My future SIL served in Iraq and much to my DD's relief came home safely. He served his 3 years. Now has a full time job, a sweet baby daughter and a wedding in 4 weeks. My DD was over yesterday and with tears told me he received a letter to report downtown for testing. He may be sent back!!!!:confused3

I am confused what exactly is this????

I'm not sure what it is called, but I know on many contracts it has that they can be called back for duty. Sorry to hear your family is going through this.

I believe after they get out they are still considered in the "ready reserve" which means that for a certain period of time they can be called back to duty.

He can be called back up to serve again whether he is NCS (National Call to Service), Ready Reserves, Select Reserves, active duty or just what most people know as the plain ole reserves. One of mine and DH's good friends has served 3 tours of Iraq/Afaghanistan. 1 he volunteered for and the other 2 he was told to go. It's such a tough situation to be in, and at times the military is very unkind to their servicemembers and the servicemembers families. We're experiencing this ourselves as DH is leaving active duty and going into the reserves. All your FSIL can do is go and serve, and hopefully all this will be over soon. Please tell your DD and FSIL THANK YOU for serving. She serves just as much as he does. As a Navy wife myself, there is nothing harder than watching your DH leave as you stay behind with a young child. It's hard, but I have NEVER felt more proud than when I watched his ship come back into port after being gone 6 months with only 2 phone calls and letters. So please tell them THANK YOU for fighting for me and my family.

I know I'm late to the game with this but your SIL needs to look at the contract he signed. Most standard army contracts are for 7 years which can be served in any form whether it's the 3-4 years active duty and then the rest in reserves or however. If there are any years left after he leaves active duty, then he is reserves, which means he can be called back to active duty at any time. Make sure he looks at the originial contract he signed to see if he did sign for the 7 years.
