I grew up in the south (FL to be exact) and I am craving boiled peanuts! I have went to every grocery store locally and NO ONE has ever even heard of boiled peanuts! Is this a southern thing and northeners don't have these?? I mean, they don't even have the green peanuts for me to make my own!

I never heard of them either. Perhaps someone from the south can guide to a place to order them online?

Isn't it funny when we leave an area, it's the food we tend to miss the most.

I grew up in the North and lived for several years in the South and know exactly what you are talking about. You will not find boiled peanuts ANYWHERE up north, but if you look up local whole foods/natural food stores, you should be able to find raw peanuts that way. All else fails, you can mail order raw peanuts thru the internet.

I have heard of boiled peanuts but have never seen them in stores here in the northeast.

I grew up in the South and love boiled peanuts. I can find canned boiled peanuts here in Virginia, but that is it. :crazy2: I found a grocery store that sells raw green peanuts and I make my own. I usually have to cook them for over 24 hrs to get them close to being the way they are supposed to. It is kind of hard to recreate cooking them in a big drum. I usually just try to satsify my craving when I go and visit my family down there.

I have always wondered if I can find some close to WDW? Does anybody know?

Hey!! Im originally from upNorth but I now live in south florida!!! I know what boiled peanuts are!! do you want me to send you some??? Send me the address and I will!!:)

Since peanuts are not grown in the north, I am guessing you wont find them because they would be difficult to transport in the green state without spoiling.

If ya'll see a sign that advertises Steve's Infamous Boiled Peanuts when you're in FL you have got to try them. They are the best! My mom sends me the canned boiled peanuts (GROSS!!!) but they are just not the same. Sometimes I feel like we moved to a foreign country instead of NY. Besides the language barriers they don't have any of the food I love. Imatations of southern cooking up here do not compare to the real thing if you grew up with it. Also does no one up here eat salt on their watermelon?! One of my new friends thinks it's weird! LOL.

I love boiled peanuts, but you won't find any around Pittsburgh. I have family in the South and they got me to try them.

I have a friend whose mother lives in Columbia SC. When she goes down for a visit she always brings back peanuts for us.:D

I have seen many people eat salt on watermelon. Personally however, I rarely salt anything. Fries is about the only thing off the top of my head that I salt.

I love salting my watermelon. It seems to get them juicier! Nothing better than a hot summer day and a cold slice of juicy salted watermelon. YUMMY!

I also love to salt my watermelon! ::yes::

Edit: I just looked at the boiledpeanuts.com site.

I want the I brake for boiled peanuts bumper sticker! :teeth:

Didn't we recently do salted watermelon on another thread? :hyper: I salted it for years as a kid. Have now eaten it plain for years. ;)

Sorry...no boiled peanuts here. But I'm from NJ and lived in FL 15 years. I can honestly say that I cursed out the food stores on every trip because they didn't have the same things they did up north. LOL!

I had never heard of them until we moved here. You can go to http://www.gritlit.com/FoodsL-R/g406.html and order some!

Good luck!

I have never heard of boiled peanuts or salted watermelon!!!
And I'm LOL about the "language barrier" in Upstate NY!

I love them boiled peanuts!! I live in Michigan (but not for very long!). My dad boils peanuts, once in a great while. As far as where he gets them, I have no idea.

I think my dad learned this when we were still living in the PI (Philippines). I'm sure I had them when I was little.

Boiled green peanuts? Salt on watermellon?? Never heard of them (and from the sounds of them I am glad LOL!!)

I do I do!!!
I'm orginally from Western Massachusetts (no connections to the south at all) and always put salt on watermelon growing up...moved here to the eastern part of Massachusetts and everyone thought I was weird doing it too! Must be an upstate NY or West. Mass thing???

Never heard of boiled peanuts...luv' peanuts..would love to give em' a try. Maybe next time I'm down in FLA.
