For the past few years, we've gone out to cut our Christmas tree at Kenny's Tree Plantation near Jordan, NY. Why we go here is a long story and I'll get to it later in this message.

Here's my merry band of intrepid tree searchers. From left to right, my DW, Merrie, my Mom, my Dad and DD Krystal. And, yes, it was as cold as it looks. The wind chill was in the single digits.

Down to business...Merrie looking over some Douglas firs.

After about 30 minutes of searching, the girls came up with...what? This one? You're kidding right? Look at that top!

Yep! The women insist this is THE one for us.

I mean, really, look at this top!

As usual they get their way. So, I settle in and do the manly chore of cutting down the tree.

However, the women carry out the tree while I helped my parents bring out theirs.

Okay, why do we come to Kenny's Tree Plantation? A few years ago we had a Christmas tree fall on us not just once but twice. I was complaining at work and a co-worker pointed out Kenny's. Kenny's sell a tree stand with a peg and the following process will further explain it's use.

First, the tree is shaken (not stirred :) ) to make sure we don't bring home any forest critters. It also gets out all the snow, loose needles and pine cones.

Next, a hole is drilled down the center of the tree's trunk where the peg will be inserted.

Lastly, the tree is wrapped in fish net twine for the ride home.

I'll post pics of this tree when we get it decorated later this week.

What a nice family tradition! We don't have many tree farms near-by, and they're not the nice Douglas or Nobles!

Thanks for sharing the pictures! I wish we could do it like that here.........

I'm jealous!!!!!!!!!!!! ;) TOday DH had to go by himself to get our tree, the rest of us are sick. :( He went to 3 places and couldn't find a tree, either too small or too big (9ft.) So he finally decided to go to Publix (grocery store) and bought it there! How's that for fun?  :p

What a great tradition. What nice memories!

The top of the tree has a little bit of a Dr. Suess vibe going on, but I have no idea how you would get a star or angel, or whatever your topper of choice is to stay up there.

Can't wait to see the fully decorated version.

Our artificial (due to highly allergic DS) is up and decorated, and looks nice...but we don't have to worry about critters.

How fun is that!! What a wonderful family tradition. What is Jordan near, I have never heard of it and I am from NY State.

Thank you, that was really nice! :)

Scott thank you for sharing this special family tradition with us.

Looking forward to seeing how this special tree looks when it all decorated.

Great photo's! Thanks for sharing. We went out Saturday too and cut our tree. I've got a couple of pics, but don't know how to post.:(

Thank you for sharing your quest to get what I personally see as a "real" tree. It sure beats the heck out of my 2-foot faker that's sitting atop my entertainment center. I'm tree-living vicariously through you!

That is great, Scott!!!!!! We did the real, cut-your-own a few years also, many years back, and had fun, laughs and good memories. Looking forward to the finished project.

I'm glad everyone has enjoyed our triumphant quest to get our Christmas tree.

tiggerlover, Jordan is a small town west of Syracuse off of Route 31. If you blinked going by you would probably miss it. :) However, it does have a great Fall Festival every September with good food, community events and a large craft show.

The tree decorating is being delayed until our family room rug is cleaned later this week. Sigh.

How fun! I love the way a Christmas tree makes your whole house smell so great! Thanks for sharing the pics!!! :)

What fun and a great tradition for your family. We have an artificial tree because of all our allergies - I always thought it would be fun to pick out and cut our own tree.

Thanks for sharing.:)

You are way up there, we are a lot lower in the state, probably why I never heard of it. I was only to Syracus once, my SIL went to Cortland College and we were up for a visit. I did make it to the Syracus mall and it was awesome.

Again great pictures. Happy holidays to you and yours.
