A question for Solo Travellers

I've been looking through the boards and even the search engine, but haven't been able to find anything that even closely resembles my ponderings....namely, do any DISers here ever pair up with someone (or multiple someones) to make the cost of a room cheaper when soloing? Not that anyone has to go to the park together, just sharing a room. I have been thinking about this as a lot of people at my work seem to think that going to Disney is expensive and I will be getting an AP soon (given we get to take our trip in October...my back is a long, horrid story:sick:) and have made the suggestion of sharing a room but no one seems to take me seriously. I have trips planned for January, May, (possibly) September, December, and maybe one with my mom if she ever gets her act together and says she wants to go, lol. I've also been thinking about getting in on DVC but that's a whole 'nother monster!:lmao:

So...did I just totally miss a board/post about room sharing stuff or do people generally not do it?:confused3

I've offered extra space to people I know before.... Both some DIS friends who I know are going around the same time, and also to friends outside of the DIS.

People do share rooms (think for onsite options, more times than not it's DVC), but I think in general it's usually done with friends or people you know, and not via general "I have some space in my room if someone wants to split" posts on the DIS. That would likely be one of the major reasons a search isn't going to find much on the subject.

While it would be great to save a few hundred on my trip, I'd just be a bit hesitate about it. I know its a little comparable to my solo trips in Europe stating at hostels but I'm not sure I could.

For a idea on savings right now I'm planning my trip in late October 5 nights dlx.dining with the free dining plan pin I got last.month. was like 1200 by myself but 1700 for 2. this was staying at the new animation resort

It was more a curiosity question than anything. I plan on doing a few solo trips next year and I'm hoping I can talk DH into buying into DVC to make it cheaper for me. :cool1:

I don't think I could share with someone I didn't know. I like my own space and I snore as well so it's best that I don't share.

I would not be able to share my room with a stranger.

I don't think I could ever share with a stranger. I'm fortunate enough to be a DVC owner and the cost is not an issue for me plus I really like my privacy.

Considering some of the other responses here, It might be worth making a distinction.

There is sharing a room with another Solo person.

And then there is sharing a room with a stranger.

They don't necessarily have to be the same thing.

Between friends you may make via the DIS (including people who may live around you), or other friends or people you know, It's quite easy sometimes to sync up solo trips so that you can share a room. While you guys may know each other, it doesn't mean that you both want to or like touring the parks the same way or want to spend the entire trip together.

I think it depends on why you're going solo too, I go solo sometimes just to get away and be. I went last fall and it was wonderful to just have the room to myself not have to think about anyone else in the room. I tend to put others first so being by myself is "ME" time! :)

However, if it was someone that you developed a friendship with and trusted then I think it could be a great adventure. :goodvibes

It is just so situational.
