I think it fits. Recently, I was talking to a DVC sales person about the new GFVII. I asked her why the new studios will be having beverage coolers instead of mini-fridges and actually what IS the difference between beverage coolers and mini-fridges. Without missing a beat, she told me that the only reason they changed the name was that calling them min-fridges might imply to their members that they (the members) were getting a freezer section. Since the current cooling devices are just refrigerators with no freezer section, DVC decided it was a better idea to name them "beverage coolers". Now doesn't everyone feel so much better now that you've had the real story? No, neither do I.

This has almost nothing to do with DVC. Every room refurb over the last 5+ years has switched to these beverage coolers. It's the industry standard.

Still don't care, still love the new style of room. I'm not doing any cooking, and I don't care if there's a fridge or a microwave or a beverage cooler. I'm sure they'll have some for formula and medicine, like hotels do.
Girl, same.

Sometimes I do feel like cooking. And those times I'm staying in a 1br/2br villa or a Ft. Wilderness Cabin. Ain't nobody cooking in that kitchenette with a microwave and a slightly more powerful refrigerator.

That’s interesting. Sorry people are snarking at you for trying to be helpful.

As long as milk will stay cold enough to not spoil I’m ok with whatever they want to call it. The little freezer sections on the tiny fridges aren’t very good anyway and are probably a hassle because of having to be defrosted.

Are these cold enough to keep milk safely? This is something I’ve been wondering about.
They are as long as they’re working correctly, which can be hard to judge when you first walk into a hotel room. I bring insulin and have had to request room changes for broken refrigerators before

The big question is whether the "beverage cooler" runs at the same temperature as a "mini-fridge." There have been threads about this in the past.

Thanks for sharing and that does make sense. Again, those little freezers never seemed to work well anyway...though, to be honest, we only used them once over the years and because it did not, never did again.

I am fine as long as there is something to keep things cold. I don't want my adult seltzers with ice!! LOL

Owner's Locker can make a small fortune renting out small microwave ovens, assuming the power in the room could handle it.

I wondered this also, but she seemed to me to imply that all was the same except the lack of freezer.

I’m not sure Disney would allow that, honestly.

The nice thing about simply keeping a microwave in your owners locker is that it doesn’t take up as much space as it looks like it does because you can fill up the microwave with stuff before you put it in.

I just don't know why they don't want freezers in hotel rooms or DVC studios. We almost always head to a store. While at stores we tend to buy wild and crazy things like ice cream bars that have ingredients that are less bad for certain members of our group than the stuff available at Disney. Those are lovely to have. But they don't work without a freezer.

I believe you answered your own question, how does Disney make any $$$ if you are buying frozen treats from Publix?

They have an entire section of frozen items in the store of each DVC resort (waffles, burritos, ice cream, microwave meals). Silly to think no one in the studios wants any of those items either.

I own at VGF but don't think I can stay for more than a night or 2 in the new studios at VGF2, we rely on frozen/refrigerated/microwaved items for a meal each day (usually a breakfast or lunch) to help offset the high cost of the vacation and to save a little time.

I think it is more related to maintenance issues than any initiative to push food purchases to Disney.

The hotel side has beverage coolers. They are not cold enough to keep perishables in, they just keep beverages cool.

If these are just “rebranded” mini-fridges, that’s one thing…but a completely different product is another.

I guess we will know more once people stay in the rooms. Beverage coolers have clear glass doors so you can see the drinks inside.
