Don't let the question marks above fool you, it WAS a very positive experience.
First some background information. In our experience as northern Albertans flying out of Edmonton, the cheapest, most direct flights, with the most choice have been the United flights connecting through Denver.
For our upcoming Christmas trip to WDW, we got our preferred United early departure and late return flights through Air Canada since they had the lowest price we'd seen by far. Much cheaper than the United site, in fact.
Over the past few months we've received four
itinerary changes! None were major but our plans now had us leaving a hour earlier than we had hoped for... then number 5 arrived this morning! We were now leaving 5 hours earlier, connecting through Montreal (2.5 h layover) and a return flight that made a stop in Toronto!
I told my wife that I'd have to phone to see if we could change our return flights, she said, "Yeah, good luck with that!"
So I phoned the AC reservation people (was on hold for 15 minutes, all the while wondering how many people were phoning for the same reason) and talked to a representative. She patiently listened to my concerns, took my booking reference, told me that the original flight was cancelled by United, saying that all airlines were doing major cutbacks on their flights. She asked if I was at a computer and I said I had the day's schedule in front of me. She simply asked me which flights I wanted, I chose the 3:15 departure, connecting through Denver, as it was the latest one now offered, she said fine, I've sent you an email, and asked if there was anything else she could do for me. I said no, she reminded me of United's baggage fees, and wished me a pleasant day.
So there you have it! Courteous and efficient service from our national airline.
I just hope there won't be any more changes like this!
