A Pink Pixie Princess - Complete!

Happy PI day!!! Great update and, wow! you are making great progress. Seriously so happy for you to be able to get back into running more comfortably and it seems like your pace is actually picking back up quickly. I know it's frustrating when you know where you were before, but I'm confident you'll be back at your old pace in no time at all.

I'm glad Dr. Spine is supportive and sounds like he is giving you really good advice about getting back in the groove. I'm jealous of your possibility for a standing desk. I really want one for myself, but my current furniture wouldn't accommodate it and not sure I can justify paying for it out of the budget. But, I do know all this sitting I do is bad for me! Comforting to know that your running is not the culprit either. I know I was talking to a friend recently about my knee pain (which IS caused from running) and she said, "Do you ever think about just quitting?" I was honestly shocked by the question. Cause, no, I've never thought about quitting. Sometimes non-runners just don't get it.

Sounds like the DL plans are going well too. YAY!! Although, what is your mom thinking??? One park and one day??? ;)

Wine and Dine. :( I know you and a lot of other people are really disappointed by the changes and I don't blame you one bit. Admittedly for Chris and I, the changes are actually ones we like, but I totally understand why it's a bummer for other people. I do hate that they changed the course and now you only run through 2 parks instead of 3. I didn't get to experience that last year with the shortened race, but it was one of the things that I thought was pretty awesome about the race. I'm hoping that maybe at least the course change is temporary and once all the construction is done they might revert back to the old course. And, I totally agree that the way they handled announcing the changes and the delays are just inexcusable. I mean, seriously, you know they had these plans in the works for a long time. How are you not ready by the time registration comes around? I feel so badly for people who really had their plans screwed up by this. I know you'll find a way to have a great time at the race, but I am sorry for your disappointment and I think it's completely understandable!!

Happy PI day!!!
Thank you!! And Happy Pi Day to you!

Ahhh me too! I know you are right that I'm making good progress...I'm probably expecting too much from myself right now! :o

Dr. Spine has been great...I am lucky that I found him! :thumbsup2

I am DEFINITELY lucky with the standing desk! I got an email back this morning about it, so the wheels are in motion!

Quitting running?! Noooooo! You're totally right, non-runners don't get it sometimes!
Sounds like the DL plans are going well too. YAY!! Although, what is your mom thinking??? One park and one day??? ;)
I don't know - how are we related?! I sort of get it - she wants to see other parts of Cali with the cross-country flight...but nooooo!! At least she's thinking about getting a park hopper...

Ha - with all of my whining about the changes, I totally forgot to mention it going from 3 parks to 2. I guess it's because of the construction, but yeah, that's a blow to the race, for sure. That was my favorite half at WDW and with the Osborne lights gone it wasn't going to be the same anyway...

I would hope that the change is temporary too - mostly I'm glad they didn't just change the course to be exactly like the WDW/Princess Half course (I like that one, but I liked the old W&D course better). And yeah, their disorganization with changing registration was just insane!

I need to go back and edit my post, because I forgot to mention one good thing - Will is going to do the 10K with me! :yay: So it'll definitely still be a fun weekend! Mostly I was just annoyed by runDisney changing things last-minute and the reaction of some of the DIS'ers afterward. :)

Smart idea on making ADRs even if people say you don't need them for Disneyland. From my experience at Star Wars - I saw people getting turned away or having to wait really long waits at certain sit downs (Steakhouse 55 or Naples)

Yeah, I like eating way too much to leave things to chance! When we were there for Disneyland Half weekend, I was SO glad we had ADRs - it saved us from a 2-hour wait at Naples, and other places weren't taking walk-ups at all. Granted it was Labor Day weekend, but still...

oh oops I thought I read 1 day ticket and room, that's what I get for reading too fast!

Shorts are hard to find that don't ride up for me too, I find it they aren't longer shorts I can't stand them anymore. Yay! for the the standup desk hopefully!

Hopefully you didn't take any of my wine & dine comments wrong, & if so I am sorry, I honestly didn't mean anything mean about saying people were overreacting on facebook (I was just surprised by all the comments on it). It is hard sometimes typing and loosing reality of people so again sorry as I know I posted something along that line.

Glad your husband is running the 10k with you! how fun!

Oh and I just read somewhere (you might have too by now) they called on Darkside deferrals and they will be coming out in 2-3 weeks. So deferrals around it sounds like.

Nope - it was a 1-day, 1-part ticket, so maybe that's what you read. :)

Yeah, and the inseam on these is still a tiny bit shorter than I'd like, but they did seem to work. I'm planning on trying a different pair of shorts again this week to see if lightning strikes twice.

I was not at all surprised by people being unhappy with the schedule changes - I just really did not expect the conversation to go the way that it did here on the boards. It's hard to tell tone when reading stuff on the internet, but some of it really rubbed me the wrong way. :) I'll get over it! And continue to use the ignore feature with certain people (not you, obviously, since we're chatting here). :)
Glad your husband is running the 10k with you! how fun!
Me too! He could have done the 5K but decided he wanted the extra challenge, so I hope he likes it!

UGH...I hope you're right. :(

Happy Pi Day!

I think I need to apologize, since I was one of the people who were unhappy with how people reacted (and I should probably do this on the Wine & Dine thread, but I'm really trying to stay away from the runDisney boards right now for a few reasons). While I'm not going to pretend that I'm not disappointed in the way some people reacted, it is none of my business and I shouldn't have said anything. So I'm sorry if what I said offended you (or anyone else). That was not my intention, and I am disappointed in myself for saying something that was hurtful to others.

:) I feel a little childish for posting what I did here but I think I needed to just vent and get it out...those couple of days were frustrating for everyone and I think a lot of us just reacted quickly (or like @cavepig said - what we're typing vs. reality)...and maybe without thinking about things from others' perspectives (myself included). I thought the thread was going to be deleted for an unrelated reason and was looking forward to a "fresh start" but obviously it's still there, so since I've said my piece here I'm ready to move on from it! :)

I think we all need a place where we can just write our immediate reactions, everyone knows not to be insulted by what anyone else is saying, and then we all forget it after the fact. Emotions were definitely high on that thread, and I feel like anything posted on Thursday that wasn't pure fact should just be ignored. I think we're all ready to move on (which isn't to say that people can't still have emotions about it, because I think people are still scrambling to figure out how this affects their travel plans).

But I'm glad that you'll be participating in the challenge! Lumiere is awesome, and I'm glad he got himself a medal! (Although if that medal is not shaped like Lumiere, I'm going to be a little disappointed)

Let me just say, I like to think I am friendly with you and @cavepig and I hate that you guys felt like you had to apologize to me, so I just chopped that section down! I probably just should've written it in a Google Doc, let it sit for a few hours and then not published it. So it's time to move on the happier things! :)

I love what you said about "anything posted on Thursday that wasn't pure fact should just be ignored." So true! ::yes:: I just need to do that!!

You're so right about the travel plans though! I am so glad that my resort reservation still works - and I know that I am lucky to get to go in the first place. :) But I really feel for people that booked flights and stuff like that (reinforces my thoughts to NOT book flights until registration is done!)...maybe it's a lesson that you really just never know what runDisney will do.
But I'm glad that you'll be participating in the challenge! Lumiere is awesome, and I'm glad he got himself a medal! (Although if that medal is not shaped like Lumiere, I'm going to be a little disappointed)
I'm super excited for Remy and Lumiere - as much as I'm sad to lose the night race, I'm more relieved that they kept the Food & Wine theme. I'd heard a theme change being thrown around as a possibility (which didn't REALLY make sense to me, since the race is during Food & Wine festival...:confused3 But you never know!), and that REALLY would have bummed me out. Because I love food and I love wine. :teeth:

I agree the Wine & Dine thread got a little crazy last Thursday. I see how people's feelings got hurt. I've been hurt by people on this board a few times but its also the internet and tone isn't always correctly stated. I was fine to adjust my plans to however they ended up changing. I would have been ok running a 10K at night (not the half though which is why Wine & Dine wasn't originally on my list) I understand why a lot of people were disappointed though. Disney handled it wrong as it should have been better announced, i.e. not two days after what was supposed to be AP/DVC registration, that was pushed out two weeks in less than 24 hours notice. I feel bad for people that may have already bought airfare though and are now going to end up having to fly the same day as running a half and missing the after party.

Happier things like Pi so yes Happy Pi Day - I totally ran 3.14 miles today for Pi Day!! I never make a point to stop my app at a certain time but as soon as she said 3 I got ready to stop it at 3.14!
I had already lifted by the time it occurred to me that I should have changed my schedule around to run 3.14 miles...oops!!
Pie for everyone!! Or Pi for everyone, but I really prefer the first kind.
I also prefer the first kind!!! :lovestruc

Yes, and I remember hearing somewhere that Mother's Day is the biggest eating out day of the year, so I'm sure the Disneyland locals will be around! MLK will be busy too with the school holiday...just better to be safe than sorry when it comes to food!

Yeah, I feel so silly for admitting it, but my feelings DID get hurt a little bit. I need to get over myself! :crazy2:

10K at night would have been pretty cool - I think that would have been a nice compromise. And in my case, it would have made it more likely for me to make it to an after-party immediately afterward since the two times I actually DID do Wine & Dine at night, I was wayyyy too tired to even make it to the World Showcase. :faint:

runDisney is really starting to bother me with their awful, awful communication lately. They're releasing race info later and later (Princess was bad, but with the way things are going for Dark Side, I'm thinking this is the new normal), they pushed back registration for two races, their phone people knew nothing...I feel like they need to hire a communications director or something! Or a PR consultant! :sad2: Of course I say this...but I still have many races on my calendar, soooo...:confused3

And now...my thoughts on the Wine & Dine changes.

- No surprise at all that they added the 10K/challenge...so whatever with that. I think I'm one of the few people here on the DIS or anywhere that doesn't necessarily think that every since race weekend needs a challenge, but whatever.
- Not super surprised that the half marathon was moved to a morning race. I'm definitely disappointed, though - I got to do a "proper" Wine & Dine once (in 2013), and even though I was fighting some foot pain, I thought the race experience was just awesome, and so unique. It was like a 13.1-mile party, so I'm going to miss that. It's not a deal-breaker, but I wish they hadn't moved it.
- I'm lucky that the shuffling around doesn't mess up the weekend as a whole for me - I feel for the people who were counting on the 5K being on Saturday, so they could do it with their kids and not have to pull them out of school...or those who can't take that Monday off from work, meaning they will have to miss the after-party.
- I can't say I love how similar every since runDisney race weekend is becoming - a 5K, 10K and half marathon, with a challenge thrown in. I get why they are doing it though.

This whole thing makes me sad. In early 2015, I thought I would try a solo trip down to FL to do Wine & Dine. A few things came up that conflicted with that schedule so I put it off. At first, I was disappointed to learn that I would be missing the last run through the Osborne Lights, but now the missed opportunity for a night race altogether is just a huge bummer. (In hindsight, the 2015 race was kind of a disaster so I wouldn't have gotten the full experience anyway, but still). This race still interests me, but it's moved to the bottom of the list. I first want to try to do the Star Wars C2C challenge and then the pink C2C, but we're talking 2017 & 2018 at the earliest for those and who knows what will change by then! With the way things are going now, I might even be done with running by then. :confused3

I'm sad about it, too. I was lucky enough to do Wine & Dine twice, but neither experience was ideal...2013 - stupidly ran on a bum foot...2014 - it monsooned. Despite the fact that I wasn't feeling my best for 2013, I did get to at least experience the atmosphere, but I was hoping to get 1 shot at it with (hopefully) no injuries and (hopefully) less-crappy weather. Third time's a charm and all that. But yeah, there's no way it would have been as good without the Osborne Lights, so I guess everyone knew they were going to have to change SOMETHING.

I'm hoping next year is my pink C2C year...Disney really gets us with those challenge medals, don't they?!

All caught up again! What I really enjoy are all the photos you post! Though some of them give my pocketbook strange ideas. I have been tempted in the past to get InB gear, too, and maybe someday I'll bite the bullet once I kick my SparkleSkirt addiction. But huge congratulations on your ambassador status and all the perks that go along with that!

How exciting, the Polynesian! DH and I haven't ever stayed there because we're not MK people really (we tend to spend most of our time at Epcot and DHS when we stay on property), but it's really lovely, and Tambu Lounge is one of my favorite lounges on property. It's always nice to stop in and relax with a cocktail before heading to MK in the afternoon/evening. Of course, now that Trader Sam's is there, we have TWO lounges to visit. Such a hardship. ;) We have friends who stay there religiously and usually club level, so we were able to hang out with them their last trip and had a ball. Enjoy every minute!

AND Tink 10K!!! What?! That's fantastic news! I'm so happy that you're feeling better enough to tackle more than the 5K. And the 15K is mostly park time anyway, so yay for that!

Finally as far as W&D goes, I feel I might need to apologize as well. My comments may have seemed short and flippant (of course, maybe no one even noticed since I'm not a "known" poster for most), but I chalk that up to typing from my phone and working for engineers (they like things super-concise). I also ran the last "good" W&D in 2013, enjoyed it immensely despite being a morning person and I still recall the overwhelming awesomeness of coming up on mile 9ish, turning the corner, hitting the Osborne Lights with CMs all welcoming us to the holidays. Such a wonderful moment. But after running that and then TOT in 2014, I decided that night races aren't for me, so I wasn't as upset as others at the changes (also, I love the Remy and Lumiere themes), but I totally understand why people are upset at the one remaining truly unique race weekend being changed so drastically and suddenly without any warning. It was handled terribly by rD, which seems to be becoming a trend, almost like they just know we'll all pony up several hundred dollars and fight with one another for merchandise (what was up with that, princesses?) for race weekends. I will say that while overall I'm excited at the prospect of running the challenge, I'm a little concerned that the 10K is just going to be a rehash of the WDW10K and Enchanted 10K, which seems a little lazy on their part to be honest.

Keep up the good work and sending more healing vibes your way.

Pi Day! One of my favorite holidays! I love making pie dinner and having the three second Pi song from Phineas and Ferb stuck in my head on repeat ALL day long!

I just went and read through the last few pages of the W&D forum since everyone is feeling so apologetic (because of course I only read the posts I was tagged in because I am interested in things having do directly with me most of all!) It was starting to get volitle and I was all image.jpeg
because I am not about Internet drama. I think you all are fine and quit worrying. Let's walk away from this dead horse.

Seriously, what are you thinking for the 10k?

Haha, thanks. I've never been that big into selfies but my one BFF is a pro at them at got me doing more of them over the last year or so, so I never know if it comes off as annoying or whatever... :teeth:

SparkleSkirts rambling: I THINK I have mostly kicked my SparkleSkirt addition. I know I have mentioned it elsewhere in this thread but I got burned by them a couple of times with sort of sub-par products/customer service (unacceptable for what we pay for those skirts), so I have pulled back on buying from them in a MAJOR way. (I know that people defend them by saying, "they're a small company located in the US!" but so is INKnBURN, and I haven't had similar problems with them yet...) I've sold most of the skirts I had...I was close to 30 at one point and now it's more like 12-13 (I have one up for sale that no one seems interested in - SSHQ is putting out SO many new skirts that it's been hard to sell lately!) - which is still a lot but nowhere near what I have seen others have (100+!!)...at least that's what I tell myself. :upsidedow With my INKnBURN addiction fully taking over (thanks for the congrats on the ambassadorship, by the way! :)) I'm finding that I'm wearing patterned SparkleSkirts less and less because it's hard to pair them with the INKnBURN shirts...I think I'm down to 2 by now (Waves and BirdsOfAFeather) and I REALLY like both of them, but I'm going to try to pay close attention to how much I actually wear them and possibly make the decision to sell at some point. I haven't regretted selling any skirts yet (because...they're just clothes!) but it's had to actually make the decision to sell. :confused3 Despite my saying that I think I've kicked my addiction, I AM thinking about getting a pink solid skirt at Tink in May (I think that's the only solid color skirt I'm missing) and I did just sign up for a denim-look group custom. I have an individual denim-look custom in the works (so I'd get a different style from what I signed up for in the group) but I emailed about that in January and there has been NO progress, which I'm pretty annoyed about. Again...not super impressed with the customer service.

TL;DR...trying to kick the SparkleSkirts addiction too!

Ooooh club level...nice. We got, like, the cheapest room we could possibly get renting points (so a standard-view studio)...still pricey but at least we'll be there! I was just talking with Mr. A yesterday and we decided that we too are not really MK people...I see us making our way to the TTC a lot and grabbing the monorail to Epcot on that trip (and spending a good chunk of time at Trader Sam's :teeth:). How did I forget about Tambu Lounge?! Man, the Poly has a lot going on!
AND Tink 10K!!! What?! That's fantastic news! I'm so happy that you're feeling better enough to tackle more than the 5K. And the 15K is mostly park time anyway, so yay for that!
Yes!! Assuming runDisney is still doing deferrals I'm heading conflicting information about that and am getting nervous that they're stopping them), getting the 10K bib is a great solution for me. You're so right about all of the park time! That's something I LOVED about the Disneyland 5K and 10K, so I'm really looking forward to that!

I'm definitely over it by now. I think a lot of us were just so frustrated over those couple of days! :) It's been a good lesson for me...I need to work on not being so sensitive (something that has been a lifelong process...I am a delicate little flower).
OMG yes - that was really the best part about Wine & Dine. I'm SO glad I got to have that experience twice (in 2014 it DID monsoon, but it happened to stop when I was in DHS...so I still got a proper Osborne experience! :wizard:). One of my favorite memories from 2013 was waiting in a character line before we reached DHS and seeing the lights through the trees...that was such a boost for me, and hearing those CMs saying, "Welcome to Christmas!" was THE highlight of that race, for sure.
That's something that is really bothering me as well - @Keels and I were discussing that around Princess time. It seems like they (runDisney) are resting on their laurels so far this year and releasing info CRAZY late...but they know they can do it, because we'll continue to sign up and give them all of our money.
I will say that while overall I'm excited at the prospect of running the challenge, I'm a little concerned that the 10K is just going to be a rehash of the WDW10K and Enchanted 10K, which seems a little lazy on their part to be honest.
I have the EXACT same concern - I love that course, but do we really need it exactly the same for 3 race weekends? WDW and Princess weekend are already so similar (exact same 5K, 10K and half marathon courses), so I'm hoping for something different for Wine & Dine weekend.
Keep up the good work and sending more healing vibes your way.
Thanks! Appreciate it. :)

INKnBURN obviously...with the ambassadorship I feel like I should wear one of their newer releases, but from what I know of the Tink movies (and I am taking my knowledge from how they did Pixie Hollow on the DCL ships, because you WILL NOT catch me watching a Tink movie) they are flowery and nature-y, which is the original route I was going to take back before I got injured and was planning on all 3 races...so maybe something like that?

This is INKnBURN's newest release...since 2016 is the Year of the Monkey. I'm wondering how many disapproving looks I'd get from pixies if I was wearing a Monkey shirt to the race! :p Those shorts though...:lovestruc
