My DH and I have loved this since Series 1 - we were also huge fans of Hill Street Blues.

At the moment, in England we have just seen Ortiz join as Connie's partner and discover her husband was having an affair, and Baldwin find out he is going to be a father.

What we would love to know is why was Rick Schroder written out? Did he ask to go or did something happen to make them write him out of the series? We thought his character was great and was really shocked when this series started to discover he had actually been killed off. That is to take nothing away from his replacement, Clark Jnr, who has done an admirable job of filling his shoes.

In England, we don't always get the gossip behind this series - it is viewed as a "cult" show rather than a mainstream programme (which I think it should be!).

If any of you can shed any light on Rick Schroder's departure we would be very grateful.

Thanks.

Yes Rick wanted out of the show shortly after he signed on, he said he wanted to spend more time with his family. They did give him a hard time though because he only did a couple of shows when he decided he wanted out, that is the reason for killing him off.

Thank you so much! DH and I love the American imports - Friends, NYPD Blue, Without a Trace, The West Wing, ER - but unless they are MASSIVE over here, such as Friends is, we don't get too much behind the scenes stuff which is a shame. I am really grateful you took the time to reply. :)

Hi Jackie

In case you have not figured out, I am reading some of your threads in an effort to get to know you a bit better. Hope you do not read mine as you might go running for the hills before I arrive. LOL

I love the same shows as you except for Friends. I watch a lot of PBS because they have British comedies on there. My best friend is 86 and she loves them as well. I am not quite sure if she understands the ribald sense of humor you all seem to have. I do. (grin) Bucket/Bouquet. I love it. Are You Being Served and the best one of all As Time Goes By.

I have a deep phobia (not dislike, just plain scared to death) of dogs. Do they have leash laws there? Are they enforced? I would not want to scare them either.

Thanks for asking that question...I'm not a regular watcher of NYPD blue but do catch it occasionally and wondered the same thing!...

I also love Without a Trace and I can't believe I missed the season opener!!!
I did see the season finale when the 2 officers were shot at...did you happen to see that one? I can't believe I missed it.

and Slightly Goofy...I love the Brit shows too...I loved Easteners and watched for years and years until we moved to Fl. they don't carry it here...my mom came to visit and she started watching it...It was too funny because I knew the old story and she updated me on the new ones...Love the Buckets too! (do they still show those in the UK I know they are old shows.

Thanks!

I am afraid that I missed the first season of NYPD Blue because I was snobbish. I was of the opinion that if they had to bare their butts it could not have much substance. Not that I am a prude but I have always told my hubby that the fewer clothes a woman has on the cover of a book or dvd the poorer the quality of the media inside. Has been a good rule of thumb mostly. I should have taken into consideration the track record of the people who wrote and designed the show.

I note that many of the British shows contain material that even our crass American shows would not dare to replicate. Have come to the conclusion that if said with a proper British accent you could get away with much. LOL It just sounds so much classier and intelligent.

Lisa - we are behind the US so have not yet seen the episode you mention. We have also had another US import show just recently which we loved "The Closer" - about a woman cop brought in to "close" cases. Brilliant - except I am driving myself mad trying to work out where I know the actress from!!!

You stalker you!!! :rotfl: I'm trying desperately to think what else I have written that could be misconstrued! ;)

I am really concerned about your dog phobia :paw: . That is so sad. :sad1: . Especially since we have a black labrador called Molly .... However, Jim has said that you aren't to worry as Molly can play in the garden when you come to see us and perhaps if you watch her from the window you will realise how stupid she is. :dog: She doesn't bark and hasn't a nasty bone in her body. But I promise we won't let her near you if it causes you problems. What are you like with cats? We have a little ginger called Simba who is a very quiet little girl and just likes to be near people, although she is not a "lap cat" if you know what I mean. She would die a death if you tried to pick her up. :rotfl2:

The big test, of course, is not animals, but 12 year old boys ..... :rotfl: :rotfl2: :Pinkbounc

Love Jackie x

LOL, Jackie. If you should start reading my posts you might well run for cover. I had occasion to do a search to find a phone number for a lady I had corresponded with for a few years (she was very sick) and I did feel like a stalker. I promise you I am harmless albeit with a strange sense of humor.

Darn you, you have added another show to my list of must sees. I had never even heard about The Closer but after checking it out, for you, I am going to tape it. Kyra Sedgwick is the actress and you have seen her in a million tv shows as well as movies. I will send you the site. She is also married to Keven Bacon (only one degree of separation)

Barking and jumping is what terrifies me. I heartily dislike anyone who would hurt an animal so it is not dislike, just plain phobia. My being nervous makes the poor animals nervous. I am also loathe to have a pet discomforted for me. We will plan someway that your fur babies are not bothered by me, maybe.

This whole trip is amazing for me as I have enough phobias to fill a moving van but this has been a life long dream.

Oops! I forgot the most important thing of all. I have 4 grandsons from the age of 8-14 so I am well used to and in fact adore kids.

I volunteer at the local Community Center to teach kids how to read and love reading, am a former 4-H leader and my house is where the kids used to gather, and some still do.

I am rather silly though so a sense of humor is needed. (I cannot get the smilies to work so just assume ROTF)

Agh.....I hope I didn't ruin show for you by divuliging the season finale!

I wonder what season you are on there?

Take care!
