Uncleromulus dosen't ordinarily review breakfast, as mainly there isn't whole lot to say about bacon, eggs and pancakes. But thanks to some previous posts about Fresh, Mrs. U and I decided to give it a whirl this trip. We liked it so much I thought I'd make an exception and tell about our excellent breakfast there.
It's a fairly good sized place in the Dolphin--down the hall from the Blue Zoo in fact. It's actually a breakfast buffet, but it showcases the "Fresh" making of eggs, omlettes, french toast, etc. Upon seating, you'll be asked about coffee (they feature Starbucks) and fresh OJ--then invited up to the cooking area for your food.
They do have fruit, cereal, bagels, buns, ete etc and also offer some specialty juices that are fresh made. This morning that had an "anti-oxident" juice, which had blueberrys, watermelon, bannana, and several other fruits. It was excellent--so much so that Uncleromulus is now looking into a juicer (any recommendations??) Also available are bacon, sausage (they had parsley/romano sausage that day, and it was good!) along with breakfast potatoes.
But the main action is at the omlette cooking station. There they have carved meats (that day, turkey and Rosemary ham) and there they prepare the omlettes, etc. There are about 4-6 chefs on duty--they ask what you want, then make it. Eggs over, sunnyside up, omlette, etc .For me an omlette with ham, bacon, sausage, onion and cheese. They take the ham, bacon, sausage, and onion and put it in a skillet. Add a little oil, then heat it over open flame. Then they add the egg mixture from a large pot--about the equivilent of three-eggs worth. Mix it up, add the cheese, give it a flip and presto . A fine omlette.
For Mrs U it was the pancakes of the day--with cookie dough batter. Again fresh made and excellent.
Of course it's all you care to eat and you can go for seconds or thirds. The only drawback to it all would be if it got very very crowded. There are just so many omlettes that even 5 cooks can cook at once, so it's possible that you may have to wait a bit if they are very busy. We didn't wait at all, even tho the place was about 3/4 full. But I could see it happening, so thought I should make mention.
A word also about our server, Debra. She was nice enough to mention that they also had toast -- it isn't available at the bread station, but could be brought to the table. I like toast and asked for some. Came right to the table shortly after, already buttered. And then later, when Mrs U went up for a second glass of "anti-oxident" juice, they had run out and were making it new. She just casually mentioned it to Debra, who then watched for the new batch, brought Mrs. U a glass right to the table, and then gave her a small box of chocolates for having to wait!! Nice touch and much appreciated.
No doubt about it--we'll be doing Fresh again on our May 2005 trip!!
