A question about APs and Memory Maker

Hello!

DH and I are going with the kids in March 2018 and will be buying 8 day park hoppers. We are considering also going in Oct 2018 for a couple's weekend. We would probably get 3 day park hoppers. I thinking that this would it most cost effective for us to upgrade to APs when we get there in March.

HOWEVER, I really want memory maker for our March trip. If we upgrade to APs on our arrival day, when we are not going to a park, will we be able to do memory maker or whatever the AP equivalent is the next day? Or is there a wait period?

Thanks so much

(Oh, and I had no idea which forum this belonged in, so I just put it here. Thanks.)

There's no wait period. Once you activate the AP you have the AP photopass option automatically

Not only that, let's say you upgrade to an AP on day 3, as long as they backdate the pass to day 1 (which they should) the MM watermarks will remove all the way back to the start date of your AP.

I just did this at the beginning of this month. The AP discounts and PhotoPass benefits were used several times within an hour of me swiping my card. Go for it!

We are going in November and April and are doing the same. Between photo pass for both trips and the dining discount it is much cheaper!

Technically, what you get with the AP is not Memory Maker. It's much better. MemoryMaker gives you 45 days to download the photos from a specific trip. The AP allows you a full year of downloads, and it's not limited to a specific trip. It's also retroactive.

Say you took a trip in December 2016 using a regular MYW ticket and had PhotoPass pictures taken then (but didn't have MemoryMaker). In October of 2017 you activate an AP. You will immediately start seeing all the pictures for the current trip, but you'll also have full download access to those photos from the October trip as well. What the AP does is open up a rolling year-long window to access your photos.

I keep seeing people talk about the photos from within the previous year showing up upon activation of an annual pass. This was not the case for me. I was at WDW Sept 30-Oct1 of 2016. Activated annual passes on Sept 2 2017. While my 2017 stuff did show up immediately, the 2016 stuff never did. Emailed them about it and they told me that only photos that were taken while an AP was active will appear in the account. Just wanted to mention my experience so other know they may or may not get pictures from a trip prior to the trip in which an AP is activated.

Interesting. Not my experience. Also not what Disney published when they initially added the feature to the AP. But then they well could have changed things.
What's interesting is that my DIL and DGS were at WDW in April. They're linked to my MDE. I could see their photos in my account, (kinda fun watching their trip from the other side of the country) but with the watermark and they went away in June since I didn't have an active AP. Activated my AP earlier this month - all those pics from April showed back up without the watermark.

I guess, as you say, YMMV. Thanks for the heads up!

Thank you all so much!! This is really good news. Upgrading to APs will make our trip in October much more affordable since the price difference between the 8 days and the AP is so much less than the tickets for our weekend. I might also get to sneak in a solo weekend away if I have an AP as an excuse!!! Yay!!!

Here's a related question:

We are going in March and October next year, DH, DS and I will get APs in March, DD is on a school trip so she will have their "group" ticket. Can I give her one of my MBs to use just for the Memory Maker feature in March? Or because she is on my MDE will she also be able to access the Memory Maker with her own MB?

The Passholder will see and can download (for FREE) photos & ride videos for everyone listed in their Family & Friends list.

I had the same experience. My sister is doing the DCP and arrived in January. I bought an AP in April and all her pictures showed up without the watermark. I've also linked some of her friends in the last few days and all their old pictures from the start of their program have come up too. It's definitely made the AP worth it for me!
