Hello all! This trip will be my second, and I want to avoid the embarassing moments of last years trip, when I had no idea who to tip or how much!
I'm on a strict budget, but I don't want to be too cheap! How much would you tip someone helping with your luggage? How much do you tip the mousekeepers? etc.. etc... Thanks for any advice! :) BTW, we're staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort, just me, my sister and my 8 year old DD

One thing is true at the CBR you can either have a really good location or are really bad location. That place is huge and spread out. One thing though I have been able to park reasonably close to our room therefore our family carries the bags to the room. If you wait of CBR to bring your bags it can be a long time because they utilize a van and hand cart later which can be challenging.

However 50 cents to a dollar a bag seems to go over fine

I, too, have been checking this out in many different places! The answer I've found most frequently is $1.00 per bag and for Mousekeeping $1.00 per person per night. Anything above that is totally at your discretion :) (for particularly outstanding service, etc.) The tip for Mousekeeping should be left each day because it may not necessarily be the same person every day, and it should be clearly marked that it's for Mousekeeping. (Disney policy is that they cannot take money from a guest room unless it is clearly marked for them.)

HTH! :yay:

Before we go to WDW, I always go to my bank and get a wad of ones and fives. Great to always have the change ready for tipping. I wish Disney would provide an in-room envelope for Mousekeeping tips. It would make it so much easier and might even encourage some of those who don't tip to do so. I always leave a note for them, and sometimes they take the tip and sometimes not. I have always found the Mousekeepers to be very accomodating and helpful. The always bring extra towels when needed and always seem to have a smile and a "hi" in the hallways. They make the trip so much more enjoyable.

You can print out your own Mousekeeping envelopes from this site:

they have several different styles and pictures - they're really cute! I've got them already printed and filled for our trip at the end of the month!

My DW did that today to get ready for our upcoming trip to POFQ.

Family is getting pretty excited.. well except for DD13.. It would be "uncool" for her to get excited about going... :rotfl:

Tipping is an area that I'm unfarmiliar with, coming from the UK and would value some 'tips' on what to tip whilst over there!

It's more in the area of dining that I'll probably get it all wrong, say if we go out for a meal and we spend $50 between myself and DBF, what would I leave as a tip for our server? I don't want to upset the server by tipping too little, as I don't want to be viewed as a 'bad British tourist' :rotfl2:

Also, in what dining areas do you NOT leave a tip, as I've heard that in certain areas of Disney this does not happen?? Oh it's all so confusing to us Brits!!!

TIA...

Thanks for posting the link.:thumbsup2 Just printed out our favourite seven for our stay at the Poly. Only 11 sleeps until the drive to Disney begins!

For handling the luggage we usually do $1.00 a bag. I don't tip housekeeping unless I have asked them to do something above and beyond the normal cleaning and bringing towels. When dining at TS 15% is the average and acceptable tip in the US. Some will say 20% but that is really only true for good service. So for $50. bill I'd leave $7.50-$8. If they did a lot for me I would leave $10. You don't tip at CS where you bus your own tables and at buffets We only leave a couple dollars for the people who bring you drinks. Many people for some reason over tip when they are at Disney. Right now the tip is included for the DDP and they get 18% so no more needs to be left-check I have heard this won't be included soon but now it is. Have fun!

Hi, we usually tip $1 per bag for luggage, both ways.

When it comes to Mousekeeping, it is uaually $5 every other day, instead of $2 every day.

For luggage, since we use ME the only time we tip is when we are dropped off at the airport on the way home, and the bus driver gets out our luggage. We tip $5.00 (for two suitcases), but I think that's fairly generous. We never carry any one dollar bills with us, so it's easier to just hand him/her $5.00. You don't need to tip when ME brings your luggage to your room, as Disney tips them.
We normally don't tip housekeeping. It's a non-tipped position, and I think it's ridiculous to tip them for doing their job unless you're also going to tip everyone else you encounter on your trip (janitors, gardeners, ride operators,etc.). I would tip them though if they had to do something out of the ordinary, like, if one of my kids got sick or something in the room. So many people think tipping is required for mousekeeping; it's not.

If you are on the dining plan the tip is included already. If not then you tip at least 15% of your bill. Some do 20% now. You do not tip at counter service. Some people don't tip at Buffets as well ,but if your server is bring you fresh drinks and checking on you alot, they deserve a tip as well, but I do the lower end becuase I am mostly taking care fo myself.

Tipping questions have lead into very heavy & nasty debates as to everyone has a opinion.

Read everything and then base your own opinion.

I know that does not really answer your question...sorry

Tip at least $1.00 per bag to each person you let handle your bags.
Meal tips, well we tip at least 20% of the bill but the dining plan includes an 18% tip so you are safe with that amount.
Most drinks have a tip included in the bill, it pays to look at the bills you receive to see if there is an automatic tip included or not.
You should leave the Mousekeeping staff or whatever hotel you are at housekeeping, between $1 and $2 per day per person.pirate:

Beginning in 2008 the DDP will no longer cover the 18% tip...the guest will be responsible for their own tips. Parties of 6 or more it will be added to your bill at the rate of 18% still for you to pay.

I know the tip is already included in the DDP, but since alcoholic beverages are not included, should you tip a little extra if you are paying OOP for drinks with your meal?

We typically tip anyone handling our luggage a $1 per piece of luggage. Mousekeeping we will tip $5 a day.

Why are they doing that?? That was one of the lures of the dining plan fo me.
