A picture speaks a thousand words.......

Hi everyone!

I have been fortunate enough to be given a brand new DSLR from my wonderful DH as an early Christmas/Birthday present. He wanted to give it to me before we go away in October so I could get a good "feel" for it!

I used to work as a photographer many years ago, but like other things in life ) kids, jobs......you know what I mean! ) I sort of let it go without doing much upkep on the skillset!

So, I have been out with Chudley ( yes the camera has a name!!! ) and was wondering if I may show you all some of the pics I took.

I am really looking forward to our trip even more now ( and I didn't that was possible ).

I am hoping to get some amazing photos of the castle to add to my castle collection and one good enough to have a large canvas done.

I am pretty happy with the results so far................

The pictures are beautiful - good idea getting some practice in before you go!

I bought a new camera before our trip last year - although I used it a bit before we went, I was in no way comfortable with it - there was so much pressure with crowds, family, rushing and trying to take it all in with my real eyes - I wish I could go and take those shots again!

But you might do better than I with your previous experience -even though it may have been on film!

Do you mind me asking if Chudley is a Canon or a Nikon? (or neither!!!)

Battymum - Thanks so much for the comments! I do feel very lucky indeed and you will just have to go on another trip to give that camera a work out! And yes, my previous experience was a "film" 35mm with having to do all the work yourself and then waiting to see what you got!!! Not like now days though! I did however, use all the manual settings and it was just like old times

I will be out every weekend before we go and I have a list of things I want to practice.......wildlife, night time shots, moving shots etc.

Really can't wait to get to DL

Personally I'm not too big a fan of the composition of the last colour photo (the tree branches with the cloudy sky in the back ground) but the other photos are awesome!

I'm a member of www.photoforum.com.au which is a great Aussie community of pro and amatuer photographers, it's a great place to show your photos and get great ideas

As for Chudley, he is a Canon ( for all of the Harry Potter fans you will note the reference!!! )

I have the 60D model and 2 you beaut lenses. The pics I have posted are take with a 55-250mm lens. It even has full HD movie capability and can take shots at 5.3 frames per second! DD said I sounded like the paparazzi!!!!!!

..............I really am in heaven!!!!

My motto is "take enough and one of them will be passable"! I should set higher standards for myself I know! I find that when on holidays, especially at Disney, its sometimes better to switch to "auto" (sacrilege I know), take the snap and enjoy the moment. Don't tell anyone else though...they all still think I shoot in manual all the time!

What is the other lens you got?

Great pics, looks like you are off to a running start. Photography is such a fun pasttime and you will love playing with your camera in the lead up to your trip.

Shushh - don't tell anyone, but I often do this too. I'm all for living in the moment on holidays as well when it comes to my photos. Occasionally I'll get all fancy if it's something impressive eg. Grand Canyon, etc. but mostly I just snap away
