A question about FCC

Completely hypothetical, but I'm curious...

Our summer 2020 cruise was cancelled, and we chose a full refund over the FCC.
(Which is why this is completely hypothetical.)

It is now 2022, and honestly, we still aren't really comfortable cruising.

IF, we had taken the FCC, could I still get a refund, or would we HAVE to use it?

(I had assumed I could get a refund whenever, but I saw something on another thread that made me second guess.)

Thanks!

I believe you could still get a refund of the original 100% provided: 1) you had not used partial FCC on a cruise that is now past, and 2) you aren't in the penalty phase for the cruise booked with FCC.

That makes sense.
That's what I thought the guidelines were when it was offered.

correct. Assuming it was still chilling in your account untouched you’d get 100% back- no issues.

It gets complicated if you had say 10k that became 12.5k in FCC (+25%) used 6k on a cruise and now want to refund the remaining 6.5k.

Hi: I think this is my situation. I took the FCC in 2020, rebooked another cruise for this year, but just cancelled that (didn't use any portion of my FCC, cancelled without penalties). BUT I still haven't received my refund. Does anyone know how long it takes for DCL to refund the original amount paid (which was converted to FCC but now cancelled)? It's been more than 30 days since I cancelled. Do I need to call DCL and officially tell them I'm not going to use the FCC?

Surprised they didn't give you an explanation of the refund and expected timing when you cancelled. I know our refund for one of our cruises back in 2020 took about 6 weeks, but they had told me up to 12 weeks, so that was a pleasant surprise.

I think, but don't have experience personally with this, it might sit as FCC until Sept 30, 2022 and then refund minus the additional 25% at that time as there is still, technically, time to use your FCC on a cruise. If you didn't very clearly say you wanted a refund vs wanting just to cancel the cruise I think this scenario is likely.

Attempt to make a new reservation signed into your account and when you go to pay if the FCC option is available as payment you’ll have your answer.
You’ll need to call and specifically ask for the FCC to be refunded..

I tried doing the “reserve and see if FCC is there as option to pay” and it’s not. I had booked through Costco, so I filled out a form to cancel (didn’t talk to an agent), and they cancelled it for me. I guess I’ll have to wait and see if it gets refunded eventually. The fine print says it can take up to 90 days to get refund.
