A question for the Boma lovers from a Boma hater

My DD wants to eat dinner here on our next vacation. I've eaten here before and really didn't like it, but I'm willing to go so my DD can try it. The thing that turned me off to Boma was the overpowering sweetness of the meats, the salads, and well, just about everything I put in my mouth. Now don't get me wrong. I don't dislike sweets and can power eat a zebra dome with the best of them, but I do detest sweetness in my dinner. I prefer a savory dinner followed by dessert. That night I ended up eating hummus and pita chips. Tasty, not sweet, but not worth a full buffet price.

So my question is has anyone found any main dishes, sides, etc., ANYTHING not sweet there that I could try on the this trip?

I read on here a couple weeks back that supposedly there is a rotating menu at Boma. Someone had posted what nights were the sweet nights. You could try doing a search for it. If I come across it I will link you.

I had a couscous there that was not sweet. There was one with fruits, and that was sweet. The other was not sweet at all. I do agree though, most of their food is very sweet. I am ok with that, as long as I have something to rotate in and cut the sweetness with (enter pitas & hummus).

It was room service , but i had a Kenya coffee encrusted steak that was amazing, & not sweet. my husband (is the abbreviation dh?) had a chicken sandwich w/some sauce & goat cheese.

Would you consider going for breakfast? It's wonderful. You can get an ADR as late as 11:00 a.m. and that meal will carry you through until evening. :thumbsup2

Depending on how they're seasoning the salmon that night, it may or may not be sweet. I prefer sweet foods but last time we were there, the salmon was cooked with olives and peppers and did not taste sweet at all.
(That said our last dinner there was a disappointment overall and we will skip Boma on our next trip.)

We're going for breakfast also, but she wants to try a dinner there. Thanks merbobear for the couscous suggestion. I'll definitely keep an eye peeled for that. How about the falafals? I didn't try them last time, but I don't know if they're sweet or not. Anyone have an opinion on them?

We didn't like Boma for the same reasons you stated and the only thing we liked was the falafel

I think it's the couscous marrakesh, or something similar. It was one of my favorite things there. It has a reddish color to it.

Also, I believe the sliced beef isn't seasoned with anything sweet.

They have about 4 different salads and soups each night, on a rotating menu. At least one of each isn't sweet.

The hummus, as you know, isn't sweet.

Yummmm Can't wait. We'll be eating at Boma in less than 2 weeks!

We were there last week and the salmon was not sweet - it was fire engine hot. A chef was taking a group of guests through the lines to talk about some sort of allergy and I heard him tell them that the salmon was the 'hottest' thing on the buffet that particular night.

There were 2 carved meats and one was not seasoned at all.

I would agree that at least one of the soups is probably not 'sweet'. Being a sweet fan, though, I had the butternut squash soup which is just inherently sweet. Yummy!

And, of course, there are always the basic chicken fingers/mac-n-cheese/plain pizza choices on all Disney buffets.

Hmmm.....maybe I could have a sugar and cinnamon allergy and they could point out all the things that don't have those substances in it. Of course, then I'll have to sneak to get a zebra dome for dessert.:rotfl:
