A Question for Canadians that have been on DCL

I was wondering about the customs and immigration stuff since I was reading about international guests and it will be our first time on a cruise. As Canadians do we need to surrender our passports and recieve them back at the end of the cruise or days in port. We are doing a land and sea package so we will be checked in at the Hotel or do we need to check in again at the port terminal since we are Canadian. I'm jus a little confused and would like to learn the answer before we go so Ilm not surprised. Thank you so much.

This is how it worked for us ...

Answer: Yes you will have to surrender your passport. They will provide a slip of paper as a receipt that you should take good care not to misplace.

Question: We are doing a land and sea package so we will be checked in at the Hotel or do we need to check in again at the port terminal since we are Canadian

Answer: For our American cousins they check in only once...for us Canadians you will have to check in separately at the port. Bonus is that you receive to sets of KTTW..one for the hotel and one for the cruise...great souvenir for you and the family

Hi we did the Land & Sea also, didn't have passports just Birth Certificates. You will also check in at the terminal, this is where you'll hand in your passports. On the last day you'll get them back when you go through US customs on the ship. (hint get there early as possible) Have Fun!

I hate to disagree but we did get to immigration early (something like 6am) and had to wait almost 2 hours to clear.

We were all exhausted and would never do that again.

Have one person in your party go down to the lounge to check to see how the line is going and call up for eveyone to come if need be.

If the line is too long, that person can grab a coffee and danish and head back up to the room.

Immigration is always a mess on cruises for non-US residents.

Worst case scenario, they will be calling your name over the P.A. to find you and you will be holding up the entire ship, so they will not be very happy with you!! But other than that, it is better than waiting in line for 2 hours!!!

We were on the Magic this past January and we are doing a Land and Sea plus some this coming March. Anyway we did surrender our passports and we didn't need them back until we went through customs the last morning. We only waited approx 1/2 an hour to have everything stamped and completed. It was the quickest ever, it was at the airports that we had all our questions and waiting. I would definetly recommend you have passports we were told by american friends that have been on the Magic two times, it is much faster then BC's. I am not sure why just an observation they have made, besides isn't it true you need passports to go if you are Canadian? Have a great trip! Houzer

I heard that the beginning of next year other countries eg. Bahamas will require a passport. The states not yet. We had no trouble with our BC's, he glanced at them, asked the kids if they got to hug Mickey, then wished us a great trip home.

As for the line up, we got there early enough that it didn't take us long. When we left the line up was all the way around the stage, out the door and down the hallway! I was thankful we got there early! It didn't help that only one showed up, and he was 20 min late. The lady was just getting there when we left. Better luck next time!

Well thats not totally what I was hoping to hear but is all ok. We are driving from WDW tot he port and we want to be there by 10:00 or so so thats all good. The getting off the ship is bothering me a little though. I'm sure that it will all go fine but w will just have to get up early. There is only the two of us so someone waiting in line really is not an option. Do you have to bring all your carry on baggage with you or can you go back to your room and still have breakfast as usual.

oh yeah and we do have our passports and everything so no problems there.

Hi,

Don't feel stress over it, you'll have a wonderful time!!! You leave your carry on in your room, when done at customs go eat then head back to your room.

We were instructed to report at 6:00am on debarkation day to collect our passports/go through customs and although the lineup was already out the door they had four agents stationed in there. Took us only 20 mins to get from the door through customs and back to our room. We had late seating for breakfast and by the time we had finished the lineup to get off the ship was almost non-existent (it was wall to wall people when we went to breakfast though).
