A question about Tithing and debt, what would Ramsey say?

A quick google of "dave ramsey tithe" gives at least one article by him...probably more if I wanted to look. I skim over it as it's not relevant to my beliefs (or utter lack thereof), but I do recall seeing that he feels it's the first thing a religious person should pay.

Whose income is this?

omg don't start on Sandra (or her boyfriend who sometimes uses her account).

We belong to the Church of the Nazarene. Our pastors have seldom preached about tithing, but it's discussed in the membership classes and Bible studies, depending on which Book we are studying. It's also been discussed that the board members set a good example, but again, only the recording secretary would know if anyone follows it. Our pastor would have no idea about what anyone gives to the church.
We belonged to the United Methodist Church years ago, and we tithed then, but I don't remember it being preached..more taught in a Bible study.

you dont have to share, but if you would like...

Does anyone know what their pastor/priest preaches about tithing? If so, what denomination? Does that influence what you think about tithing? why or why not?

What are your answers?

Our pastor does not preach on tithing. As a matter of fact, we do not pass the plate like many churches. There is a basket in the back of the church where offerings can be placed. We believe gifts to the church should be given freely and not because you're made to feel guilty. Some people actually talk like they are earning their salvation by tithing, when the God I know is all about grace. He offers, and if you receive his gift in good faith, you are saved. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't tithe in money and time, but I don't worry that if I don't tithe 10%, I have lost my salvation. I give when I can and how much I can, and I run our church's children's program, help with projects like Operation Christmas Child faithfully every year. I hope as I pay down my debt I can give more, but it will not be because I want to ensure that I am going to heaven; it will be because I believe in helping others find Christ like I did.

Thithing the way I have been taught is the first 10% is given back to god. But it's te first not the left over god would never let anyone go without who puts faith in him. Trust god with the dirt and he will provide. Thats just the way I was taught.
