A pillowcase question...not quite getting it

I really want to say this in a nice way, but I'm not sure how. Can someone explain to me why people drop off the pillowcases for the signing, when it pretty much takes away from the "magic" of having a character do it in front of you? I'm picturing staff in a back room, signing all these pillowcases. I do think its adorable (saw the pic of Verandah Man's), but don't quite get dropping it off for just about anyone to sign??

I thinks it more of the illusion of the magic to the kids (or the perosn getting the pillowcase)...Sure you know what the deal is on how the sigs get on them...but the kids don't....they see/vision an image of the chacters passing it around signing it, not the CM in the back room.

So if you have a little on with you, you could drop it off at the desk, pick it up later when it's done (this all done with out the kids knowing), and sneek it onto their pillow in their bed. So when they come back to the room after a fun filled day at the club or pool, they find a cute suprise waiting on their bed, best of all they'll get to take it home to remember not only the suprise but to remember the whole trip.

Oh, I get it! I get it! I love that idea. I wonder if my DS12 would like that?? I love surprises, so thats what everyone does with it, surprise their kids with it when they come back? I love it!!!! thank you!

We just returned from the 4/17 Magic cruise, and had a pillow case signed by the characters. I think we got about 25 signatures or so. It even had signatures on it from characters I don't remember seeing on the ship.

The kids didn't have any idea we were doing this and they were excited when I came back to the room on the last night and had the pillow case with all the signatures. We made it more special by having someone (a friend who's an artist) write their names, the ship name and sailing date across the top of the pillow case before we left.

I bought a Disney T-shirt on the ship 2 years ago and dropped it off to be signed for my son who was then 9. He is now 11 and still loves to wear it. It has been through many washings and still looks good.

Something to consider:
We were just on the 4/17/04 Magic and I dropped off my pillowcase for me (I'm 50!!) (so no "magic" was needed!!) on Sunday and it was not ready until Friday evening. So if you are planning it as a surprise, it would have to be a last night surprise.
From what I say, it may be hard for characters to sign in person. You would need something underneath it to make it firm enough to write on.

BTW, the cruise was wonderful!! The best thing DH and I have ever done!

Sorry 4nana...I didn't mean to burst your bubble.. Just try and keep that vision of all the characters going around the back room signing all the pillocases having a good ol time as the CM gaurd the door as not to let any of us in to see them in action

I can't wait to see the pillowcases 2tinksmom made for our girls once the characters sign them. She drew a picture of the Magic and wrote the girls' names on each one of them. Thanks Michele!!!
