Dopey Challenge training, Week 5

Hellooooo again! :wave: I know I said I was sticking to updating every 4 weeks or so, but this week's portion got kind of long, so I'm just gonna toss it in here rather than write a novel at the end of the month...

Week 5 (10/3 - aka MEAN GIRLS DAY!) - 21 miles
MO: 3 miles... "On October, 3rd, he asked me what day it was."
TU: 3 miles
WE: ST/yoga

A couple of notes from this week...my highest-mileage week of 2016!

First and foremost...the bag of the month for October is the Moonlight Carriage Ring Tote from Harveys! (And apparently today, October 10, is National Handbag Day...so that's a thing.)

Second...this week I changed up my weekly schedule so that I could get some Lumiere practice in, in the form of a back-to-back Friday/Saturday run. I lifted at home on Wednesday before work (sat in traffic as a result but at least I didn't have to encounter people in the weight room at work, sigh - people leave me alone in the cardio room, at least) and went to an evening yoga class that day (which was awesome). The back-to-back was not perfect, but I would say it went better than expected. I'm still not as fast as I was I wash, but I'm getting there! My back felt "tired" toward the end of both runs (not injured, just tired...if that makes sense) and I was pretty zonked out on Sunday, but my main takeaway was that I didn't feel too sore afterward, so it's a win. :thumbsup2 I don't think these back-to-back runs are vital *for me* from a physical standpoint, per say, but completing them gives me confidence and things to work on/keep in mind for the *actual* races, so they're beneficial in that regard.

So on that note: thing to work on/keep in mind that I learned from this weekend - and it's something I knew already and really the only thing I think I did a less-than-perfect job of during Dopey in 2015, so maybe I didn't *learn* it so much as it was reiterated - extra sleep during challenge weekends will be essential. ::yes:: I think getting less sleep than I needed in the days leading up to the 10-miler (see below) contributed to my "zonked" feeling on Sunday, and I don't want to be "zonked" at WDW! Another Sunday note: I skipped yoga today. For the past couple of weeks I've found my back has been pretty sore after Sunday yoga, so I decided I needed a week off. I guess it makes sense since it's right after my long run day AND lifting in the morning...maybe my back needs to get a little stronger to handle a more intense schedule. I'll try again next week and see how it goes.

Third...I met Larry! Apparently he's doing a tour around the good ol' C-L-E. :) Pretty cool! I wasn't going to stop for a picture, but Mr. A was like, "who knows if we'll ever get another championship!" so I stopped. Mr. A was right!

Fourth...OCTOBER BASEBALL! :hyper: I managed to score tickets to not one, but TWO play-off games for the ALDS, and they weren't even that expensive - so that's what we did on Thursday and Friday!

Thursday's game didn’t start until after 8PM and we made the mistake of parking in a garage close to the stadium - since we ended up on the 4th floor, it took FOREVER to get out! We were sitting in the car waiting to leave the garage for 40 minutes! :faint: I don't think we were in bed until 2AM...but what a great game!!!

(quick story: Mr. A texted me the other day and was like, "I'm going to grow a play-off beard for the Tribe. What do you think?" I said go for it, knowing he wouldn't be able to stand it. Beard was shaved by Saturday :teeth: So if the Indians lose, we all know why!)

Friday was rough...work on limited sleep and then back for game 2! This one started at 4:30 and was another great game. We were spent when it was done! TRIIIIIBE!

We decided to park in a surface lot today that was a little further away from the field. So we had a bit of a walk but once we got to the car, we were able to just zoom right out since we were a little further removed from the action and we didn't have to wait for floors below us to empty out like we had the previous day. Whew!

Fifth...Kimono is here! Actually, it's been a SUPERB week for me, INB-wise - 3 orders came in! :eek:

I wore Kimono for my 10-miler and the kit performed perfectly as expected - it's been washed and is set aside for Wine & Dine weekend. :)

Sixth: I'm now up to running 2:30 and walking 1:00. I originally was hoping to cut the walk break down to 30 seconds when I started this training plan back in September, but walking the entire minute is helpful on longer runs when my back gets tired (I have to say - I don't love that it gets "tired" like that. Sigh!). Pace is still coming down overall though! :banana:

Seventh (see? Lots of thoughts this week!): Remember how I said that Happily Ever Tees had sent me a XS in the Wishes top last week? Not only did they send a pre-paid postage label to me and the person whose shirt mine got mixed up with (I received my correctly-sized shirt on Saturday, yay!), they also offered to pull the next shirt I wanted to order and set it aside for me. This is pretty great since those shirts sell out in 2-3 minutes! Extra bonus: I actually want 2 shirts they are stocking tonight...they are putting BOTH shirts aside for me! So I would say they fixed the issue and then some! :yay:

So let's see...if I join the INBlovers facebook group (ok, I already did) and then make an "ISO" for that shirt...what size would you recommend I try to hunt down? I wear Larges in just about everything women sizes and Mediums in Unisex sized stuff. Might need enough arm room for some blue fairy wings :)
 

So jealous you get to go to playoff baseball! Looks like you had great seats too! My team (Giants)are trying their best to get eliminated - we are down 2-0 with game 3 tonight.

I'm very glad you are updating again! I am a total slacker so my journal probably won't get updated again, lol!
 
I love that Harvey's bag. I'm a sucker for October and Halloween and all things fall related. I got out all my Halloween fall decorations last weekend. Love it!

Cherry Blossom is so pretty. Looks great with the striped capris too.

The training sounds like it's going well and glad to hear you are getting back to some normal intervals for you. Speed will come back in time, I'm sure, but I bet you are doing great. W&D is getting close now!!

I'm thinking of trying some of the InB pants. I've never pull the trigger on them because I just wasn't sure, but so many people rave about how comfortable they are in place of jeans that I'm reconsidering. The website is out in my size of course, so hoping maybe they come out with a new pair soon and I'll try them.

Good advice on the back-to-back runs and extra sleep. I'm a bit worried about that for W&D weekend. It's such a short trip for me that I know I'll be tempted to burn the candle at both ends and I really want to be able to enjoy the party and F&W on Sunday. I'm hoping to be able to bank some extra sleep in the week leading up so that at least I start out well rested.

As much as I love a good schedule ... it kinda makes sense to post when you have something to say. Some months you'll probably only have enough for a short posts. Some months you'll need to divide it into multiple posts. I don't think anybody minds a few extra posts. :)

I feel like I'm the only person in the world who has never seen Nightmare Before Christmas (I don't do Tim Burton movies). But the bag is super cute!

I don't think these back-to-back runs are vital *for me* from a physical standpoint, per say, but completing them gives me confidence and things to work on/keep in mind for the *actual* races, so they're beneficial in that regard.

That's how I feel too - they're not necessarily physically necessary, but it's a good opportunity to see what you need to do to be prepared for the races.

(I'm actually rooting for the Indians ... because I'm a Yankees fan who has lived in the Boston area, so I really hate the Red Sox)

I remember last year when I was struggling a lot with my intervals, you told me that the 1 minute was what worked best for you, and shorter walk intervals really never worked for you. If 1 minute is what works for you, then stick with it. You can still find a way to get your pace down without cutting down the walk interval. Don't try to force yourself into something that just doesn't work for you.

I'm jealous of the Cavs and Indians photos. My sister's family is going to a couple ALCS games but I have to admire it all from afar.

I really like it! It's an updated version of a classic design they did a few years back, and I like this new version way better. :)

I would say stick to large...I stick with what I normally wear in regular shirts. There's a good chance extras of that shirt will show up on that website and/or at other retailers INKnBURN sells through, so you may not have to wait for the ISO list. :) I'll let you know if I see any!

Ahhhh, I know you are right about the speed. That's exactly what I would tell anyone else in my position. ::yes:: I guess it's easier to give the advice to others than it is to take it myself...

Yeah...it's so hard but I have found that sleep is really key. During Dopey in and Disneyland Half Weekend in 2015 I was doing challenges and both trips I had it happen where I just hit the wall and felt terrible. I was okay during the races but the tiredness really hit me when I was sitting down for meals. I don't want that to happen again!

Right now I'm thinking I will try to stay away after the 5K - no post-race nap. Hopefully that will set me up to get to bed a little earlier.

If you don't like Tim Burton's style, I could see how you would avoid it. It does get a little weird at parts but overall I think it's a sweet movie. And I like the music a lot!

We managed to get tickets for game 2! :yay: I don't know about you but I was pretty much having a heart attack yesterday (like that's going to lesson during the ALCS? I'm guessing not). Cody Allen was FREAKING ME OUT and Shaw always makes me incredibly nervous. I don't think I have been that tense in a long time! :faint:

I did but didn't have much luck. URC I think had a pair but 2 sizes up from what I usually wear in the capris and tights. Like you I had already thought I'd want to go a bit bigger, but worried if two sizes would be too much. Maybe I should give it a try though.
 
I had a big fat fail when trying to get my coffee shirt last night. I was at the park with kiddo and hubby, so easily could have ordered it but my phone was being annoying at it could not connect to the LTE. You can imagine my annoyance at that. So I was able to connect at about 8 minutes past but by then it was too late. I think 4x was all that was left. I'm not that upset about it since according to my ticker.. I have over 7 months before I have a specific place I want to wear it. I am following them on facebook and instragram now so I'll just make sure to be in my house for the next one.

The Cavs winning has relieved much of the anxiety I used to experience; there is no longer a "my teams will never win" lingering feeling of dread. I might be a little more rational about the possibility for both positive and negative things to happen to Cleveland teams.

Allen is very good, but he doesn't seem to realize that sometimes it's OK for the other team to put the ball in play. He goes to 3 balls on every hitter. Roller coaster ride every time.

I watched episode 6 yesterday. I've been pretty busy lately, and I'm trying not to fall behind on all of the actual broadcast TV shows that I watch, so ... I've been pretty good at watching an episode every other day, but I can't manage to get through it any faster than that.

So far ... I like it, but I don't know that I love it. I definitely like it more than I liked Jessica Jones (which isn't hard because I didn't like Jessica Jones). I like Luke, but I don't know if I love him. I think Cottonmouth is being built up (at least as far as I've gotten) as the Harlem version of Wilson Fisk, and he's just not as engaging of a character to me, so that bothers me a little. I'm really starting to hate Mariah Dillard more than I hate Cottonmouth.
The "origin story" episode was actually my least favorite so far - I just couldn't get into it. Other than that, I've liked every episode.
I do like that Claire Temple is on every single Marvel Netflix show. She's my favorite character.
 
I did but didn't have much luck. URC I think had a pair but 2 sizes up from what I usually wear in the capris and tights. Like you I had already thought I'd want to go a bit bigger, but worried if two sizes would be too much. Maybe I should give it a try though.
Hmm. :scratchin What is URC's return policy? At least you would get free shipping when they were SENT to you...it's really tough not having a nearby retailer to try things on!
I had a big fat fail when trying to get my coffee shirt last night. I was at the park with kiddo and hubby, so easily could have ordered it but my phone was being annoying at it could not connect to the LTE. You can imagine my annoyance at that. So I was able to connect at about 8 minutes past but by then it was too late. I think 4x was all that was left. I'm not that upset about it since according to my ticker.. I have over 7 months before I have a specific place I want to wear it. I am following them on facebook and instragram now so I'll just make sure to be in my house for the next one.
Bummer!! I'm sure she'll stock them again in the ext 7 months though. :thumbsup2 Those shirts go SO quickly...it's really insane!
The Cavs winning has relieved much of the anxiety I used to experience; there is no longer a "my teams will never win" lingering feeling of dread. I might be a little more rational about the possibility for both positive and negative things to happen to Cleveland teams.
That's SO true...but man, the Indians really broke my heart when they lost in '95 and '97 (when I was the ripe ol' age of 11 and 13, respectively). I'm so happy the Cavs won, but the Indians winning would be a whole other level......

I've never been too into the Browns, thankfully...that would be a whole other level of sadness. :rotfl:
Allen is very good, but he doesn't seem to realize that sometimes it's OK for the other team to put the ball in play. He goes to 3 balls on every hitter. Roller coaster ride every time.
Right?! :faint: Friggin full count on the last 3 batters or whatever. If he walked in the tying run I would have probably had to turn the game off for a bit...
I watched episode 6 yesterday. I've been pretty busy lately, and I'm trying not to fall behind on all of the actual broadcast TV shows that I watch, so ... I've been pretty good at watching an episode every other day, but I can't manage to get through it any faster than that.
Yeah, and they are LONG episodes - I think one we just watched was a solid hour! I've got things to do, Netflix!
So far ... I like it, but I don't know that I love it. I definitely like it more than I liked Jessica Jones (which isn't hard because I didn't like Jessica Jones). I like Luke, but I don't know if I love him. I think Cottonmouth is being built up (at least as far as I've gotten) as the Harlem version of Wilson Fisk, and he's just not as engaging of a character to me, so that bothers me a little. I'm really starting to hate Mariah Dillard more than I hate Cottonmouth.
So we've got 2-3 episodes left, and I have to say, it's losing me a little bit. :( Jessica Jones is my favorite and I'd say Daredevil and Luke Cage are at about the same level for me. I think I like JJ so much because Krysten Ritter's performance was just so awesome (and I really didn't like her much at all before this show) and I liked the whole "women kicking ---" vibe. Of course, it was still pretty disturbing overall, so like I said months ago when we were first talking about this...not sure what this says about me! :eek:
The "origin story" episode was actually my least favorite so far - I just couldn't get into it. Other than that, I've liked every episode.

I do like that Claire Temple is on every single Marvel Netflix show. She's my favorite character.

I am just a couple years older than you so those ones were really tough. I'm the same way as you with the Browns: when they left, they never really came back. Also, it wouldn't be sad; there's never been a rational reason for hope or expectation so there's no reason for sadness. Browns fans lack the ability to be rational though, so ...

The Cavs, Indians, and Buckeyes have always been pretty much equals for me when it comes to irrational fandom. The winning still feels just as fun, I just don't dread the losing as much anymore.
 
Did you see the new ISO skirt for Inb just now? It would look awesome with the cherry blossom shirt I just got. But I'm gonna try to be good and not go crazy this month with $$$. But gah...I understand now the addiction.

Seriously, INB??? I swore I would be good after buying the Christmas stuff but I have also wanted to try a skirt and I love that pattern for the tech shirt and with the shorts in the matching pattern....ARRRRRGH. Need to check my balance in my impulse buying account and see if I can pull that off.
