A Pirate, a Jedi & a Platypus walk into a Lounge – A Feb 2013 Pre Trip Rpt

I read on easywdw that the EMHs have switched between DHS and Epcot, which means that DHS will not have EMH on Monday 2/25 and therefore will not have the Dance Party.

But, this also means we can head over to Epcot after Fantasmic for a stroll through the world on Monday night if we are up for it.

Since we won't need to stay for the dance party, we may switch the HBD Fantasmic package to another night now so that we can see the MSEP in MK. Or we may just leave it alone.

:bday:

Today is the day that ObiWan will turn 7! Our plans are to relax in the morning with a Club Level breakfast (maybe supplemented with some bacon from Roaring Forks......). Then we will go to MK to celebrate his birthday!

We have a reservation for the Pirates League at 11am. ObiWan told us that he will ride POTC with us when he is 7, so what better way to get him in the mood than to have him be a pirate? pirate:

We have an ADR at LTT for 1pm, where I hope they make a big fuss over him for his birthday. party: If they don't, we certainly will make a big fuss over his birthday. Well, I will. DH is just looking forward to the pot roast. :rotfl2:

After that, we will let him decide what he wants to ride and do (I'm predicting swimming) and hope to get back to Pirates League for the Pirate Parade at 4pm. From there, we have to get back to WL for a 650pm ADR at WCC. I will be ordering a birthday cake to be served with our dinner there. I would consider doing that at LTT, but it will be much easier to take any leftovers right to our room in WL. ;)

I have already contacted IPO to ask if they can help us put any surprises or presents in the room while we are out and the CL staff can definitely help us out here. We can even have a few presents shipped there from home.

I was originally going to have us do breakfast at CRT that morning, but decided against that so that we could have some more relaxation time and not have to get up so early and put so much pressure on all of us on his special day. We loved the breakfast at CRT and I'm sure we will do it again some time, but I'm trying to put this day in perspective and let him have some fun.

Your plans sound great so far, excited for you all! ObiWan is going to have a wonderful birthday trip :cool1:

Thank you! I hope he does. I had to resist the urge to over plan the day.

He is looking forward to this trip so much! So are we!

I spent some time on the Disney website yesterday after reading through some descriptions of Fantasmic! here on the Disboards. :surfweb:

I have never seen Fantasmic! and was looking through some pictures of it when I found some that shows the lake in flames. Well, when we did the Backlot Tour in January, ObiWan was TERRIFIED at the scene with the truck in flames and I never want to see him with that look of terror again. Certainly not at Disney, and after a long day, I don't want him to even remember that scene if he can help it.

So I have decided to put of Fantasmic! until some future trip when we are all a little older, and have also decided to cancel the Fantasmic! package with Hollywood Brown Derby on our first full day there on 2/25.

With no need to see Fantasmic now and no dance party due to the change in EMH date, we will hopefully get picked for an early spot for Jedi Training that morning, get to ride TSM, Great Movie Ride, do Animation Academy, meet some characters and go back to the resort for a little rest before.......

Our new ADR at 5:20 at Ohana! Yep, I'm still curious about it and now that I've added the dining plan back to our package, and have cancelled a 2 credit meal, we'll get a chance to do this. This should also allow us time after the meal to go over to MK on the monorail to see the Main Street Electrical Parade, which was not operating when we were there in January.

DH played Devil's Advocate about Ohana and whether we would cancel it if we were picked for a really late time for Jedi training. I agreed that the $30 cancellation fee would be well worth the cost of ObiWan being trained as a Jedi.

I have made no changes for 2/26 thus far, but am now thinking about what kind of cake to get delivered to WCC. Probably the standard podium cake, but I am enjoying looking at all of the cake pictures on the Cake Chatter thread.

I'm also thinking about an in room celebration of some sort but think its too early to be planning that in detail just yet.

Our plans for Wednesday are as follows:

We will do breakfast in the Club Lounge (with some bacon from Roaring Forks again, I'm sure). We will be heading to Epcot at some point that morning, probably early so we can get a Soarin' fast pass......::yes::

Then we have a reservation in Epcot for AAA Storytime Experience at 10:45. We did this in January and had Snow White read a story to about a small group of us - 15 or so, and only 6 children. Its really cute and you don't know which character will be reading the story until they come out. Because we booked our trip through AAA, this is one of the "extras" that came with that package.

We will then be making our way over to Downtown Disney for lunch at TRex at 130pm. I think its only fair that ObiWan get to do some post-birthday shopping at DTD.

Then, as odd as this statement sounds.......we have NO PLANS for the rest of that day. I'm quite sure I will manage to change that in the 119 days until our trip. :rotfl: We will probably head back to Epcot or we may do some exploring of some of the other resort areas (like the Yacht Club that keeps tempting me until I see pictures of Wilderness Lodge). We might even spend some time (if we haven't already done it earlier in the week) doing Agent P's World Showcase Adventure.

Our last full day there, Thursday, 2/28.

MK has morning EMH's so we will plan to get up early for those and possibly do Rope Drop. Then we will try to fit a few early rides in - BTMR, POTC, Buzz Lightyear, but definitely NOT Winnie the Pooh. We wasted several precious morning EMH minutes on that in January when it broke down on us 3 times while we were on it!

We will then head over to the GF for a late breakfast at 1900PF. We have a 1030am ADR and I am looking forward to the omelette station.

Then, we again have NO PLANS for the rest of the day! Maybe we will check out a little bit of AK (that held no appeal for us when we visited in 3/10, but we might be willing to give it another try if FOTLK is still in production. Plus we could get some ribs there in the late afternoon.......

In any event, our plans will probably involve finding a nice location to watch Wishes on our last night there. Perhaps even the Dessert Party again.

3/1 is the day we leave and we have a 1030am flight back to Pittsburgh.

So to wrap up (as of noon on 10/28), this is the summary of our plans for the week.

2/24 - Arrive 11am at WL CL, No ADR's, Reserved AAA Preferred Fireworks Viewing at MK
2/25 - DHS Rope Drop, Signup for JTA, Dinner at Ohana 520, MSEP at MK
2/26 - Obiwans Birthday, Pirates League 11am, LTT 1pm, WCC 650pm
2/27 - Epcot - AAA Storytime, DTD TRex 130pm, Agent P's WS adventure?
2/28 - MK Rope Drop, 1900 PF 1030am, ?
3/1 - Fly home. :(

RunDisney and Lady Footlocker are running a sweepstakes through most of this month and the Grand Prize is one night in the Cinderella Castle Suite on the exact night of our arrival. So I am pretty handy at clicking to enter these things on the interwebs, so I thought what the heck?

I found out about it from The Dis, but can't find the posting on Facebook that lead me to it. I'll keep clicking until November 18, I think for more entries for the grand prize and some options of various instant prizes.

I should not be allowed onto the Disboards when I'm hungry.

I was on the Restaurants Board and read good reviews of Teppan Edo, told DH about it and he said "Book it. didn't we leave a night open when we're supposed to be in Epcot?"

So now I have added Teppan Edo.

I added back our Friday night stay and changed our flight home to Saturday at 11:15 am because Southwest finally showed a reasonable rate for that date.

Now we can go the Dance Party with DHS EMHs! Or not. I'll have to see what ADRs I want to move around now......

In keeping with the title of the Trip Report, I thought I would add a few pictures of ObiWan in various stages of being a Pirate, a Jedi and well, posing with a platypus. I'm mainly doing this to keep me entertained and keep me up to speed on how to post from photobucket....

This was during the Pirate Tutorial in January. He is wearing the green ensemble.

And here he is at our local Renaissance Festival in August acting (and looking) a little more like Captain Jack Sparrow. Oh, what 6 months of growing can do to a boy.

3 months and 2 weeks away! Getting close to double digits now.

Finally! Double Digits! 99 days until we get to go to our "home" and celebrate all that there is to celebrate about our son and about being at WDW!

party:

My parents took my brother and I to Florida twice a year while we were growing up in the 70's: Over the 4th of July and at Thanksgiving. Its when my Dad's plant was shut down and the best time for him to vacation.

We would always drive to Miami Beach where we stayed at the Fabulous Waikiki Motel, and about every other trip, my parents would take us to Disney World on the way there or back. They never told us before our trip that we were going, and of course, being kids, we would ask if we were going every time. It was always a great trip when the answer was yes!

I always think about Florida and Disney World at Thanksgiving time, even though those trips have been so long ago. I'm so glad to be able to share it with my child as he is growing up, like my parents did with me.

Love the Wilderness Lodge, didn't do CL, but it is a wonderful resort anyway. Enjoy your trip. We are going value this year (hope I am not disappointed) but by doing so I am able to bring DD, SIL, GS, GD with Hubby and I. So am sure we can and will do without wilderness. sniff sniff

Hi there! We loved Wilderness Lodge in January and were so grateful that my parents were willing to join us on that trip and were willing to stay on property after visiting WDW since 1971 without doing so! When they have usually gone, they have gone with my brother, his wife and son, his wife's mother, friends of my brother, so on and so forth, and it has just been more economical to rent a house.

They have gone to WDW many more times than me though, so I wanted to relive a childhood dream (through my DS) by staying on property on his second trip there in January. This trip I want to enjoy an adult dream of my own by staying Club Level. ;) As much as my parents would have enjoyed Club Level though, I would have felt too guilty if they had agreed to come on my terms again.

The WL is beautiful and I know we would be happy if we stayed anywhere in the resort, and for that matter, any resort in WDW! But for convenience sake, breakfast, coffee and an occasional adult beverage and snack and a more secure floor when traveling with just DH and DS, we are choosing CL this time. We are also allowing enough time this trip to explore some other resorts. My brother just had a great experience at CBR, which I would have shied away from because of its size. I'm also hearing good things about AoA, and have always heard good things about POP.

I'll be curious to hear how your trip goes........ and I'm off to check out your PTR now.
