back home to Ohio (without me, mercifully. MIL and I aren't exactly buddies...) so I'll have to savor the time we can find!

Oh, I almost forgot! Update to the TA situation--I never heard back from the first one (icruise.com, for those playing along at home) but our very own Barb (I think she goes by Inkkognito) of Castaway Club fame got me a great group rate on the same sailing. It was only about $80 more than the "too good to be true" rate. So, all's well that ends well.

Also, I think the kitties are pretty much recovered. Magellan still has a few more days worth of Amoxil, but they both seem happy and healthy and no one's gotten sick since last Sunday!

2:15pm

--1/2 cup mixed fruit
--1 t. veggie dip
--6 grape tomatoes
--7 baby carrots
--1 celery stick
--1" square oatmeal chocolate bar
--1 fun size Milky Way

Well, the Mary Kay party bordered on the ridiculous, but it was nice to see one of the girls who used to go to Curves with us. Plus, I found a lip gloss that was a nice berry--just like my actual lip color but about 3x more intense. It's perfect, so I coughed up the $13 for a tube. Yikes! I usually wear makeup about once a month, so this was a big step for me. :teeth:

5:00pm

--1 fun size Snickers

A leftover from the party.

6:00pm

--1 crab rangoon
--2 1/2 cups pad thai
--1 almond cookie
--1 fortune cookie

The pad thai was really good. I ate more than I intended, but I can live with that. The play was very well acted. I was really impressed with their work, and my mom was in a pretty good mood, so it made for a very pleasant evening.

12:30am

--1/2 medium cheese pizza
--12oz 1% milk

OK, why are the idiots still going with the fireworks?!?

The coolest thing happened today. DH checked the mail while I was out and there was a check for several hundred dollars from our state!!! Apparently there was some kind of overpayment/correction with our 2003 taxes. In theory I should be a little ticked that the state had an interest-free loan of our money for 2 years, but I'm just stoked!!!

Good morning Pearlieq! :cool1:

Looks like you had a great day yesterday. I will have to agree with you on the Mary Kay party. Been to one and that was enough. Unfortunately, the state doesn't like to pay interest, but they sure don't waste time in collecting it. :rotfl2: Well, you can look at it as a WDW bonus and have even more fun next time.

Hope today goes well for you. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

7/10/05

11:00am

--1 1/2 cups organic peanut butter cereal
--1 banana
--2/3 cup milk
--1 1/2 cups cheese popcorn

I killed some time yesterday at Trader Joe's. I found this organic peanut butter cereal that's just like something DH used to eat before we found out about his diabetes. This one is only lightly sweetened by cane juice, so I thought it would a nice treat for him. It's really tasty!

I'm watching the new Bill Nye show, The Eye of Nye. It's really really good. I've always admired Bill Nye's work and his ability to make science accesable and entertaining.

3:00pm

--1 chicken wonton cup
--1 LC beans & rice
--1 PB&J on a whole wheat english muffin
--2 cups cheese popcorn
--1 peach

My day got all thrown off, but I had a pretty good time. I spend a very quiet day in, mostly reading and relaxing. I had to fight the urge to go out just for the sake of leaving the house.

6:00pm

--1 brownie

I had a hugely overwhelming need for chocolate yesterday, so I tried Alton Brown's cocoa brownies recipe. They're pretty darn good--a more "grown up" flavor--strong, dark, just slightly bitter. The texture is darn near perfect. I think next time I'm going to try it with melted chocolate, or a blend of chocolate and cooca. Doing it with 100% cocoa was just a bit too strong.

The nice thing about these is that they feel substantial and high-quality, so I'm satisfied with one, rather than needing to eat the whole pan right away.

8:45pm

--1 cup potato soup topped with cheese, bacon bits, and onions
--1 cheeseburger
--a few fries (I left about 3/4 of the fries behind)

I really wanted a cheeseburger last night, and this one was pretty disappointing. It was overcooked and not very good quality. I'll have to look for something better next time I need a cheeseburger fix.

Hi Pearlieq,

Glad to hear the kitties are almost all better and very cool news about the cruise update. I got a similar check from my employer last fall when our HR dept realized they had underpaid me for a year and a half, I was first irked and then thrilled! hehe

Sounds like you are having a good weekend. The cereal sounds yummy!! And Bill Nye is very cool, of course he makes me long for being in the Universe of Energy pavillion at EPCOT!

Have a happy & healthy Sunday night!
Mike :goodvibes
