Can I throw a chicken to cook in my crock tomorrow? An oven stuffer chicken? What do I cook it in if I can, do I have to brown or it or anything or just defrost?? Do I cook it on high or low?

most crockpot recipes don't suggest doing whole chicken, something about the temp not getting high enough to cook it evenly and thoroughly. Try doing a search for crock pot whole chicken and see what you can find.

Good luck!!

Otherwise, you can defrost the bird, put it in the oven on 375 for about 2 hours. You can put it in a broiler pan or a cake pan if you don't have one. Sprinkle Good Seasons Italian Dressing Mix over him, cover with foil and it will be yummy!! Take the foil off 15 minutes before it's done and drain the fat/juice. YOu don't need to add water or anything.

Happy cooking!

You don't even have to defrost, just toss that chicken in there. The skin will not get crispy, it will be gummy and inedible, but the chicken will be so tender and juicy you will not believe it. I cook mine on low, 8-9 hours does the trick. Pop it in before I leave for work, come home, make some instant mashed, open up a bag of salad and dinner is on the table!

Yes, chicken can be done in the crockpot. Definitely thaw it before cooking. I've never done a whole chicken but I do have a few recipes for doing one in a crockpot and some suggest browning the chicken in a few tablespoons of oil in a frying pan prior to putting it in the crockpot others have you season the bird and put it in the pot.

As far as the temperature is concerned, that would also depend on the recipe. Cheaper cuts of meat are more tender if they are cooked slowly. That would mean using a low temperature.

Here's a website with lots of crockpot recipes for chicken:

Thanks-- I changed my mind, I'm doing the easy crockpot pot roast instead -

roast
one can of cola
one envelope Lipton onion soup mix

It makes a great roast and au just gravy for the mashed pots.
