A Rolex Vacation on a Timex Budget: Sept '11 PTR (TR is Live!)

I felt the effects of the earthquake this afternoon at around 2pm here in the Toronto area. It felt like the floor in my office building was wobbling like it was made out of rubber. It was really cool but really scary at the same time! Glad you are okay!!!! You poor thing.... just another thing to worry about!

OMG, we felt the Earthquake at work, and I live in CT! :scared1: It was so weird, the building just started shaking for a minute, and everyone was like "was that an earthquake?"

I happened to be standing in my husband's office when it started. First thought, "earthquake?" then of course, in our area, we think potential terrorist attack...THEN the second wave hit and there was no question what it was. I was holding onto the doorjamb looking at my husband with that "what now?" look. Sounds like people felt it all up and down the coast.

Actually, it's taken my mind off everything else! Shame it took an earthquake to distract me but.....:lmao:

We had minor damage. Drawers open, pictures crooked, pots fell off shelves, and our kitchen light came out of the ceiling. Other than that, we seem to be OK. I'm going to post a few pics in a minute.

So... outside in our hallway...

Hi I been reading your ptr for last three weeks. Sorry it took so long to catch up. First off want to say I love your plans. You have a great writing style. Sorry to hear about your Dad. Your going to have a blast doing this trip to honor him by remembering what a great daughter you have become. I'm sure he is very proud to be your dad. As for your health problems it seems to be one thing on top of another. Hope your visit with your doc clears up what is wrong so they can treat it. I had different problems a year or so ago then one small thing came up and everything went away. I think as for Disney they need to read this ptr and rethink your private dinner in the park and show you the true Disney Magic. Girl you deserve it with this last year. I feel like there was more I want to say just not sure what. Can't wait to hear the rest.
Sandy

Oh no am sorry to hear about the earthquake but am glad that you, DH and the cats are all safe. Hope the damage to your house can be fixed. Keep safe

I was thinking about you this afternoon...with the eathquake and being in Virginia....glad everyone is ok...a few people in my office felt it up here in MA, but I didn't :confused3 and a co-worker has a son in New Hampshire and he felt it as well...
so I can only imagine how strong it was for you....

hope you get good news at the Dr's tomorrow....sending pixiedust: your way

Wow!!! Now this!?!

Sorry about the damage and the anxious cats (how are they doing now?). Glad you are ok, though and that there doesn't seem to be major earthquake damage.

I did not feel the shaking, but my husband did. He works in Cambridge MA.

Glad you're all ok. Hopefully the damage is minimal and can be easily fixed. Who would've ever thought there'd be an earthquake on the East coast?!

Sheesh, an hour ago we had a pretty decent aftershock (4.2) but barely felt it. I'm hoping things stay quiet overnight... but at least the only thing we have to worry about falling on us are a few little stuffed Disney beanbag characters! :goodvibes

Thank you all so much for your thoughts...as much as I am making fun of it a bit, we do live on the fourth floor of our building, so things like this are pretty nerve wracking.

However, I will tell you all of my moment today when I jumped under my husband's desk in fear. I don't think I'm going to live that one down...that will come tomorrow, hopefully shake-free!:thumbsup2

Omigoodness, so glad you guys are ok  Hope the furbabies aren't too ruffled.

That damage doesn't look too bad, but keep an eye on it :)

Thank you, Sandy! The doctor's appointment yesterday was good just in the sense that we figured out what WASN'T wrong... if that makes any logical sense. :lmao: We're giving an antibiotic course a go to see if maybe it's some bacterial infection, and hoping for the best. Luckily, the only thing that showed up on the MRI was something we were already aware of (a growth on my pineal gland....which isn't operable anyway and only affects my sleep cycles...) so there was a BIG sigh of relief once we got those results back.

I guess Disney has to run a business same as everyone... I'm just happy we're going on this amazing trip, and spending some hard earned time off celebrating our marriage, and my dad's amazing gift of introducing me to Disney all those years ago. :goodvibes

Thanks, sweetie! Things are calming down now, the aftershocks are so minor, the one that woke me up last night I didnt even realize what it was until I heard the news this morning! Perhaps I'm ready for California living afterall.... hmm...actually....no, no I'm not.;)

Thank you! They are coming to inspect our building today, I think... so everything seems to be fine! Quite a scary day, though, no matter what!

Wow!!! Now this!?!

Sorry about the damage and the anxious cats (how are they doing now?). Glad you are ok, though and that there doesn't seem to be major earthquake damage.

I did not feel the shaking, but my husband did. He works in Cambridge MA.

I am starting to feel like a Disney commercial, but a twisted version. "You've survived losing your dad, multiple sugeries, month long cases of hives, earthquakes, and hurricanes! What are you going to do next?"

"Why, I'm going to Disney World!"

It works, in a strange way.....:rotfl2:

Kitties are fine, but the aftershock last night had them under the covers with me.... poor little babies, I hope it doesn't happen again or I may need to send them to a kitty shrink!

Glad you're all ok. Hopefully the damage is minimal and can be easily fixed. Who would've ever thought there'd be an earthquake on the East coast?!

The little tremor we had, oh, about two years ago, that was my idea of an east coast earthquake. I know have a totally different opinion of them! We're all really bummed about the buildings / monumnents that did see damage (Washington Monument, National Cathedra, Smithsonian Castle) but hopefully it can all be fixed, and we have to remind ourselves, it could be worse.

As it is we're preparing for the hurricane now.... not for a massive storm, but making sure we get our groceries BEFORE tomorrow, when everyone in the DC / Northern Virginia area will buy out all the toilet paper, milk, and beer in the stores. It's tradition. :rotfl:

My only real concern at this point is massive wind and rain (probably all we will get, nothing major) showing more damage the earthquake left that we weren't aware of.

Mike and I are planning a Phineas and Ferb Netflix marathon this rainy weekend, along with packing, of course!:goodvibes

Glad to hear you are okay after the earthquake.

Thank you!!!

Omigoodness, so glad you guys are ok  Hope the furbabies aren't too ruffled.

That damage doesn't look too bad, but keep an eye on it :)

We are, I'll be watching our skylights this weekend with all the rain expected, buckets ready just in case :)

Furbabies are mostly ok, though Bailey has taken it upon herself to blame me for the 'quake, insisting I feed her more soft cat food to make up for it.;)

And now, the story I promised you all:

So, Mike and I currently work at the same company, even on the same floor. I just happened to be in his office when the quake started, which is kind of funny, since I hardly see him at all when we're at work!

Standing in his doorway, the first thing I think is "construction", followed quickly by "uh oh"... then the second (and stronger) shaking started, and I looked at Mike, said "Get under your desk NOW"....

.....then proceeded to push him aside to get under his desk myself.

I am never going to live that down....:rotfl2:

I didn't feel the earthquake here in Richmond, all of my family and friends did! I didnt even feel the aftershocks :confused3

Day 5, our trip is now half over…or half starting, depending on how you look at it! :hippie:

This is a day I’m really excited about, because this is our “park free” day. We’re both been though a lot lately, so one of my must-do plans for Disney was a bit of pampering. So on this day, we’ll wake up to a nice cup of coffee, then we’re calling a cab, putting on some comfy clothes, and heading over to…..

:cool1:The Grand Floridian Spa!!!:cool1:

One of the first things we planned was a day at the spa! We’ll start with sugar scrubs, an 80 minute couples massage, then a nice lunch provided by the spa! After that, we’re getting mani/pedis (yes, my DH actually likes pedicures, though without polish, obvs.:lmao:)

After such relaxation, we’re free for the rest of the day. We might do a little resort touring on the monorail, or head back to the YC and spend a nice long afternoon at SAB. It really depends on the weather, but I’m hoping to get a few hours out there by the water with a good book! I deliberately only bought 8 day passes to Disney, not 9, so we would be forced to stay park free for a day.

Hopefully I’ll get some time on the lazy river floats, and get to try a signature cocktail at Hurricane Hanna’s….. Does anyone have any recommendations on the best drink to try at SAB?:confused3

The only other plans we have is a late dinner at the Yachtman Steakhouse. We’ll either turn in for an early night, or see if we can catch any fireworks from our room. We’ll be right back into the thick of things the next day, so we’ll need the rest, I am sure!
:cutie:

Lol I love the 'under the desk story!' Am sure that will come back to haunt you many times in the future :rotfl:

Yay on having a relaxing day away from the parks - have two of them planned and can't wait. I'm also looking forward to enjoying reading a book near the pool at some point during our trip.

I love park free days. I'd love 'em even more with a day at the spa :lmao: Sounds like a very nice relaxing day. It'll give you a chance to enjoy YC too.

:rotfl: I love it :rotfl:

That's exactly what I'm hoping to have on my next family trip to WDW... a park-free day. The past 2 trips have been Sunday to Saturday, with those 2 days for travel... meaning we've had 5 days to get all the parks done. Next trip, I'm hoping for a longer stay... especially if we can swing a Deluxe! I would definitely want a chance to relax at the resort!

Your spa day sounds absolutely fabulous!

Oops forgot to say your spa day sounds wonderful. The couples massage is awesome and so relaxing and the sugar scrub sounds like it will be amazing :)

So, right after I posted our Spa Day plans, the GF Spa called me to say they were closing their doors due to construction the day before our appointment. Whoops. :lmao:

Thankfully, they moved us to the Spa at Saratoga Springs, which I have heard is a bit nicer anyway. The Director who called me was very nice, and I really feel bad for him, he's got to make TONS of calls to cancel / move all appointments. Wouldn't want to be him, that's for certain.

Other than that, Happy Friday, everyone!:cool1: We've only got 22 days to go now, and one hurricane to ride through... what a week. :lmao:

Our poor neighbor next door had damage to her bathroom pipes from the earthquake earlier this week that she didn't notice (slow leak) which yesterday flooded her condo as well as the person beneath her! Poor thing :( Mike and I checked again for any damage in our place, but all seems to be fine. We decided to have a tupperware bin ready to go with our important documents, etc in it for this weekend, just in case Irene's 45MPH+ winds here in our area of VA decides to open up our roof! :goodvibes

Going to share a few little extras I've decided to do on our trip today, that I'm really excited about!:thumbsup2
