A Question About "Journey into Imagination with Figment"

Figment was my FAVORITE as a little girl in the 80s! The ride now stinks, sure, but we still go every trip because I still love that purple dragon! I'm with Robo....it USED to be the bees knees!

Same here, and I loved my plush Figment toy back then. I still have to go on the ride even though others I am with don't want to.

Why was the ride changed? Should I skip it? I have a 7 and 11 yo. We are going soon and haven't been on it.

I don't think it is in disrepair, but the monitors should be upgraded to HD at least.

It was changed because it was super 80's-ish. Problem is, they went way overboard with the changes. Instead of just freshening the ride up, they completely gutted it, got rid of half of the ride, and replaced the other half with REALLY simplistic themeing. The following update a year later made it better, but the damage was done - its less than half the length of the original ride and far less visually stunning. And the "lab" that follows the ride occupies the area that used to be track for the original. Where the old "lab" was is now private lounge space?!? The whole building is just misused at this point.

All of that said, if I'd never seen the original, I'd probably like the ride fine and I take my kids every time we go, and we all enjoy it and play in the lab afterward, so there you go. Those of us who went before 2000 just reminisce about what was. But in reality, everything is always better in our memories.

back in the day..... when I was a kid, that Figment ride was everything! I still have a plush b/c of the memories...... The original ride was great. That said,I've never liked - #2 was awful, and #3 was just....not very good. We go on it once in a while but more for old times sake. They really should step it up in that building,it's a waste right now,and as OP why is Figment everywhere when the ride is so..... not very good? and the rest of the building is sort of undone too?

I never got to see the original Figment, but that ride is a favorite for my daughter and me. We even start singing along with Figment on the ride!

Being major fans of Python, we love Eric Idle and believe the "new version" of Figment is great.
It's a must do ride for us on any EPCOT day. Not sure what makes the OP believe the ride is in any way in a state of disrepair?
Figment is the one, for sure!

Oops, I meant to quote you! Thank you for your reply.

We went on it last week on our very first visit to Disney World. My boys thought it was hilarious! I'm actually kind of glad I never rode the previous versions of rides because we loved just about everything we went on, and people complain endlessly so I was a little worried. We had an amazing time and didn't notice any rides being in disrepair.

My adult sons like it. They also think it is hilarious. They did notice some problems last time though, one of which was going through the ride with no sound at all, iirc.

If anyone wants to see the original, there are several versions on youtube. This is one of the better ones I've seen:

Six-year-old me loved Figment and his ride. It helped make Epcot my favorite of the two (at the time) parks. Epcot today needs serious help, but this is not breaking news. Journey back then was visually, musically, and thematically stunning to me. The current version seems very...sparse. I'm not sure if I saw the in-between version.

Can you tell Figment is my favorite too? I still have a purple Figment night shirt from 1994 - that DH bought for me. You know the kind from back in the day that was super big & boxy and oh so perfect! It's a little worse for the wear but I'm not giving that thing up - no way, no how! Don't even think about it!

Love the ride in any form - it's a must do!

I so miss the upstairs ImageWorks!! I wish they would have re-done that instead of making it a Vacation Club Lounge.
