A public service announcement

If you have a health problem, do you carry odor neutralizer in your purse? It may help with embarrassment.

I feel so sorry for anybody with this health issue, as it seems like people have no sympathy:guilty: It must be horrible.

i've never thought to pack one. one less thing to drag around, and since most of the time i'm at wally hole i don't want to be accused of perhaps stealing a product, i think that would be ten times worse explaining the situation as to why i'm using a product they sell in their bathroom!

Can you use a product that Wal Mart doesn’t sell? There are plenty out there that would eliminate odor and save you some embarrassment. They come in travel sizes too, so you wouldn’t be inconvenienced by "dragging" a tiny bottle around.

I am not being mean, but if you have a medical condition that encompasses your life enough that you would actually rip into a professor to defend, couldn’t you take some action on your part to down play the odor?

You said yourself it is very, very embarrassing for you. Why not be proactive and carry a little spritzer?

My sister in law use to carry around one of those rooms sprays from Bath and Body works. The can is very small, and those things are powerful. She use to carry it around in her purse because she had stomach issues due to colon cancer and didnt want to offend anybody, expecially after chemo treatments..She has now passed away :(...but I now buy those room sprays from Bath and Body works all the time..they work wonders in a room .One spray will clear a whole room:thumbsup2

Really?????:confused3

This is the main reason I try to never use public restrooms! After living in dorms for 2 years, you would think that it would have changed me, but nope.

This is a bit extreme, but if I had to take a dump, I would drive across town to my friends house and go there.....

Can I suggest you go back a couple of posts and read what its like to have an inflamitory bowel disease.....

The 'option' of driving across town to use someone's bathroom is beyond comprehension. Heck the 'option' to get to the restroom from the other side of the building is dicey to say the least!

never looked into it. the reason i ripped into my professor was because he was very rude and laughed about the priors students paper on her condition, divulging issues she had. it crossed several lines. stupid me i should of gone higher about him. being 19 and a bit naieve i didnt think to.

now that i've been dealing with this for more than 16 years since i was a teen it's not an embarassment to me now as a teen yes. we all poo. thats life...but to go into a bathroom and hear people make those kind of comments over something no one can control is hurtful. weather they realize it or not. now i openly talk about my condition- no ews people please! lol i dont talk about my poo only what the disease does to me and what my limitations are! out in the workign force a few years ago i had told my supervisors on cash incase i had to leave asap and one supervisor who was quite young went omg- how can you talk about it- she was embarrassed for me. but reviewing my orginal post i didnt say i was embarassed i said it was embarrasing for many. brains getting old these days.

im sorry for your loss...i have to get screened every 2 years for it....so not fun....but id rather that than the alternative. rite now bbw isnt in atlantic canada and i don't like to shop online.

wonderful suggestions guys, but in my heart of hearts i think people just need to be a little bit more considerate esp if they dont know what's going on in peoples lives.

I'm assuming this thread was just a joke - somehow meant to be funny..:confused3

If not - this has got to be one of the biggest "entitlement" complaints I have encountered in a long, long time..:sad2:

I have carried a small can of spray with me, and used it in public bathrooms before. Especially the ones that don't have an exhaust fan system working.

And I agree with the poster who said it's impossible for someone with a medical condition like IBS or Crohn's Disease to just "drive across town to a friend's house" and use their bathroom. It is sometimes terribly hard just to make it to the bathroom in Wal-Mart or Target or whatever store if you happen to be shopping on one side and the bathrooms are w-a-y across the store at the other end. By the time you get there you are clenching your cheeks, I kid you not. I used to brag that I had some of the world's strongest sphincter (I think that's what they called ) muscles of anyone!! But really, it's not a laughing matter. Until you have dealt with those issues yourself, you have no idea what some people go through on a daily basis. They need to be given common courtesy and compassion, not be made fun of because of the smell they are creating in the restroom.

When I talked to my doctor about my "problem" (after suffering in silence for years!) she just said "oh, it's probably IBS....here's a pill." I took the pill for quite awhile, even though it made me dizzy every time. Finally I decided to try to omit wheat from my diet, just to see what would happen. It was amazing. I wish I would have done it sooner! I no longer have those "bathroom issues" if I stay away from wheat. I no longer have to worry about knowing exactly where the bathroom is in any store. I can finally travel again without worrying I might have an accident before we can find a bathroom. Etc. etc.

My suggestion to anyone who has what their doctor calls IBS, try giving up wheat, or dairy, or both. See what happens. You, too, might be freed!

I won't get into the subject of the thread completely, but I have IBS and was recently put on the medication IC CHLORDIAZEPOXIDE (generic version of Librax) and it has helped me a lot! It is part for the colon spasms and part for the anxiety that goes along with it. The meds can bind you up a bit so I also take a probiotic 2x a day (the ones you have to keep in the fridge - bought mine at Whole Foods) and that combination is working well for me. (fingers crossed)

I had to use the restroom at work today.

A person entered the next stall and apparently had a wicked case of diarrhea.

I thought I was going to die from the smell. :faint:

I held my breath while quickly finishing my business and got out of there as fast as I could.

PLEASE people have mercy on the rest of us. If you have to answer nature's call please, please, please, poop then flush before you do anything else, even if you have to repeat this procedure again and again.

That's all.

ITA!!!!! Courtesy flushing is the way people!!! You should ALWAYS flush as the kids are being dropped off at the pool!!:thumbsup2
