A question for Song/Delta flyers...

I'm presently booked on a 10:50 a.m. flight out of Logan into MCO on Nov 30. The plane is about 1/4 full. I'm sure it isn't going to be full...how many people are flying to WDW the Wed after Thanksgiving?! I'm a bit concerned about Delta/Song combining flights though. The two flights before mine are not even near full, about the same as mine is. Do any of you have any experience with them combining flights? At what point would they do it? I do check on my itinerary every day since I know they aren't so good about keeping me informed about time changes. But I really don't want to lose my exit row seat. Any thoughts?

I have a flight booked around Thanksgiving (Nov 19 and return Nov 26) I have checked the flights this week and they are only about 1/4 full too, I wouldn't worry too much about it until it gets closer, you'll be surprised how quick it fills up!

Goofy -
I would not worry too much about it. If you are on Song, they would rebook you on Song. It looks like the earlier flight is around 7:00 AM.

Here's my perspective, and it's about the actual equipment they use. Song has a limited fleet of 757's. I believe the plane you will actually be on is coming from
FL. that morning and turning around to go back. This is typically the way Song operates; up and down with the same crew. I know they don't keep alot of people here in Hartford (BDL). I could go on more about the elaborate operations, but the bottom line is they don't want to keep planes on the ground and they do need to get the people from FL to the northeast as well.

So, anyway, worst case they move you to an earlier flight....if they book you on a later flight ....call immediately. My guess, is that you don't need to worry.

It's pretty early. Things can change and your flight could wind up much fuller. Lots of traveler's haven't booked yet..

Plus DL probably needs that Jet to make the flight.... it has to get to Florida to bring folks home.

Please don't count out the business traveler market. That plane will be close to full when you get on it. Business travelers usually don't know they'll need a plane seat more than two weeks in advance.

The plane will also need to be back in FL to bring passengers in FL back to its staring point (ending point?). I know the FAA used to require a mandatory period for schedule changes - 30 or 45 days (for something other than mechanical failure or weather)? I don't know whether that's changed or not.

Duh...I knew that!!! Of course they have to come in from Orlando and then go back...I knew that, I really did. Just kinda forgot it. Nevermind. Although I have been on a flight down that was combined with the following flight.

On our flight to WDW in January of 2004 we were on an SWA flight out of PVD. There were a grand total of 18 passengers on that flight. But, they NEEDED that plane to go to MCO, and then on to it's next stop, to be ready for the first flight out in the morning. So I think this theory is right on. Especially around a holiday, where they need the planes in specific places.

I'm flying round trip on Song out of NYC Nov 5 - Nov 13. I think they are combining planes. My flight times and numbers have changed 3-4 times on each end. My original flight down is now an hour later and my flight home is 3 hours EARLIER!! (Originally 10:45 am, now 7:55 am). Althoug they keep reassuring us we have the same seat assignments, so I;m not sure what is going on. All I know is, as of right now, we are losing 4 hours at Disney :sad1:

Since DL has made the changes you have a couple of options. 1. Is there another flight you like better... call and ask to change it.

2. Is there another airline with a good fare. Call DL and tell them the changes are not acceptable. They refund you and you book again.

We are also flying Song from NYC on Nov. 5th! Which flight are you on? The morning or late afternoon?

We were originally on the flight from LGA at 6:30 am. Just last night (since I wrote the above response), we found out they moved my parents and brother to all different, connecting flights, in Atlanta and Ohio!! This is the only time we didn't book them all on the same itinerary. My mom called Delta last night and they moved all of us to the 7:30 am flight out of JFK instead. Unfortunately, we cannot book our seats until we get to the airport. It only shows 3 available seats (totally separated!) but the rep. said they hold some seats for assignment at the gate and that we will more than likely be able to sit together. (I don't think anyone wants my twin 4 year olds sitting next to them without their Mom!)

Coming home, I believe we are still on the flight to LGA at 7:55 am.

How about you?

I thought of this too (finding a better flight) but boy these dates are either all booked or VERY expensive (that Jersey week effect :goodvibes ). We had booked these a while ago (April I think); the first 2 seats were $135 RT and the remaining 4 seats were $155 RT, inclusive of taxes. That was a pretty good deal and I can't beat it at this point.

Hopefully it's all worked out now though.

they moved us to the 7 AM flight out and the 7:30 flight back which definitely didn't work. I ended up switching to the 9:50 AM or so flight down out of JFK and the 2 PM or so flight back.

We were originally on a 10:25 AM flight home so we get a few more hours this way. Probably not enough time to hit the parks, but we definitely don't have to rush our check out.

We'll be there 11/5-11/12 for Jersey Week. Booked my tickets in March at $145/pp rt including tax...I looked recently and I think the same flights are now around $600. Outrageous!

Hmm, that 2 pm flight sounds much better than a 7:55. I'll have to think about asking for another change.

Where are you staying? We're at the CBR. Haven't stayed there in 10 years; can't wait!

We are flying also on Delta Song from B0s-mco, but are leaving in less than two weeks. I agree that they are not very good about notifying changes. Our original flight was supposed to leave at 8:40a, my husband works at Logan and noticed our flight had been leaving at 7:40ish...(One hour earlier!! with no notification) I called and they said they would email me a new itinerary which stated 7:40, Now my husband has noticed it is leaving around 7:50. I don't know this, but am only wondering...If maybe they are trying different times because JetBlue has reduced a couple of their am flights?
*Also, when you say exit row seats, were you talking about emergency row seats? :confused3
If so,I thought they couldn't preassign emergency until you check in at the airport.
Personally, I like the earliest flight out... more time with the mouse :Pinkbounc

Yes, those are the seats I'm talking about. SInce I'm traveling alone, I can use them. THey do mention online when you book those seats what the qualifications are. I'm hoping that on my return flight someone will have to give up their exit row seat and I can have it.
BTW....my flight home did get changed over the week-end...leaving MCO 15 minutes earlier. I almost wish they would do that with my flight out of Logan. I would love it if they moved it earlier. But my dd, 12, does not want to have to go to the airport to see me off. She would rather be in school when I leave so that leaves out the 8:50 flight for me!!!

But it's probably the last time for us. We bought DVC in June and since we already had this trip planned, banked our points for next year. I already booked air for Easter week and we'll stay on site (either with AAA rate or AP rate) and then we'll be back next November.

BTW, how old is that little princess of yours? She's a hoot!

She's 4 now, but 3 in this picture from last year. This was her first real life encounter with Cinderella at CRT. Although this picture doesn't do her justice (of course as an unbiased mother, I think she's adorable ;) ), it SO captured the moment, I had to use it here. Anyone that thinks 3 is too young for WDW needs to see this!!

Have fun on your trip!
