A preview of T-Rex Cafe

The first one opened in Kansas City, Kansas today by the Kansas Speedway. We went to the training session, so I thought I would share.

The atmosphere is fun, a bit scary for DS1 (3 years old) when the animatronic dinos moved, but he decided he liked it, as he called it the dinosaur house. Just like Rainforest Cafe's thunderstorm, T-Rex has meteor showers and all the dinosaurs get a bit loud and the lights flash. After it subsided, he was better. DS2 (1 year) was entertained by everything! The food was very good. DH had tribal tacos (fish) and I had the biggest cobb salad I have ever seen. The boys were pretty happy with their rigatoni and paleo pizza. Since it was a training session we attended we had to order specific items but everything was good. Including the Cosmo-Paleo Tini that came out smoking! and the Smore-a-saurus (make your own smores at your table.) The store carries just about everything dinosaur related and there is also a great kid center where the kids can do a fossil dig, create a dinosaur on the computer (as well as other activities) and go through a mine. There is a minimal charge for the extra stuff, but it is a great distraction for the mildly timid.

The regional manager there said that locations in Vegas and San Diego are next and Downtown Disney is supposed to open Fall/Winter of 2007. The Asian inspired restaurant in Animal Kingdom is Summer of 2007.

Yes, plans were announced a little while ago. It will be in DTD. There is a new restaurant going in the AK, but it is in Asia, and I believe Asian themed (both TS and CS).

Thanks for sharing the pictures. DS7 is a dinosaur nut and would LOVE this. I'm guessing the one in DTD won't be done in time for our October trip so I'll keep my fingers crossed for one in Chicago or Indianapolis.

It won't be until 2007 when the second T-Rex is open and it will be WDW. The other locations mentioned above are new announcements so my guess it won't be until 2008 when they open at the earliest.

We have a labor day weekend trip planned to visit family in Gladstone, so this will definatley be on the list.. along with Hallmark Visitor center

It officially opened yesterday. I took the kids out there tonight for dinner.

Yes, the menu was a lot like Rainforest, but my three DS's (11, 8 and 4) absolutely loved it. They thought it was much better than Rainforest, but they are into dinosaurs. They especially enjoyed the sharks and stingrays in the aquarium behind the bar (under a giant octopus).

If you have kids who love Dinosaurs, it's worth a visit. I think it will make a great addition to WDW as well. It would go particurly well in Dinoland USA, but I think it's slotted for downtown disney.

Yes the location for T-Rex is in Downtown Disney. If I recall correctly it is going to near the Comedy Club.

That is just what one of the regional managers told me when I asked about the location in Disney. It sounded like the others would open earlier than DTD but he didnt give me dates on those and I havent seen/heard any other information.

Thanks for posting these great pics!! I think that while it does look a lot like Rainforest Cafe - it still looks like a lot of fun!!

We'll be checking it out whenever it opens at WDW!! It looks like something new for all the little boys out there, too.
