A question about purchases on a magic band

Sorry if a thread on this topic has been made before, I tried searching. Annual pass holders and people staying at resorts are given magic bands. Are people only staying at resorts allowed to purchase items at the parks with their magic bands, because they have a credit/debit card tied to their resort? I guess what I'm asking is can I too make purchases with my magic band because it is tied to my Disney profile that has a credit/debit card tied to it? I just became an annual pass holder.

No. Only guests of a Disney resort have charging privileges.

As minnie mum correctly notes right now MB charging is only for guests staying at a Disney resort. Many of us hope this will change in the future.

Just as a side note...make sure you have your AP with you when making purchases. You need to show it to get any discounts. They can't tell by just your MB!

Yea only on site guests. It's charged to the hotel room, not MDE or the band itself.

That's the only difference for on site guests. Charging ability and opening hotel room door

I don't think they ever will allow non resort guest to use the charging feature as it's tied to the resort not to your MDE account. It doesn't mater if you have a credit card connected to it or not, you aren't charging it to the band it's charging it to your resorts tab which they then when it reaches a certain point they charge it to the card on file.

Hmmm, but what if I'm just a day guest (i.e. not staying at a resort) and have an ADR. If I miss that ADR, I get charged the no-show fee. So somehow they can access and bill that card.

That's a different system and not contented to the magic bands at all. They can access the card for that purpose because it's on file for the reservation.

The systems are all tied together though. The reservation is shown on the same My Disney Experience account, which is what your MB also accesses.

Yes and no as in your example they have your card on file and you are charged by the restaurant/ ADR department. In the case of making purchase that goes to the resort to process it acting as a middle man between your account and your credit card. Your credit card is not currently accessible from the magic band or MDE. Also the systems are not as tied together as everyone seems to think they are it's actually multiple systems connecting to the MDE. Each system only allows a certain amount of things to be accessed by MDE and the magic bands.

Also true if you want DVC discounts (found that out the hard way).
