A question for all you drivers!!

Thanks Aardvarks, We land at Orlando International and DH is very organised and has already researched the route. The tip for the Keys is very useful, although Im the only other adult going and Im not sure if DH will trust me as Im the one who will proberbly loose them. DH is always asking me if Im related to Goofy :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I always have one of the 330ml tins of heineken or similar at the start of the flight, don't have any more than that and I can guarantee you i am well within the limit when i pick up the hire car,

Well, I wasn't going to say anything...... *ducks to avoid various projectiles thrown by the women of the DIS*

On a serious note, driving in FL is soooo much better than this country, and an automatic is a doddle... no clutch, just stop(Park/Neutral), go(Drive), and reverse(Rev-- you know this one). Most american cars have a parking brake in place of our handbrake, which is a stiff pedal normally found on the left of the driver's footwell, with a release lever just above. The roads are nicer too, just remember you can turn right through a red light (unless otherwise signposted) :goodvibes

Forgot to thank you earlier for your instructions on driving an automatic so thanks :thumbsup2 , DH will still be :worried: :( :bitelip: when I get behind the wheel !!

just remember you can turn right through a red light (unless otherwise signposted)

you can turn right on a red light after stopping and only if the traffic is clear...
the traffic you're turning into has the right of way...

and please be sure to look to the left before you turn right...
where i live, there are many, many brits (driving on the wrong side of the street as far as they're concerned)..
so many times i see them turn into the traffic and forget to look left first..
so many near-miss accidents, it drives me crazy....

Thanks, I thought someone would come up with that, unfortunately DH isnt to keen, weve already discussed it, Ive never driven an automatic, Ive never driven on the wrong side of the road and Im a woman :rotfl2:

I was exactly the same last year (in addition to being a young driver) but after the initial drive to the hotel from the airport I was absolutely fine and started to really enjoy the driving. I'll be driving much more in California this year and i'm looking forward to it :) I can understand not wanting to, just thought i'd share my experiences in case it would help to put your mind at ease :goodvibes

To be perfectly honest DH never has a drink if he has to drive. If he does in this country then I will end up driving us home as I am not a big drinker at all, I can take it or leave it. In the US DH also didn't really want me to drive so he just didn't drink. I just don't think it's worth it to be honest.

I would have like to have drove but we had a huge bus type people carrier so I would have probably freaked out at the size of it. I am planning on driving next time though as I am getting my own bus here next week so should be accostomed to the size of it by our next trip! :)

All so, if you click on the British Home page, you can get great directions from the airport with a video film of the route. I'ts just like your there driving the route.

WOW, thanks:thumbsup2
