A scooter because of heel spurs ???

This past early December I was at WDW for my 6th annual SOLO trip.
I was in miserable pain because of bursitis in my right hip, and
a thing called "Plantar Fasciitis", commonly called heel spurs. I am still
having problems with my feet, but I think it might be getting better.
I still did most of the things that I wanted to do at WDW, but I had so many bouts of crying and depression, because this kind of pain disrupted my beloved annual SOLO trip. I guess I'm just getting older. ( 52 )

I have always used my Disney trip as something to look forward to when times get tough. I still need that thought that my Disney trip is a reality.
I am planning on January 21st, 2007, for 5 nights.

Please tell me ..... How does a person even get a scooter ? I am very new
to ANY disabilities that would keep me from walking. What if I am fine in the beginning of a park day, and then in the middle of the day I cannot walk anymore? Will I be able to get a scooter in the middle of the day? How much is this - and when and where do I give the scooter back ?
It is a difficult thing to be SOLO, and suddenly not be able to walk anymore.

I have no idea about these things. Can you help ? Thanks !

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it waill take you to the Index. The second item down is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information, including where people rent ECVs.

If you rent in the parks at that time of year there should be no problem at all in renting a scooter, even in mid-day. The rentals are at the four majhor parks inside and close to the entrances (including Epcot's International Gateway). You turn the scooter back in at the same place you rented it.

However, you are probably much better off, both financially and for comfort, renting from an off-site vendor.

Your story sounds so familiar! I lived like that in pain at WDW until I went to the podiatrist and got inserts for my shoes. No more heel pain! It was like a miracle!

Thanks for the advice ! I now have better padding under my arches.
I have been stretching and stretching .... I still feel that I am practically
disabled, and I went through a lot of feeling sorry for myself. It is a bit better. I stretch my feet and calves while they are warm, and then I ice my feet right after that. The ice is really helping a lot. I'm using those blue gel flexible ices. However, as I talk to other people about this ..... thing ....
I find that most of these people have recovered without surgery. It does upset me though, that I cannot turn up my favorite 1950's music and dance in my dining room anymore ! I guess I won't take simple walking for granted
anymore !

I agree that at that time in January, you should not have much problem with getting an ecv.
Hope you have a good trip.
