Why is the festival arena (ithink thats the name) and Thunder Ranch empty/unused????? The park isnt that big and having that area sitting unsed seems out of place IMHO. So what is up with that portion of the park???
Seems like that area could be used and help spread out the crowds in the park.

I think they now rent it out for corporate events and such. The bbq restaurant that used to be there was very good, I was bummed when they closed it.

I have heard the same thing that ADisneyPrincess posted.

The BBQ was good, but the new BBQ place is very good, in my opinion.

Yeah Bob, it could help to spread out the crowds in DL.
Actually, there is a lot of "real estate" in DL that is going to waste right now. Big Thunder Ranch area, the Skyway terminals in Tomorrowland and Fantasyland, the Submarine Lagoon is a HUGE untapped area, the old Motorboat Cruise lagoon over by Autopia has been empty for years, Rocket Rods ride area (old Peoplemover), America the Beautiful Circlevision Theater in Tomorrowland, Space Place Food Court area back behind Space Mountain, etc.

Now things have come and gone at DL since the beginning but what's happening lately is that things are going but the ain't coming. Rides, restaurants and shows are being closed and NOTHING is going in their places. That's why these areas are all empty. They were simply closed to save money. I still hold to the opinion that you get less in DL now then you did 10 years ago.

I also had heard that the festival arena was for corporate events but that nothing has been going on for years at Thunder Ranch, if correct.
I would agree with rcmcoy that it is sad that all the area's mentioned arent in some use. Those are alot of area's not to be in use when the size of the park is limited and you also have attractions like the caroseul/matterhorn also down for rehab.
How long have the attractions mentioned been down/not in regular use???

My wife also pointed out that Tom Sawyer's Island is now mostly closed (fort area) and there is a lot of wasted space where that NASA thing is over in Tomorrowland. (Albeit that it was a shop before it was the Nasa thing.) Also, that restaurant at the end of Main Street (now an Annual Pass center) has been closed for years. Disney needs a couple more good restaurants.

Sleeping Beauty's Castle is now closed with no plans to re-open and don't forget about the Carnation Gardens area that is now vacant between Frontierland and the castle.

Add on top of that the rumors that Mr. Lincoln is hanging on by a hair and that Mr. Toad's Wild Ride is living on borrowed time and they would close the Tiki Room if they could and you can imagine an even SMALLER park.

Now to be fair, they are building the Pooh Ride but only at the expense of the Country Bear Jamboree.

Like I said before, a lot of the rides that I remember as "classic" Disney rides are gone and I didn't really even notice that they were being taken away. I guess that's what they wanted.

I agree roy that it is sad that the dinsye company has left so much of the park unused and hasnt opended up new attractions when old ones were closed!!!! A park this size and with the amount of attendance needs to use its land much more wisley to spread out the crowds(and i wasnt even there in summer when the crowds are worse!!)
