How many people get annoyed at posts by other "Dis Boarders" stating how they get annoyed by other posts that pose, in their minds, stupid questions. Now those are the posts that annoy me :confused3 Got a question? Go ahead and ask, someone will answer, I just hope it is politely. :grouphug:

Yeah, I always assume things will be answered politely, but you know what they say about assuming. ;)

When I read those snippy replies, I just shrug my shoulders and move on. There's always a few everywhere.

Compared to some of the other boards I have been on disboards is very friendly. Even when there is a snippy reply it is generally not to bad. I love being a part of this community.

I understand what you're saying, but sometimes someone poses a questions that just begs for sarcasm. Like if someone asks, "Has anyone been to DW in January?" Okay, it just begs for everyone to answer "no". No one has ever been to DW in January. Get it? We have a rule in my family, if you're going to ask a question you think might be stupid, just wait 10 minutes and you'll find your answer. I know I have had some questions, and I'm pretty Disneyfied, I just do a search on this board and I usually find my answer.

I don't mind the silly questions, just skip over them!!! I just wish there was a "smilies" that had its tongue sticking out or saying, "BOO, HISS" that I could post on the judgemental replies!

What do you think the chances are of getting one of those?

I think people are coming here to learn the ins and outs of Disney. I know when I started "hanging" on the DIS boards, I asked a few questions I'm probably a bit embarrassed about now. But, at the time, I didn't know, and was very confused about certain details. Fortunately, I got very warm and helpful replies from the more seasoned DISers, but I have witnessed a lot of the sarcasm the OP is referring to and it saddens me. It really bothers me when some poor unassuming new comer asks what he/she thinks is a simple question that is a heated topic (ie. the dreaded refillable mug question)...and the poor person typically gets attacked by a few. Yes, they could do a search, but honestly, if the person is new, maybe they're overwhelmed by the searching thing, or didn't think they found the EXACT thread for their personal question.

It would be great if we could all just remember that everyone is at a different Disney knowledge point and we all come here to share what we know and love with one another. Please, folks, don't judge others...even if you feel they're being ignorant. JMHO :goodvibes

It doesn't bother me at all when someone posts a question that is obviously common knowledge to Disney-philes. There was a time that I had no idea about WDW. Everyone takes a 'first trip'.

When someone posts "Has anyone gone in Jan.?" I just think they want a person who has gone in Jan. to describe it to them. So what if they phrase it that way?

The purpose of these boards is for people who are coming to the world to be informed. I resent the posts that make the "newbies" feel inadequate.

I sometimes feel that it is too judgemental. We all at one time needed knowledge and in my case I still do. So I don't mind the same posts over and over. If the response helps one family have a more enjoyable time, so be it.

Let the posts continue!!!!!!

ITA!

Not everyone has been to WDW every year for the past 15 years. Some people come here because it's their very first visit to the world and the amount of information can be overwhelming.

The least we can do is answer their questions with patience and kindness. If we can't, then the next best thing is to sit on our hands and keep our less kind thoughts to ourselves. If the answer references another thread or forum on this board or website, it's nice to include the link if you know how to do it.

I remember once somebody asking a perfectly logical question and being told none too nicely to do a search, that had been debated many times. That was over on the Disneyland side which is much smaller and I am pretty familar with all the names etc. I never saw that poor OP on the board again. What gets me is that it takes as much time to yell at them for being stupid or tell them to do a seach as it does to answer the question, so why not just politely give them the info they are looking for?

I've often refrained from asking or posting experiences on the dis, due in huge part, to the backlash that I've seen.

If someone posts about a negative experience...then it is assumed that it, in someway, *had* to be due to the fact that the OP did something wrong or expected something that wasn't meant to be expected. KWIM?

I come to the dis because I love reading about all things Disney and the dis really is a wealth of great Disney information...but to be honest...it isn't a very inviting community. I joined in 2004 and since then, I've seen it get worse. It's ironic too since we are all here 'cause we enjoy Disney so much...ya know, a place that represents magic and kindness. (weird, isn't it?)

IMO...the one thing that can change the current course is for those in charge to have a stronger presence and to reign in rude behavior quickly instead of letting it get out of hand. Still, I've see a couple of people in charge respond to an OP in a snarky way so when those in charge do that, it's no wonder that others tend to follow their lead. On the other hand, I know of one or two mods that have quickly take action. In those cases, things never got "out of control" and the conversation stayed civil.

But to answer your original question...no, I'm not annoyed by what others consider 'dumb, stupid' questions. I was a newbie once too. I am, however, annoyed with the rudeness that I've seen more and more.

I've been posting here for around 2 years and I still get apprehensive when I have a question that the "experts" deem too stupid. However, I have literally saved thousands of dollars and experienced more on my vacations as a direct result of the wonderful people on these boards.

What I can never understand are the people who answer a post in a rude or condescending manner. If you don't want to help, just skip the question!

And God forbid someone says something bad about WDW: "The CM was rude at the ToT". They get attacked by the few who think Disney can do no wrong!!

I feel the same way. Why go out of your way to make someone feel bad about a question they've asked? If you aren't going to offer a helpful reply, I don't see any reason to offer a snippy, rude one. :guilty:

Well I read some of the post on this thread but not all, and this is my experience, this place is very friendly and informative, I was reffered here from another member of another board I was on and they were so extremley rude there it wasnt funny...On 3 sepreate occasions I was treated so badly that I stated my mind then cancelled my membership and came here....I have asked the stupid questions before and some have been answered in great numbers and so havent but everyone has been so nice and I love that about these boards, I hope I continue to feel like that, and yes when I feel I have to will keep on asking those dumb questions with the answers staring at my face, lol!!! ::MinnieMo

Just please try to remember we are only trying to find out info to make our stay at WDW as special as can be if you feel so bothered by our questions then skip it and dont answer!!!

Being a newer person, and seeing some of the posts and how some people have gotten "flamed" I have tried to search as best I can before I ask a question. AND i've also been leary about asking a few things...but tonight i'm tired from getting bashed by sisters and might just have to ask a few ;)

I hate snarky answers!!! There's no need for it! We are on here for a reason...we love DISNEY!!! It takes just as long to type a nice answer as a rude one! I know I asked some "stupid" questions, and I am thankful that most DISers have been patient with me. I NEVER ignore a "stupid" question...those are usually the ones I know the answers to! :rotfl2:

I will say this...compared to some chatboards I have been on, DISboards is by far the friendliest!!

Hi!

Someone once told me, "There are no stupid questions; just opportunities for learning." Applies here; applies in most areas of life.

75 days to go until our 34th trip to WDW!!! Whoopee! :Pinkbounc

ITA with what everyone has stated here so far. There's nothing I can think of that hasn't already been stated.

To be totally honest, this is the only discussion board I have ever been on. So in the beginning, I really was new to the whole "search" function. Maybe the next time I see a nasty response to newbie's question, I will reply "You have a "Back" button...use it!" But, I guess I would be just returning the nastiness.

I will go even further and say that the people who don't say anything to the OP but just post a link to another thread, even that is kind of rude to me. It's like asking someone for directions, and they just point in a direction and then turn away. I don't like that. Even a quick abbreviated answer and add, "Here's a link that went into that question further." would be better than the link alone.

I am not trieng to hijak thes trhed. Personelly, I liek teh posts that have teh rong speling and poor gramer. And I like these tipe of posts more then teh ones that are obliviosly made to see how many possts teh originall poster maked to see how many posts will be maked to these tipe of message bords. Wooooo Woooooo!!!!! Bring own teh multaple postes thred.

What I think the mod's should do is make the entire top 1/3 of the screen the search button as people can't seem to find it.

I would say that 75% of all new posts have all been posted before and answered ad infinitum.
