A relaxing swim?

Mini rant alert.....Ok, so am I the only one who doesn't find swimming relaxing? It seems like everyone who goes back to the resort for a mid day break heads to the pool. The last thing I want to do after spending the day outside at MK is to go back to my room, get everyone in bathing suits, go back outside in the heat and spend time in the pool, go back to the room and "de-pool" everyone, then get dressed and head back out to a park for the evening. I'm not the only one, am I? end rant/

My DS loved the water so much when he was young it was always a nice way to get him to burn off some energy and help with the afternoon tantrums. Now we go to the quiet pool and just relax.

It is just me and DH and no we don't go back to the pool. I agree with you to much trouble. However when the kids were younger we would always go back to the pool. We don't have a pool at home so this was a treat for them and they loved it. We used to go in the summer so a swim and a short nap made for a nice evening in the parks.

If it were up to me we would skip the pool and just relax, which we do sometimes, but if DD has been looking forward to a swim then we do that first. I agree that with little ones it can be a lot of extra work for mom!

I tend to agree with you. When you are spending thousands of dollars for a trip to Disney, the last thing I want to do is waste time riding buses, changing clothes multiple times per day and taking multiple showers per day. So we generally don't do it, but we go in November when the temperatures normally aren't stifling and the lines aren't that long and the parks close somewhat early. Plus, I think where you are staying and what park you are visiting makes a huge difference here as well. I can see doing this on a night that Epcot is open late and you are staying at the Beach Club. Or MK and the Contemporary or GF. But I'd never leave the MK, go back to the Beach Club, then back to the MK again. Too much time wasted with transportation. For us the second thing we do in a day is usually the last (i.e. if we swim first, then go to the parks we don't come back and swim and vice versa).

Swimming is important to my kids. We went to the pool 3 times in a week long trip plus Blizzard Beach. I could skip the pool, but they love it. It does wear them out though which is why I don't let them go every day. One day DS was acting crabby & generally being a pill all morning due to being overtired from a big day with swimming the day before. He went back to the room with some of the family and they texted me that he wanted to swim. I was the mean Mom and said no. When I got back I told him when he acts like that he doesn't get to go swimming, he gets to rest. He tried really hard to not act like that again the rest of the trip.

We don't go to the pool.....I can do that at home.
Unless......DGD is with us and then we will go for a few minutes.

Yes, I find it kind of a pain, too. The only time we used the pool with any regularity was on one trip to CSR and our room was literally about 12 steps from a quiet pool and maybe 3 minutes to the main pool. We went more than once that week, but many times our pool bag doesn't even come out of the van. We swim often at home so it's not a novelty for us.

As Tonka's Skipper stated earlier. To each his/her own:

But over the years touring definitely has changed.

When we first toured , we went commando from morning to night. Before the kids were here, and also when they were real young. We tried to cram everything in as possible...Didn't want to miss things , per se. Also , ( Not that this matters, but kinda ) We stayed value then.

We were so wrong...The kids and adults definitely do better w/ a break from the hustle bustle..Even when we come back to the Main pool & it's crowded, it's still very relaxing for me. It's not whiney kids anymore, or crying kids, but rather loud laughing and playing , which is actually ok with me. Also , this was one time at a value, but then we went to mods. & now DVC. So Yes the pools and grounds are much more elaborate ( which Helps I'm sure ).

I'd say try out the quiet pool, to really relax, for it'll be just that QUIET. I don't prefer the quiet pool , but that's me.

I'm with you. I try to minimize the swimming. My kids swim all summer at daycamp and then during the school year they swim at least once a week at the Y. So there is no shortage of swimming around here :)

First up, when we go, prime swim time is usually when there is a lightning storm going on, so the pools are closed. We've gotten to the point where we schedule a morning to swim because we will go so many days without being able to fit it in.

I know the kids love it, but it does create a lot of work (wet suits, showers after).

We either go to RD and go as long as we can and then try to swim later on in the day or we go to the parks later and stay later. Breaks have never worked for us.

Disney trips for us at least aren't all about the parks anymore.....

It's the resorts, the activities, the restaurants, Yes the parks too.

When we stay at AKL/V you really get submersed in the resort....Both times we went , it was almost like 2 vacations within a vacation. Because when you come back from the park, you kinda forget where you are.

I'm sure other deluxes or Villas give you guys the same feel. Also Community Hall is a good way to break up the time, and keep them busy as well...Just sayin.:confused3

No you are not. Swimming for 2 hours will wear DGD out more than walking in the park for 8.
But it does relax me. Because I just get in the water and relax, sit if I can in a zero entry pool.
We do use the pool in the summer because we do leave the parks for a few hours each day. Some days we nap but others we get in the pool for a while. I know my old bones like the weightlessness of the water.
We don't plan in water time specifically. We have a pool membership at home so we get in tons of pool time.
If we go to Disney when it's not hot we don't bother with the pools at all.

Swimming isn't a "break" activity for us. It wipes us out. If we go back for a swim we don't go back to parks.

And it's not small "quiet" pool vs feature pool thing, it's what the op described. Takes time to get there and ready then reverse the process. And the actual time in the water is exhausting.

Depends on your situation I guess :) it's just me and DBF, we have a car so we are on our own time, and stay at CBR. There are MAYBE three to four people in the pool every afternoon.. Not the main pool.. That's packed with families. But each "house" has an individual pool and those are quiet and relaxing. For us right now it's great on a scorching hot august afternoon to relax by the pool for a few hours in between parks. Now when we have kids... That might be a different story :)

Well, if you can grab a float and lounge in the pool then it IS relaxing. Pooling and de-pooling in a rush and swimming, not so much :/

When in WDW, We're all on DISNEY TIME....So the 10 minute bus ride/ and or 5 minute walk from bus to room, & 10 min room time to get things ready, & the 5 minute walk to the pool.....To me this is better than waiting in line to go on 7DMT for the 2nd time for 90 mins... While evryone is hot, cranky, & tired.:confused3

Like I said earlier: To Each his/Her own.

We do not take an afternoon pool break every day but we do it occasionally.

On our 1st trip we tried to force our kids to nap or at least rest in the room during afternoon breaks but they could not do it - they were just too excited and happy. And they kept my wife up who really wanted to nap.

Now we take a kind of divide and conquer approach. We go back to the room, my wife gets the kids ready to swim, I take them to the pool while she naps, and then she transitions the back out of pool gear.

The kids are happy because they love the pool and my wife is happy because she gets an afternoon nap and it makes our evenings at the parks more relaxed.
