A question for those of you with belly button piercings...

I've had my belly button pierced for a little over a year now and up until about 2 weeks ago, its been a great piercing. I've had no infections or problems with it and I did wait for six months to change the ring.

The past two weeks or so though, I've noticed that my piercing (the hole itself) has gotten really tight and it seems to be forming a little bit of scar tissue, almost like it's trying to close up with the ring right in it. It's very difficult to put a new ring through because it's so tight, but it doesn't hurt me unless I pick at it (which I try not to, no matter how much it bothers me that the thing has gotten tight).

So my question for those of you with belly button piercings is this: Has this happened to you or have you had or know anyone who has had a similar experience? I know I probably should call the place I got my piercing done and ask them about it or go in and let them look at it (although it looks completely normal until you move the ring up and down), but it's a bit of a drive and if someone could help me out now, it would really save me quite a bit of time I don't really have.

I really have taken care of this piercing, so thanks in advance for anyone who can tell me this is normal or help me out. :)

this happens to me every once in a while. It will get very tight and the ring is hard to rotate inside the piercing. And, it gets a bit sore now and then. Watch what you're wearing and make sure that the piercing isn't restricted against your waistband or anything. I have a few pairs of dress slacks that I wear to work that ride higher than most of my pants and those seem to irritate the piercing more than others. Usually I'll take it out when I wear those.

use vaseline on the piercing to keep it moist and clean with alcohol to keep from getting an ifection.

I had mine pierced several years ago, and never took the ring out until I had to when I was pregnant (or it would have torn through the skin). There was (still is) a lot of scar tissue there, and it actually closed up completely in about 2 days. If I were you, I would go someplace that does the piercings and see if they can "re-pierce" it for you.

Sorry, nothing like that...actually quite the opposite...I was carrying a tv set and it slipped...well, it ripped the piercing right out. It pulled it straight thru the hole-in one end, out the other. ouch!!

I put Bicatracin (spelled?) on mine like once a week, just to keep it moving smoothly.

I wish I had better advice for you...Good Luck!! :wizard:

Thanks for all the advice everyone. :) I think I'm going to try cleaning it with the sea salt solution they recommend when you first get it pierced and then either call or go to the place I got it pierced at on the weekend.

Beastlover - Ouch! That had to hurt. I can't imagine my piercing being ripped right out like that. :(
