Last I left we were about to go into the buffet “brunch” at 1900 Park Fare on a cold windy morning of the day we had
MNSSHP tickets.
We were the last sitting to be seated. I was worried about the quality of the food that would be available to us. Would the kitchen be too busy cleaning up to refill dishes? Turns out I worried for nothing. The food offerings looked fresh and if I didn’t get exactly the same offerings, as the earlier guests there were no empty spaces or doubles of dishes so I would never have guessed.
Dh relaxed once we got into the restaurant. For such a fancy resort the 1900 park fare restaurant looks very cafeteria like. The “unposhness” of the restaurant set Dh at ease. Personally I prefer the décor of the crystal palace to this place. We hadn’t eaten here before but the kids went to the Wonderland Tea Party which takes place here so we had seen it. Although I am glad that the lack of luxurious surroundings worked for Dh, I still kind of wish the décor reflected more of the aristocratic theme the rest of the GF does. Maybe it’s just me?
Even the signage shows a lack of pomp and circumstance I would think this place should have.
What the place lacked for in its ambience, it made up for with its food and the characters. We had the same Mad Hatter that my kids did when they did the aforementioned Tea Party. The guy was hilarious. He took forever and a day to get to us meaning we had to wait until they were closing the place to see him but it was worth it. Our server (who by the way was quicker with drink refills than quick draw McGraw) said he’s been working here for 15 years and that this Mad Hatter is the best he’s ever seen.
Here we are with the Mad Hatter.
Here is my food picture from “Brunch”. Not sure where Dh's is? It would have been piled much higher.
The famous Mickey Waffle.
Here is Dh and I with the characters.
There was a couple on their disneymoon beside us. I made sure to offer to take pictures of the both of them with all the characters. I asked them when we sat down (we were seated at the same time) if we could switch up and take each other’s pictures. They said “Sure”. But I could tell they weren’t pros at this character meal thing. They kept forgetting to take our picture and I wasn’t feeling pushy enough to remind them. I mean we got the characters after them each time. How hard is it to remember? I’ve just taken your picture, now we switch. They kept leaving to get food immediately after a character left and then apologized after.
Oh well, they were young and on their honeymoon. Maybe once they’re married 13 years like Dh and I and return to Disney they will pass the buck by being nice to another couple on their disneymoon. At least our server came by and took a picture for us. Did I mention our server rocked? I wish I had written down his name.
Dh and I rolled out of the place. I was feeling very lazy due to the copious amounts of food I had just consumed. I assumed Dh was feeling the same. I was wrong.
We strolled though some of the shops at the GF. I was surprised when Dh decided to join me instead of …well instead of anything else. The man hates shopping. I soon realized why he decided to join me shopping.
"
Stop that”
“
Stop what?”
“
We are in public. People can see.”
“
What people? We don’t know anyone.”
“
I should start calling you Ursula.”
“
Why?”
“
Because it feels like you have 8 arms like an octopus right now.”
“
Oh, Ursula from the little mermaid. I thought you meant Ursula your old boss.”
“
No. My boss might have been as mean as Ursula, but you’re the one with the tentacles. Pack them back up now Mister. Nothing gets between me and shopping.”
“
Okay. Okay. I’ll go check my messages.”
“
Good idea.”
Since we’re Canadian, our cell phones charge an arm and a leg for international roaming fees so we don’t answer our cell phone. Instead we go to the pay phone and check them using a prepaid long distance call. It’s not the best plan but it works for now.
Speaking of phones.
I just thought this was the sweetest thing so I had to take a picture of it. My grandparents had a phone like this at one time.
Here is Dh on the phone. He's looking much more relaxed now. I wish I had thought to take a picture of him when we first arrived with the scowl on his face and his shoulders up to his ears in discomfort.
Dh being a small business owner means that he needs to check his messages a couple times a day. Even while on vacation. It’s one of the downsides of owning your own business but really compared to his flexible schedule (he rarely misses a school field trip and can stay home when the kids are ill) it’s not a bad trade off.
Just as I'm about to walk off into the shopping sunset I hear...
“
But… you’re not like going to buy anything are you?”
So his plan all along was to distract me from spending money. Perhaps I don’t give him enough credit after all. Pretty smart plan.
“
I’d like to buy a hoodie. I think it’s going to be cold tonight and I don’t want to be cold.”
“
Didn’t you pack the windbreakers?”
“
Yeah.”
“
Didn’t you say we have long sleeves?”
“
Yeah. But I think I’m still going to be cold in long sleeves and my windbreaker.”
“
I want you to be cold.”
Why in the world would Dh want me to be cold?
“
What?”
“
If you’re cold it means you’ll have to cuddle into me more.” He says with a wink and walks off towards the phones.
Regardless of that last interaction I was still on the prowl for a hoodie. I only like hoodies with zippers that go all the way down. All my kids are the same. If it doesn’t have a full zip they won’t wear it.
I found one that was sort of okay. But for $60 I would want it to be more than sort of okay. So I left it there.
I gathered up Dh and we took the monorail back to the MK, then the bus to Coronado Springs.
It was about 1:30 when we got back to our room. The plan was to hit the Mk with our MNSSHP tickets around 4 ish. So we had some time to kill.
There was enough time to go play mini-put but no one mentioned it.
