I am also one of those people - I call or go online the morning of right on schedule to ensure I get what I want.

My question is - have you ever then done a last minute trip when you didn't have that time to plan?

If so, how did it work out? Did you just walk up or still try to call? I can foresee in my near future a random trip that I won't have planned out and won't be able to plan out and I am really worried about flying by the seat of my pants with this.

Thanks for any help!!

We have done this twice. The first time, we had planned our trip 6 months in advance but one of our children ended up in the hospital the week before we were to leave. We had to reschedule the trip for a couple of months later. With patience and checking several times a day, we were able to reschedule all of our dining reservations and got the days and times we wanted even for some of the popular character meals.

The second time we decided three weeks before that we wanted go to Disney when school was out. Once again with patience and checking multiple times, we were able to get everything we wanted.

It is all going to depend on the time of year you are going.

I planned a trip the month before we left (went in January) and got all of the ADRs I wanted.

Did a trip in September and a trip in October. Never used to schedule ADR's. And never had a problem walking up to the restaurants we did, and getting a table. Maybe we got lucky. But, this whole nonsense of having to know what you are going to be doing 180 days out, is crazy. I don't know what I'm doing the next day sometimes. This December, we did schedule ADR's, only because it's free dining.

When I've booked inside of 6 months, I go online as soon as possible after I book the trip and take whatever I can get at that time. After that, I regularly check the site to see if I can improve my selections.
