Household 6 and I want to thank all of you for your prompt, thorough and thoughtful replies to my many questions. We have approximately ZERO experience with DVC; your input has helped us immensely in weighing the many questions associated with an investment like this.

Speaking of questions...we've determined these are the time periods where we'd most like to visit Disney. Are they bad months for using the DVC resorts? I.e., is it hard to get DVC rooms at these times?
  • Anytime in January---with the exception of the MLK weekend
  • First two weeks of February---before the President's Day weekend
  • First two weeks of November

Thanks again...:)

Early November can be "iffy" depending upon resort and the EPCOT Food & Wine Fest. Remember that any points based timeshares are optimally designed for high occupancy rates year round, so it is always best to book your reservations as early as possible.

[*]Anytime in January---with the exception of the MLK weekend

First few days of Jan--a lot of times depending on how the calendar falls, kids are still on Christmas vacation.
Marathon weekend--generally the second weekend in Jan. (in 2010 it will Jan 9th and 10th and there is a a health fair which starts on the Thurs prior)
Last week of Jan--a lot of east coast schools get a 2 day winter break.

Also, depending on where the Superbowl is held, there could be an increase.
[*]First two weeks of November

OCT 31st (Halloween).
First week of Nov--generally "Jersey" week.
Plus, a lot of other east coast schools get the Mon/Tues associated with election day off.
Food and Wine still going on.
Nov 11th--Veterans Day holiday.

"Household 6" haven't heard that one in a while, must be an Army soldier or Marine! :rotfl2:

Generally you will be ok if you can plan ahead 11 months and book at your Home resort accordingly.

That being said I've had plenty of luck at the 7 month mark as well as inside of the 7 month mark.

I've heard a lot of talk about the difficulties around Food and Wine but was able to get Beach Club at 5 months. Thankingsgiving, Christmas, and Spring break are the most busy and require the most planning.

You have gotten good advice in the previous posts, but I would like to say that as long as you can book between 11 and 7 months ahead, you will usually not have any trouble at all. If you are planning on booking mostly after the 7 month mark, there will be certain times, certain resorts, and certain booking catagories that will be difficult or impossilbe. Of course, if you can book at the 11 month booking window....you should have no problems at all except with things like GVs, CL, standard BWV, etc. etc.

Actually MLK weekend has had some pretty interesting pickings at 7 months. We got a BW view BWV 2br this year and the only type of 2br that wasn't available was AKV CL.

Last yr we got BCV 2br for MLK weekend. My kids get a 4 day MLK weekend and we head down on a late pm flight on that Thursday.

This year I couldn't believe how uncrowded the parks were!

Though I do book my home resort at 11 months, then switch over at the 7 month mark.

First week of May is nice if you could swing it.
