A question about swimming

DS loves to swim and does so frequently at school but they provide the life jackets there. In our past trips we've just held him up but he's way to big for that now. Despite all the surgeries, illnesses etc he's managed to grow to to almost 6 feet and he's 165 lbs at least...

What can you recommend? I know I've seen little ones at Disney with swim vests but I'm assuming they don't have them in DS's size. TIA for any help.

I don't know about the resorts that don't have marinas, but the ones with marinas that rent boats have life jackets in all sizes; up to XXL. We have borrowed one of these in the past for DD to use in the pool.

Hopefully someone can give you more recent info and info about availability at the other resorts.

You can check with the adaptive swim teacher and see if they will lend you what he is used to wearing in the pool. I know the teacher in our school district does that for her students that can't swim without a floatation device.

Oh I hadn't even considered that. But this time we are at Pop. We stayed there for the first time last year and I fell in love with this place. I'm a Pop girl now.

Genius Michigan! Thanks for the idea. I bet they will loan it if they have enough given the fact that the school owns DVC points they know the value of a good Disney vacation...lol. I will check with her tomorrow morning. Thanks!

That is a very good hint.
That's what is good about having a variety of posters with different experiences. My DD was in adapted swimming classes, but that was a long time ago. When I saw Michigan posted it, I thought "Duh, (smack self on side of head) I should have thought of that."

LOL, my kid is currently IN swim class and I didn't think of it either. Talk about a head smacking moment...lol. I completely agree with you about the wonderful nature of so many different posters. I knew someone would have an awesome idea. Great community you've built here.!

I'm not sure about the Resort pools. However, at the water parks the only permitted flotation devices are either vests or sleeves which are worn. For infants, in the Lazy River only, you can use a tube which has a solid center with leg holes so the infant can sit up in it.

I do not think we have any vests in adult sizes, but I am not sure. Of course, the only places that would really need flotation would be the wave pool or Shark Reef at TL.
